Hey sifus over here,

Needing a little help on rooting my brother's phone on stock DXJV9. The idea is to get lagfix and voodoo sound running on the phone with an ICS custom ROM. Problem is, there seems to be a wealth of differing links on how to root this, and it's rather confusing as opposed to my phone (Desire) just needing unrevoked + alpharev for rooting and repartitioning.

I've came across this XDA link but it doesn't seem to be of much use. I tried flashing the DXJV9 bootloader as per the instructions there, nothing seems to change other than factory reset. The DXJV9 kernel flash for rooting link further down the article is also dead.

Is there another article I can refer to here with working links, and/or am I doing something wrong?

If you're going to run some other firmware other than stock.
If they are running on ext4 or yaffs2 there is no need for lagfix.

As for voodoo sound, u need a kernel that has voodoo enabled.

i have a quick noob question here, how do i fix the lag by just a few clicks?

will probably flash my phone to other roms some time next month but for now i just want it to be slightly smoother, the lag can be super annoying at times!

To root, you need to use ODIN and flash something like CF root with CWM recovery

Once you have CF root with CMW recovery, u can then flash other firmwares using recovery.

There's no DXJV9 version on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108, what I read is it potentially can still be used but without CWM, else I would have used that already. Any other alternatives that allow me to use CWM?

Just use the JV1 version. Doesn't really matter that much.

Added on January 31, 2012, 10:05 pmOr, go find speedmod kernel for SGS and flash that using ODIN.
