QUOTE(Aloong @ Feb 3 2012, 06:11 PM) Not sure I shd discuss this here or in Investment thread. If you're residing in Singaporea but not rich enough to have your wealth managed by a professional, your NUMBER 1 investment is property by a country mile. Anything else is not worth mentioning. Might as well simply buy SGX ETFs and accumulate. Whatever else available to you to invest in (ie. retail stuff) won't stray far from that in terms of risk and return. For those of you earning in SGD, can share what is your investment portfolio likes to grow your savings "safely"? Any advise on "safe" investment, like FDs, bonds, unit trust, blue chips equity, etc etc? Lets not talk about transfering to Msia for investment, as I beliv we've discuss that before, and it boils down to how certain you are on the excahnge rate movement and where u gonna use ur money eventually. I'm discussing about invest / building What I know is, blue chip stocks are pretty okay, provided you choose the safe ones and go in at the reasonable price. i guess 4% dividend yield is pretty decent in SG. But lets not put all eggs in one basket, cos it would look more coloful with diff types basket? no? Im not sure about FD rates, but i heard it's less than 1%, probably 0.5%? Anyone knows? Hows the unit trust market here or the bond market? Lets not discuss about property as well, as that's a big item, unless ur talking about REITs. Any recomendation? If you guys feel this discussion is too wide to be put here, I can creat a new thread for Working in SIngapore: Investments Options, under the Investment thread. QUOTE(b0r1nG @ Feb 3 2012, 09:00 PM) for those with POSB/DBS, what if you savings is under S$1000? So far they are charging me $2 per mth cuz my account left $10 inside. If your savings below 500, they will charge $2 per month. Who told you they charge $2 per day? They will charge it S$2 daily basis? Does that mean they will charge S$60 per month if your account is below S$1000? |

Hi, quick question i'm dropping in here on my gfs behalf. She's working right now in HR in KL getting around RM2.4k/month as a HR exec for around 1.5 years. Recently she went for an interview with a company in SG for a similar position & they are offering SG$1.9k salary. Is this the average range of salary for her position in SG? Would you guys think its a worthwhile move for her?

At today economic climate, you can easily burnt your pocket regardless what you are going to investing in. If you follow on financial news closely, you should know better what and when to invest, rather than getting opinions from a general forum. Perhaps you should compare the actual net earning after deducted all her cost and expense. Beside monetary consideration, there are many other more important consideration like lifestyle change, family, BF relationship, etc.. that could be affected as well. This post has been edited by wi1s0n: Feb 3 2012, 09:48 PM |

Even assuming the expenses are correct, he actually has more than 3.5K left in SG because he has this big landed house in MY which he can rent out and offset against his rental in SG. Also, if include taxation - the impact in MY will be much greater than SG. This post has been edited by seantang: Feb 4 2012, 01:26 AM |

Based on UBS' Prices & Earnings report, on average, you get paid 1.978 times more in Singapore than in Malaysia, so factoring in FX rates, anything above a 0.82 sgd : 1.00 myr ratio is considered "above average." |

Guys, i got one question to ask.
There are 2 type of form when applying PR right? One is through working permit. The other one is through wife sponsor (my wife is PR). Bout the second choice, i heard that if ur wife sponsor u as a PR, u need to go for national service? If tat is the case, why not i go for option 1? |

btw, I just ask opinion. from myself it's no brainer la, i will choose sg over my. Btw, have a gf studying medicine in unrecognize university by the Singapore Medical Council, do you think she be able to work in Sg? In 2 yrs she will finish her medicine degree. I hope I can settle with her in Sg and she can work at sg too. No point to continue the r/s if we each other at our ego and kill our careers. source: http://www.doctor-jobs-in-singapore.info/ Holds at least a relevant Bachelor degree awarded by a university recognised by the Singapore Medical Council (please refer to the List of Registrable Basic Medical Qualifications and the List of Registrable Postgraduate Medical Qualifications {this is in the process of being updated}, which are recognised by the Medical Council currently) http://www.healthprofessionals.gov.sg/cont...lifications.pdf |
