Not the cheapest but looks to be quite robust with ferrite bead.

Unfortunately elsewhere in Malaysia prices aren't so great and HDMI-DVI isn't so common. sad.gif

Various issues of the magazine talks about various stuff.

Its all in English so you will need to learn English.
If you just want to tinker with stuff or electronics or programming... highly recommend reading the magpi magazine(free download) and go from there.

Dude, i think this is the power draw back from the hub to Pi.
It may cause damage in long term.
you may refer to this link http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=8926

Thanks for the heads up... I did some readings and found out my board is rev 3 and the resetable fuse (D14) had been removed so back power is "okay" and moving forward, all future revisions will work with backpower...

Of course, I'm powering my Pi using a 2A USB Power Supply, those charger that can charge my iPad, not an ordinary USB hubs..

Those posting on yr URL is for older board below revision 3...

CODE

$ cat /proc/cpuinfo
Hardware : BCM2708
Revision : 0003

Pls read this articles for the board revision history...
http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/1929

For those that lazy to read the whole article...
CODE

USB Output Power

The resetable fuses protecting the USB outputs have been removed. This feature was implemented on some later revision 1.0 PCBs by replacing the fuses with links; revision 2.0 permanently implements this modification. It is now possible to reliably power the RPI from a USB hub that back feeds power, but it is important that the chosen hub cannot supply more than 2.5A under fault conditions.

From my experience with E14, once you made the payment, someone will process the order locally and shipped out quite from SG quite fast if the stocks are in SG... in my case, I recv it within 2 days with avail stocks but the Pi case (without stocks in SG), it actually arrived one days later... so I was quite happy with their services..

The tracking number on the web ordering is not valid as it was their internal order number, just give them a call to get the tracking number you are really want to know...

E14 was free shipping for Oct & Nov without min orders...

Ordered mine Oct 31 and was told they will ship in about three weeks. That's next week.
Keeping my fingers crossed.
Also hoping my cables from eBay will arrive in time. smile.gif

I hope the Gdex delivery man doesn't make another of his silent deliveries.
A few times now he comes by, thinks there is no one home and quietly zooms off.
Not a sound from him, not a phone call...

I can confirm for malaysian orders, it will ship from lot 607 2nd floor back tower jln ss13/1k subang jaya. The instock status showed in *Singapore on all the item's information page may just be a computer thing.

If your page goes into processing, chances are that on Monday, we will see the website updated to reflect 3-4000 Pis being available. Get ur trigger finger ready people who have yet to order or want more.

Disclaimer: I dont work for element14 and what I say may be bs... haha.

Great !
This will make sense that the Pi will be ship out next week for my order as well.
When did you purchased the cable from eBay?
Recently i found that item purchased from HK or China takes very long to arrive in JB. Almost a month.
Previously was only about 2-3 weeks.

Gdex...HAHAHAHAHAHA
Not sure how's their service in my area, but of cause i do hope they are responsible enuff.

For those new users, be sure to get a 2A USB power supply & a USB hub, I found one pretty good one at All IT Mall for RM29 with 2 USB outlet, green hexagon line design in colour with 1, 2 or 4 USB outlets...

For USB hubs, you can use any type that can accept power input (usually very small input socket to USB ).. so all yr accessories like wifi, usb hdd, usb bluebooth can just draw power from the powered hub instead of the RPi...

I ordered the HDMI/DVI cable on Nov 4, the micro USB cable a few days later.
Previously it took under a week to get my orders from HK/China.
Last one took 3 weeks. It spent most of that 3 weeks at customs and Pos Malaysia (deduced from the various date stamps)

Are you familiar with XBMC? It runs on raspberry pi. So you can play media off your NAS, samba,...even from harddisk connected via usb2, usb hub.

If you have a lcd tv, hdmi cable connection will also enable CEC. Basically, you can use say ur Sony tv's remote and interact with ur raspberry pi. Selecting media to play, pause, next chapter, ...

TV supporting even AAC, 7.1sound or some dolby digital smorgasmic also can grab the output. If your tv/audio system dont support decoding some of the tougher audio file, then the load on raspberry pi will be higher.

Most likely if you want to play 1080p + 7.1ch AAC,DD surround sound, 200hz + subtitles+++ then you will have to overclock to get reasonable performance.
(if you dont mind little bits of problem, and it does take time for the developers to iron things out.)

Yup, I know XBMC but it's not my favorite as I prefer Smooth Video Project to play video at my PC. I'd say it's damn smooth. I did some googling just now and all my question answered. LoL...

Well, still thinking of geting R-Pi or just buy a media player with Android OS. Do you mean use Sony remote and interact with R-Pi? How is it? Shouldn't I control R-Pi and play the video on TV? blink.gif R-Pi is a mini pc right? So, need keyboard and mouse?

the tv works as the pi's video out source, connected by the hdmi cable. The hdmi cable, also works as the input* device from the TV.

cec enabled TV has their own remote, which can relay the signals of the tv's remote to the raspberry pi via the same hdmi connection.

google CEC if you want more details.

Never heard of Smooth Video Project.

What ever you try, Raspberry pi is only a 111rm proposition.

+ sd card and power adapter, or wifi adapter if you dont have ethernet line to the tv area.

It really smooth the video playback...

How to know if it's CEC enabled TV? So, that CEC enabled TV remote can be use to remote R-Pi? Am I correct?

And I think RM111+SD card+power adapter+wifi adapter will cost more than a media player but I'm sure R-Pi is a fun thing to mess with.

And ethernet line to the TV area? What is that for... Sorry asking too much. You have R-Pi yourself?

Is it this thing? Well, I do aim to buy myself a Panasonic Viera.

Go to wikipedia search for cec. Got a bunch of cec supporting companies. Including Sony...I know cause I have a Sony lcd tv that I am still using to remote control R-pi... as a media player and torrent download server

For sure it will cost more, if you want to do extra stuff. If you just need a tiny 8gb sd card.. then its cheap. If you splurge for 64gb card... if you use the built in ethernet port, and dont use wifi plugged into usb port... that is less money. I use the ethernet port, as I diy pulled a bunch of ethernet cables in the house to the modem/router.

Well, if you want to serve/stream media from a nas, or pc storing your media collection, you will either need a ethernet line or a wifi. I connect pi to tv, pi to my home network. Some media is located on Pi if it is still serving torrent seeds. But after that I move it to my PC and serve it to the pi via samba shares.

*basically the Pi makes a dumb tv into a smarter tv.

And if you like, you can do other stuff with the Pi.
