The thing takes some time to load, compared to normal, as in Opera in my E6 is faster to load the livescore. Can jalan, tak kisah lah, hehe

Edit : Now I remember that firefox memang all the while load slower than the other browsers

I suppose this N9 also uses Nokia Suite to do sync/backup/restore with computer?

And can you use Window Explorer to transfer files between phone and computer? In other word, Window Explorer can show N9 as just another HDD?

Battery performance is better than most Android phones. It should last you at least one day with heavy use. For me I charge every 2 days with moderate use.

It will be great for your mom because the Swipe os is very simple to use and not much can go wrong.
*
DEFINITELY TRUE; I on was connected to data whole day and it still can last. Amazing!

thanks for replying.id never ask her about that question.but she never use the touchscreen hp.is it the touchscreen is really that hard to use?coz im also use the old nokia model with the keypad.juz wanna give it as a present to her for her birthday(fyi, she is in late 40's and works as a lecturer)
*
If your mom is not computer literate or uses the computer often and not really expose or rely on internet, it's better not to get Windows Phone.
Since you say your mom is first time using touchscreen, I would assume she is using older phones, so I would also assume she may not know many other things; Thus, Windows Phone is highly NOT recommended unless you willing to guide her all the way and setup everything for her, BUT she will still face problem:
1. Take a photo with colleague, colleague says: send the photo to my phone.
HABIS --> GONE --> can't send over bluetooth
OK, connect to PC --> HABIS --> GONE --> Must install ZUNE first and ZUNE requires Windows XP SP3 or newer Windows version.
Want to install Zune? Make sure got internet connection "lah"
So... what if she's outside having dinner with relatives, use her phone take photo? Later cannot send to anyone. How stupid is that?
I can't believe this is what Microsoft did. I mean,... meh? Microsoft? That's so NOT Microsoft.

In short, Windows Phone requires:
1. To have and use the computer. Sending pictures, videos, music all must go through the computer and it must be running Windows XP SP3 or newer; So no old PC/Notebook allowed.
2. Any videos/music must go through zune which will then be converted "accordingly"; So if big video file, and slow computer, not sure how long "lah", never try. I just don't like this convert convert thingy.
3. MUST have Windows Live ID.
4. May need data or WIFI, if not, pretty useless.
5. May need to get familiar with Market Place (this also means need to have data or WIFI).
6. Uses social networking like FB, Twitter, etc. If not, there's nothing much special anymore except the smoothness? Which can also get from iPhone. iPhone can show off more.

I would personally say, Windows Phone is not so suitable for those people unfamiliar with all those. iPhone might be a better. For people who uses Social Networking a lot, then Windows Phone may appeal more as they will appreciate the People Hub. (BUT for some people who uses FB, they are not exactly interested in it).

And oh,... Windows Phone tarak BACKUP feature.

ADD ON:
I forgot to mentioned; Many senior long time loyal Nokia users (usually older generation who don't use the internet or really use the PC), bought the Windows Phone, got very frustrated with the restrictions and limitations of Windows Phone; Like I said above example, just want to send a PHOTO also cannot. They don't use computer, they don't use what-stupid-cloud-sky-drive, etc. Somehow MS have dumbed down here thinking everyone is the same? That's again, so NOT Microsoft. As a software company (especially so much experience), they should have know or foresee many things; It's the basics when designing a software...).
And even for those who have computer or uses the internet, you can see how much their frustration with the limitation and restrictions from their complains in Nokia Malaysia Facebook. Switching from Symbian, there's too much changes to bear.

To be honest, MANY of the loyal Nokia users/supports are those older generations (not necessary very old, but those that trust Nokia as a brand, etc); Most of them may not really use the computer or internet and they're so far FINE with Symbian and can live with the bugs/lagginess. BUT, they will not be happy with Windows Phone.
If Nokia goes full force with Windows Phone, how will Nokia maintain these loyal users. There're in fact A LOT of them. I have highlight this issue to Nokia as well, and if Nokia loses these loyal users as well, it will definitely be a major impact. Imagine these customer spreading their words of how they hated their NEW Nokia device?
Despite the smoothness and reliability, how can these users stand the limitations and restrictions? Simple things such as, sending a Photo, or Music or Videos over bluetooth which is commonly done by many.

OK, aspire2006, you've made your point but I want to read what Andy says about which smartphone is better for moms - N9 or Lumia. Btw, has any seen Andy? He hasn't logged in for 2 days, I hope nothing happened to him. unsure.gif
*
Weekends usually I'm not active; hehe.
Between N9 or Lumia? N9 definitely! Unless Moms wants to use WhatsApp? Or it's modern moms which wants are into apps/games, etc.
Smoothness N9 have it, social network integration N9 have it (and I would say "still" BETTER especially with PR1.2, just so great).
The flexibility for sending files, uploading to FB Albums! (Imagine moms showing off to the aunties aunties, your smartphone can upload to ALBUM or not? I no need go to computer to create album and do this or that), a better Contact/Phone book, easy to access for Internet Connection, Bluetooth (just tap the top to bring down the menu), once connected, auto ONLINE for Facebook Chat, Skype and other IMs. Easy to chat with other friends in FB or Skype. What else? Windows Phone can't do all those, and those that it can, it's not so easy.

QUOTE(KennyKB @ Mar 3 2012, 07:07 PM)
Nokia 808 thread? He must be thinking another phone.

Anyway, for those who experience inability to get updates after PR1.2 (indicator never stop turning) the problem has been traced to Filemanager - the one which was dropped from ovi store. Uninstall filemanager to cure it.

https://harmattan-bugs.nokia.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1044

That thread very active as you know, it's the current hot topic, and it captured many attention at the same time, many people who are not happy; Many people don't understand the technology or what it is and jump to conclusions, even our LYN FrontPage did the same.
Imagine before understanding and finding out, they use own assumption and write an article making their own claims, confusing other people and making things worst as they thought it was right and go and debate with others.
GSMArena did a very well job by stepping forward and talk to the man himself, Damian Dining, which explains a lot of things very clearly.

Very true. WP7 is NOT an upgrade path for Symbian users who are used to multiple homescreens, widgets, themes, 3rd party apps, java apps, mass storage mode, bluetooth file transfer, etc. There are so many things you can customize in Symbian including changing the UI but in WP7 you can customize almost nothing. Symbian is losing market share but their users are not going to WP7, they are going to Android and even Bada which is a better match to the os they are leaving. If Nokia had made Android phones they could have leveraged on their brand name in developing countries to attract their huge installed base of Symbian users. Android phones can also be made in every price bracket for price sensitive developing countries but WP7 mandate expensive hardware. The Lumia 610 is still not cheap enough and basically runs a version of WP7 with artificial restrictions which users hate. In summary a bad decision to go with WP7 instead of Android.

Added on March 7, 2012, 10:53 amHere's some news - the 41MP PureView camera will not make it to Lumia until at least mid-2013. LOL! Can Nokia survive until mid-2013? I seriously doubt it with their Lumia only strategy.

Yes, definitely nono to replace completely. Nokia really need to think this through and consider or they might loose majority of their customers. Smoothness and Reliability is not the only thing people care about although it's important and nice; but with all the limitations and restrictions, it's unbearable, and sounds unreasonable.

They could've been more successful with MeeGo, no necessarily go for Android, but they can still adopt Android (though, Android will need high specs, especially RAM to run smoothly). I suppose they don't want to spend too much effort in customizing it, but is it a must to customize Android for different manufacturer? Or maybe they can just do a simple one.
Anyway, I still think MeeGo is a far better choice, but just too bad they abandon again their baby. Even having Android as the primary device (got qwerty), I still use back my N9 when I need to make fast calls, Android is just too slow to respond), with N9, it's smooth and easily access to phone or contacts; Even camera, sometimes I just leave the camera open in multi-tasking window, I can access it easily and fast anytime (sometimes I set it in landscape mode, thus no need to auto-focus also). Plus, the double-tap to activate is really nice feature. I keep double tap with the Lumia 800... ended up have to press the button. This feature very useful when you place your phone on the phone holder, just double tap. With Lumia 800, I need to press the button on the side which is blocked by the phone holder.

No idea, don't have this problem.
But with N9, you can connect manually by editing the connection, set your own IP and DNS server.
Check your PC IP Address, Subnet Mask and Gateway, just follow it except the IP Address, the last digit can put any number between 2-254 (I think), as long not the same as your current PC or any other device using.
Example:192.168.1.X
Where X is any number between 2-254 (as long not the same as your current PC or any other device using. )
The DNS servers, you can set it to auto, or if you're using Streamyx or UniFi, set to:
202.188.0.133
202.188.1.5
If not, you can find out the DNS for your service provider.
