Once again...the G version is not that bad. We are getting development of custom kernels and roms these a days too.

If you would say 'get a non g or don't get a S2 at all' Its ridiculous. They are both still S2's and are loved by millions. I own a G version and I know how to use maximize it to the best. Just dont install cracked software and you will be fine.

Well I've got the G version and I can't wait to get rid of it once S3 is out and I've got enough dough to buy it. Why? Let me tell you why and bear with me its quite long whining. Spend almost 2K on a phone I can say its not wrong for the long whining.

Its all because of only one aspect of the phone but its a major aspect because I use it most of the time when using this phone. Music player. I never installed cracked apps as advised by most user here so the phone should be doing fine but no. Its never fine.

First, it freeze when I put it in my pocket after I played an mp3 player. Regardless whatever player I used. Stock player, winamp, poweramp. Its not normal freeze but you-can't-do-sh*t-unless-you-take-off-the-battery-freeze. It happen every time after the phone been up for quite some times. If restart, the same case won't happen again.

Then there's the skipping of the track problem. When the mp3 player been using for quite some times, the player will randomly skip some tracks. Sometimes the whole playlist. It started with minor skipping within the song then it goes haywire skipping all those track as it pleased. This also happen regardless whatever player I can throw to the phone. I try paused it and go back the track it skipped and played it again, still can play fine then after a while skipping will began again. Its annoying as sh*t.

That's all happen on a stock rom. Then I followed advice from fellow forumer to change to custom rom and flash different kernel and now I'm using superROM v2.0 with superatmos kernel 2.1 (using Lucifer for a while but battery draining double fast so change back to superatmos).

Okay, the freezing problem gone with the wind. But still there's a few freeze or minor hang when using other apps but those doesn't bug me much. But the skipping track problem still persist and it bugs me as a hound from hell. A few other nights when on the way back from work I felt like I want to threw this phone to pieces when the skipping problem still occurred even after I flashing rom and kernel if not for its 1.7K price. If it cost me 200 ringgit this phone would be already been in pieces somewhere at Kastam JB.

So, I thought maybe its microSD because I'm using 32GB class 4. So, I took the 16GB class 10 from my now useless Mi300 and tried it. Got off from work open player and played the files. For quite some time it was doing okay. I felt happy but only those happiness to be shattered into pieces as I almost reach my destination minor skipping within tracks occurred. Then the major super freaking annoying major skipping tracks began. It still happening on class 10 microSD but took a little longer. FYI, this problem never occurred when I'm using my CSL Mi300 and even the now super useless HTC Touch before. Other aspect of S2 works like charm and I love every other thing on the phone just the music player irritates me to the death.

My impression towards Samsung phone degrading. Might even considered now about that S3. Sigh~

CM is mainly for those phones that are not super powerful in my opinion. Most people here use checkrom and turbkey. Siyah, redphill and neak are the most common kernels used here too

Too many, I'm sure you could just go to their respective xda thread and read about each features that the roms/kernels provide

I use to be CM7 user when on my HD2. Only because its light (small size) and my phone have limited space. SGS2 is such a powerful device with so much space that I dun see a need to run CM7. Samsung base rom with touchwiz framework is more rich in feature. Main important apps like phone and camera is way way better on tw than those on CM7.

Hi peeps! I'm having trouble with my S2's dialpad.. sometimes when I click on 'Phone' the 'Keypad' tab doesn't appear and instead 'Logs' is shown I usually need to restart my phone in order to get the dialpad to reappear.

Is anyone else experiencing the same thing? Any solutions please? Thanks ya!

Quick question, but I was wondering is good for the health of the S2 if I keep on charging but pull out the charger before it reaches 100%??

Tried playing Asphalt 6 after so many months, lagged like a slideshow even with my tweaks. Then tried changing pairs of governers and schedulers and still did not help at all.

Switched over to NEAK and it ran super smooth. Not to mention everything else is smoother.

Root with cf root method, first page got guide to root with that

Shud be no problem, since cf root method is just flashing a rooted kernel. Follow instructions on first page

Try Resurrection Remix ICS. Been using it for the last couple of weeks. Stable and smooth.
For the contacts, I sync-ed it with my google account, once you set up your phone again (after the full wipe), just sync the contacts again.

Zero shutter lag is hardware specific, so s2 wont have that on ICS

Does the phone really auto focus all the time? I see vids of it, it never seems to properly focus then straight take. Im not expert in camera-nology, but the reason s2 has shutter lag is not cuz of focus, but time taken to process all the pixels or sumting like that

What u can look forward to in ICS is more hardware optimizations,software optimizations and a better UI(u can always install nova launcher for ICS look)

To further add in this argument of ICS vs GB I think I can give you a better assessment having used the G Nexus and now ICS leak rom on my G Note
The major difference is in UI smoothness and overall a slightly improved performance
The UI changes are just " showy" stuffs only
And face unlock as I said before is only a gimmick - not practical
One positive point is ability to resize widgets and ease of folders creations on homescreen
