actually, slower growth of roots can also be attributed to other symptoms. its not necessarily a bad omen. as long as all nutrients are met, the growth should still happen, only at slower rate. slower rate can be more managable at times. my amazon swords also started to slow down even though i've added the 5 elements. so i believe its the macro nutrients that is important anyway smile.gif

ok... todays discussion:
i have already set up my planted tank 1 1/2 half week ago but i did not include tourmaline BC in my tank. i included the other 4 elements which is bacter100, penac w, penac p and also clear super but did not add in tourmaline just for experiments sake. tourmaline is said to help growth of roots and now the experiment had been proved that my plants really did have slow growth rate.

question:
can i add in the tourmaline bc now into the water or does it have to be under the soil? XD
*
instead of putting tourmaline, why dont you try to push in the root tabs or liquid fert.
tourmaline is in powder type right? it could take some time for it to settle down and some of them may be sucked into filter..
just IMHO

how old is your soil? new?
tourmaline BC has to be inside the soil.
you can buy capsule from pharmacy and insert tourmaline into it.

root tabs is another way.push the root tab deep into soil, so plants will grow their roots into soil to get the nutrient.
liquid ferts doesnt help much in growing roots. liquid ferts are dissolved into water, and hence, plants do not need to grow roots into soil to get it.

from my experience which is not much,i think that it is ok just to put into the water. just switch off the filter for a moment and wait for the tourmaline to settle on the soil. at least, the plant got contact with the element. and make sure you put in the tourmaline after water change.so, that the tourmaline didn't washed away or diluted of a water change. correct me if im wrong.

Actually the discussion was killed before that itself...muehehe...

It is doable...downside is cost...

TEC model one, i guesstimate the cost to be ard 400 to 500, based on part price in internet stores...of course if one could source the part in malaysia, the cost would dramatically decreased...i guess...

N TEC makes heat as much as it lowers it...after it reach its optimum working capacity, ir dramatically become inefficient...

The poor mans/troll science chiller, i derive the idea based on 'red-neck ac unit'...it seems to work, so aquarium chiller should do too...of course one needs to actually DIY it 1st b4 knowing it...

Then I will face some problem sweat.gif I don't know what plants I want to setup with the new aquarium!

Did you mean that before setting up the aquarium I have to decide what plants already I want to use?

the one u poked is the evaporator unit... which is at the freezer part of a fridge...

i dun think a fridge's evaporator unit spans the whole body of a fridge, usually just at the top part/freezer part... body of fridge usually just insulating material... this is based on my observation tho... if need concrete fact, you need to find the servicing manual n read it thru... icon_rolleyes.gif
