donno why people are bugging about the brightness. make no difference to me.
When they make it dark people want bright, when it's bright people want darker then 0% doh.gif

Not sure if cuz of redphill or the sensor itself, but auto brightness always set the brightness abit too low, especially after taking picture then view, no idea why the brightness become 0 till need exit and change brightness agn doh.gif

QUOTE(quintesson @ Mar 3 2012, 08:51 PM)
guys

need some advices / infos on flashing my sgs2 non-G back to stock roms. got it 2nd hand pre-rooted with:-

villain rom 1.3.0,
android ver 2.3.3,
baseband i9100xxkf2,
kernel ver 2.6.35.7-i9100zskf4-cl280225

reason wanted to flash is the current android ver. batt drain very fast & sometimes got quite warm. so wanted to upgrade to the latest android ver. when i check from phone software update it show no update avail. is it due to the phone rooted, so cannot connect to samsung server for update?

after further reading then only i noticed the code (XX) for phone is actually a Europe version right? previous owner told me it's a ori SME warranty, so is it actually an AP or Ori set now?

i've checked samfirmware.com site & the latest android is only 2.3.3, is this the latest android i can go now for stock rom + kernel?

downloaded odin3 v1.83, do i use Odin or CWD (pre-install in the phone) to flash?

what's the best way & the rom + kernel to get for updating the phone?

sorry totally zero knowledge rooting hope you guys can enlighten me.

thanks
*
Ur xx now since villainrom is based of european firmware. You can always check ur warranty by sms/website. Latest firmware for GB sgs2 is LA4, google intratech xda i9100, click his thread, download the zip file, flash according to instructions on his thread

screen become dimmer after taking picture is so annoying. don't understand why is set that way. It was like that even when I was on stock ROM.

Well diff people diff taste. Which is good in a way if you use siyah as you can change the brightness to suite you. Just that all along it is not user friendly as you need to use scripts. But once the app it out it will be alot easier and hopefully people will stop complaining.

is the app different from the voltage control available now? was thinking of installing it but if it is different might as well wait for it.

i notice most of the discussion here are related to custom roms.

i'm on stock rom and never flash custom rom before.
lately tempted to try out some. but there are just too many to choose.

I thought cyanogenmod is the best and fastest rom.
with miui being second.

but following this thread for few days, you guys seem to talk alot about checkrom, villian, siyah etc. seems no mention on cyanogenmod n miui.

is it not as good as i heard?

i have a suggestion/request, why not users write a nice detail review about your favourite custom rom. list down the pro and cons about it. then TS can put them on first page.

i think this idea will benefit alot of users.:-)

Too many, I'm sure you could just go to their respective xda thread and read about each features that the roms/kernels provide

CM is mainly for those phones that are not super powerful in my opinion. Most people here use checkrom and turbkey. Siyah, redphill and neak are the most common kernels used here too

do you mean Villain rom already change my original baseband?
i've check the warranty thru sms & it's valid till July so is it a MY set? if yes, do i need/how to change the baseband back to original or now i'm stuck with an Europe baseband?

i've read intratech xda i9100 instructions

is this kernel that i need to download for flashing?

XXKF2

This package has: PDA:XXKF2| PHONE: XXKF2| CSC:XEUKD1.
XXKF2 Stock Kernel: Use the XXKF2 kernel above, it's the same kernel

the link from his thread is not working, can't download.

I have been using Neak Kernel 1.3.3x for a few days.

Just now I flashed to Siyah 2.6.13...but noticed that the screen is much dimmer and colour less contrast... cannot get used to it....cham leh.......so flashed to Neak kernel 1.4 again...

QUOTE(antt00 @ Mar 3 2012, 08:22 PM)
You can change kernel setting to increase brightness. For now you can use scripts or through the default.profile file. When the xan's app is ready you can change the brightness setting through the app.
*
It's not just brightness. Don't know exactly the term, but loosely speaking something along the lines of contrast/color saturation. NEAK's colors are more pleasing to the eye in a sense.

For some reason I have better touch sensitivity on Siyah. Plus waiting for the new app to come out plus it's a good kernel overall, so I'm gonna stick to it.

But yeah, abit not used to the colors

(No it's not brightness, I usually use low brightness on NEAK. Cranking up brightness to match the default lower setting does not solve it)

Dont download such an old version, just go download latest la4. You can safely flash it over ur VR. Theres nothing wrong using european baseband, it wont brick ur phone or anything. Almost everyone here using european baseband/modem

oh i see.
actually i'm satisfied with the stock rom. very fast and smooth for me
just kindda bored with it wana try something new.

i think i get what you mean about CM. i know its super light and can make older & weaker phones much smoother.
but s2 being so powerful already, CM wont make much difference to it?

but if CM (so called most famous and lightest) cant make it smoother or faster, then what benefit is any other custom rom? so confused. rclxub.gif

anyway, i'll go check out the checkrom and turbkey in xda now. wana know what so special about them. :-)

I use to be CM7 user when on my HD2. Only because its light (small size) and my phone have limited space. SGS2 is such a powerful device with so much space that I dun see a need to run CM7. Samsung base rom with touchwiz framework is more rich in feature. Main important apps like phone and camera is way way better on tw than those on CM7.

yup, i know, but in xda, the descriptions are in point form and very brief. a full review would be nicer. lol...
anyway, cant be greedy and ask for too much. i'll check out the xda threat. thanks:-)

Yeah siyah uses hardcore's mdnie settings that may not suite everyone. Touch sensitivity is something i like about siyah and redpill. Dunno neak got or not.

My gf I9100 non-G also have problems when flash custom ROM into it.
I'm not expert but I used to flash a lot of ROMs in my own GalaxyS2.
But these 2 days when I flash either CheckROMv4 or V6 into my gf S2, the phone keeps acting weirdly, sudden hang and freeze, market crash constantly, notification bar freeze etc etc.

I always wipe everything before flash, sometimes twice, I even format /system /data /sdcard /emmc separately.
Is there a problem when directly flash 2.3.6 ROM into 2.3.3 stock ROM?

Really headache, stick back to XWKF1 for her for now. doh.gif
