i dont really clearly see which are the yellow forming thing u mentioned but how long your tank have been setted up? it might be diatoms. otto and yamato would help you. they'll eat these soft-soft stuffs.
*
on the picture.u will noticed there's a few spots of white. the rest are yellowish

i think my tank is up for 1 and a half month now.

when did the first sign of this thing appeared that you started to notice? i assume this is just a normal diatoms. happens to new tanks most of the time. u'll get it cleared earlier with otto and yamato or u can jsut leave it just like that..... when the time coems, it will dissappear by itself. but you can always vacuum your gravels too. just use the hose when the time you do your WC.
*
i start noticing it i guess 2 weeks ago. hope u are right it will disappear soon enough. how about my question below?

see, 300.. that's a number already biggrin.gif
...let's see what you can have in 300.

Non-ADA Aquasoil = RM40
Rocks = RM100
Plants = RM30
Lighting = RM60
DIY CO2 = RM 10
HOB Filter = RM25
Saechem Excel = RM50
Small Fan (Optional) = RM35

= RM345 / RM315 (w/o fan).

tadaa... iwagumi~ hu hu hu!!!

minus the lighting and DIY CO2 = RM265 = pretty nice lowtech tank. woot~

p/s: this if i were you, otherp eople might have their own budgetting but sure something could come out.. biggrin.gif
*
light i already have. i believe its sufficient enough hmm.gif rocks also have, from my current aquarium. HOB filter also can save, already have as well. what's the fan for? any seller in LYN i can purchase all these stuffs in 1 go?

here's my current tank. lighting check, HOB filter check, stones check. tht fake barrel i think can use as well

QUOTE(sudosandwich @ Mar 23 2012, 12:44 AM)
can probably cut the budget on rocks. i got mine from nursery in bandar sri damansara super cheap. or just do simple layout with moss, can turn out very nice also.
*
rocks definitely out of the list. i already have some now

to save more budget, i guess, DIY 12DC Computer Fan + 12V AC-DC Adapter(less volt, means less rpm in fan)
instead, of going full plants, try moss only haha, no need speacial CO2 and ferts...
moss only tank looks good too if you know how to manipulate them

example of moss tank:

im looking forward to these actually. how to start? this is beginner friendly right? sweat.gif any maintenance after starting a planted aquarium? eg : water changing?

QUOTE(shinshishio @ Mar 23 2012, 10:16 AM)
always google translate them  laugh.gif  some nice info might be unavailable in english. not all aquarist like to share what they had found out. just like that yuzu and khaki juice-liquid fertilizer  nod.gif or maybe  we the one who did not ask them?  doh.gif
for non-ADA aqua soil, H.E.L.P 3L brand price = RM 35. also was made in japan  sweat.gif
rocks can be buy at nursery around kampung melayu nursey near kota damansara. more cheap i guess.
try buying only 2 type of plant for your first trying. once they grow bigger, cut any part you wish to theow them out and the one that you just cut off, tie them on driftwood, riccia stone, etc. hehe..  just concentrate on fertilizer@potassium for 'rootless' plant such as riccia  blush.gif seachem? i though can buy some liquid fertilizer starting from RM 39

ur light i think is 11w. you can only grow low light plants

if u wanna save on soil, grow plants that is attached to rocks/wood
*
so i need to get a new light as well hmm.gif how many w?

so in conclusion if i wanna start a moss tank. what do i need now? full list

water change? lol. .. 10-30% weekly, depends on ure biomass produce by ure fauna in the tank itself, more poo,
more water change, less poo, sometimes 1 month ok la hehe(but this also depends on ure tank size, heavily planted or not and good filtration system)
can ask all the sifus here to teach you more in real detail, they help me alot and inspire me  brows.gif , but turn my eyes green with envy  vmad.gif in the end
bro, if you are the adventurous type, you can mod/edit ure existing lighting set to suit for low-medium lighting.
mine is abit same like ures, 11w, almost same design but different lenght and different brand. but change to 18w with 6500K colour temperature.
watt calculation i use is 1gallon=3 watts, not sure if im right or wrong, still newbie like you
ignore the cheapo plastic tank and noob setup hehe~

I do believe that you are into shrimp as your tank are small...
I am starting a shrimp nano tank (12 x 12 x 14) as well (3 weeks have pass)... biggrin.gif
I am using 3L amazonia new soil min a  low light / low maintenance tank (9w)...

I forgot to put in the 5 element... blush.gif

I have as usual... nana... mini marselia (minuta)... corol moss...
as for co2 supplement...I am using seachem excel...
dosing seachem flourish and potassium...
I have 5 cherry and 5 crystal brown shrimp...

(out of the blue...I put in 10 tetra neon...now can not get them out... doh.gif )

sooo...farrrr.....soooo...gooood... tongue.gif

here are the break down...

ADA 3L amazonia new...38
internal dophin filter...22
3 nana plants (from my aro tank...assume 15 each)...45
2 pots mini marselia (from my aro tank...assume 15 each pots)...30
corol moss on rock (from my aro tank...assume 15each)...15
seachem excel 500ml...45

5 CBS...(10 each)...50
5 cherry (1.5 each)...7.5
10 neon tetra (1.5 each)...15

grand total...427.50
*
my tank is 15 " x 8 " . for now i only will keep my betta in. after my betta would be neon tetra or maybe shrimp

since your tank is small and you have betta only...
used seachen flourish excel...
cheaper compare to diy co2 system...
with diy co2 you need to buy/used a lot of thing to make it work...
a 2L cocacola bottle will last you like 3 month max...
but 500ml excel(rm45) will last you like 500 days (1ml/day)...

by the way... you only need to dose 5ml/50gal daily...

if your tank is...15"x8"x8"... likely to be 3.5gal...

if your tank is...15"x15"x8"... likely to be 7gal...
you do the math...
*
jz measured. its 15" x 8" x 9"

ok so i decided to skip diy CO2 part

these are the stuffs i plan to get now

dun buy amazonia normal... cause amazonia new 3L pack only max rm40.00... the difference only max RM5.00
3L pack can cover 12"x12" of 1" front and 2" back... you dun need white sand too... I got mine for only RM38.00

if low tech low light plants only need 1-2w/gal...

if high tech high light plants needs 3-5w/gal...

remember the more watt you have...the more heat you generate...

Added on March 26, 2012, 5:41 pmany 1 out there dun any experiment on lighting temp...

4000k vs 6000k...

as warmer light promote flower blooming...

cooler lighting promote growth...

most aquarium lighting are cool daylight (6000k)

I found out that algae like 4000k-ish lighting... they bloom

that's why algae only grows on the sunset side of rocks...
*
can list out some examples of low tech low light plants?

my tank size should be 4 gal right?
