I found something "strange" about powering my RPi...

RPi is running Raspbian Wheezy Oct-28 version

My setup, I've a 2-port 2000mA USB power adapter that I power up a 4-port USB hub via mini-power socket...

The connection is USB Power Adapter to 4-port USB Hub power socket then mini-USB to the regular USB port on the RPi (without the micro-USB)..

The RPi seems to be running fine without needing any connection to the micro-USB connection...

I got the Asus USB-N10 Wireless adapter working when plugged into this 4-port hub..

This setup save me a micro-usb cable and much more simple power connection to the USB hub and RPi...

Dude, i think this is the power draw back from the hub to Pi.
It may cause damage in long term.
you may refer to this link http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=8926

Thanks for the heads up... I did some readings and found out my board is rev 3 and the resetable fuse (D14) had been removed so back power is "okay" and moving forward, all future revisions will work with backpower...

Of course, I'm powering my Pi using a 2A USB Power Supply, those charger that can charge my iPad, not an ordinary USB hubs..

Those posting on yr URL is for older board below revision 3...

CODE

$ cat /proc/cpuinfo
Hardware : BCM2708
Revision : 0003

Pls read this articles for the board revision history...
http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/1929

For those that lazy to read the whole article...
CODE

USB Output Power

The resetable fuses protecting the USB outputs have been removed. This feature was implemented on some later revision 1.0 PCBs by replacing the fuses with links; revision 2.0 permanently implements this modification. It is now possible to reliably power the RPI from a USB hub that back feeds power, but it is important that the chosen hub cannot supply more than 2.5A under fault conditions.

Thanks for your info.
Great to know that, they are improving.
My order in element14 is processing now...how long it will takes to ship from processing to shipped status? Anyone?

From my experience with E14, once you made the payment, someone will process the order locally and shipped out quite from SG quite fast if the stocks are in SG... in my case, I recv it within 2 days with avail stocks but the Pi case (without stocks in SG), it actually arrived one days later... so I was quite happy with their services..

The tracking number on the web ordering is not valid as it was their internal order number, just give them a call to get the tracking number you are really want to know...

E14 was free shipping for Oct & Nov without min orders...

Actually i ordered my Pi on 3rd Nov...previously the status showed Back order. And today i found out the status was changed to Processing, so i assume that they already got the stock and ready to ship for me.

Hopefully im able to get it by next week, its a long holiday for me next week that i can play with this new toy rclxms.gif

Ordered mine Oct 31 and was told they will ship in about three weeks. That's next week.
Keeping my fingers crossed.
Also hoping my cables from eBay will arrive in time. smile.gif

I hope the Gdex delivery man doesn't make another of his silent deliveries.
A few times now he comes by, thinks there is no one home and quietly zooms off.
Not a sound from him, not a phone call...

Great !
This will make sense that the Pi will be ship out next week for my order as well.
When did you purchased the cable from eBay?
Recently i found that item purchased from HK or China takes very long to arrive in JB. Almost a month.
Previously was only about 2-3 weeks.

Gdex...HAHAHAHAHAHA
Not sure how's their service in my area, but of cause i do hope they are responsible enuff.

I can confirm for malaysian orders, it will ship from lot 607 2nd floor back tower jln ss13/1k subang jaya. The instock status showed in *Singapore on all the item's information page may just be a computer thing.

If your page goes into processing, chances are that on Monday, we will see the website updated to reflect 3-4000 Pis being available. Get ur trigger finger ready people who have yet to order or want more.
Disclaimer: I dont work for element14 and what I say may be bs... haha.
*
No worries dude.
compare Element 14 with RS, Element 14 is much much more reliable. (I dont work for Element 14 too)

For those new users, be sure to get a 2A USB power supply & a USB hub, I found one pretty good one at All IT Mall for RM29 with 2 USB outlet, green hexagon line design in colour with 1, 2 or 4 USB outlets...

For USB hubs, you can use any type that can accept power input (usually very small input socket to USB ).. so all yr accessories like wifi, usb hdd, usb bluebooth can just draw power from the powered hub instead of the RPi...

But found something really weird.

PSU1 (1A) - Directly connected to Pi : Coloured Splash screen looping
PSU2 (2A) - Directly connected to Pi : Coloured Splash screen looping

PSU1 or PSU2 - Connected to Pi USB port without any power to the MicroUSB power port : Pi boot successfully

16GB Sandisk Cls 10 Ultra
Debian Wheezy - Ok
Debian Squeeze - Ok
Fedora Remix - Failed (SAD!!!!)

Anyone of you setup the Pi as email server?
I've tried citadel, but the smart host / relay host is not working.
Now trying Postfix + courier + squirrelmail, but having some IMAP error.

53C is with the heat sink installed or without? my Rpi just arrived today, can't wait to go back to my home town and start toying around with it.

sorry to ask, but how do you use the bigger heatsink (100mmx100mm) with the Rpi?
*
Temp running @ 53c to 54c with 14-15% 700Mhz CPU processing.
