shoot raw, increase exposure, increase white, darken black, desaturate green by a bit to emphasize the flower

put 10-20 vibrance, contrast and a bit of clarity, use adjustment brush in lightroom to brush the yellow part of the flower to bring out the yellow with vibrance

darken the shadow to bring out the edge

that is all in lightroom, in real life, take a brush and paint it

Yup, I do shoot for concerts/showcases. I have been exposed to concerts for about 2 years under the wings of Kaggregate Media and some from my personal blog. =)

This year gonna have more audiences than last year as the big heat, Girls' Generation will be there tomorrow.

notice your flashgun output is alittle to over powering.

play with your WB, use different K values till you get a good colour balance out of the flower.
you may want to adjust and play with the D-lighting to emphasize certain parts with/without shadows

for closeup/macro , you shouldn't be using a powerful flash, if you have to, you'll need to manually dial in the output to get a good fill-in balance.

head over to PM website and see how macro photography is done

Quite a newbie in macro shots too.
Below are my recent shots with tamron sp 90 + raynox dcr-250. biggrin.gif
I used a flash but at either very low power or put it away from the subject. Just want to get some fill light.

good effort.
suggest, you try to take the pix with and without the raynox as the tammy is already quite good.
i feel the raynox although good in getting a greater magnification, but you lose both light and DOF.
for macro, you definitely can't use a normal flashlight, as you can see in your pix, certain parts are to dark, certain parts too much light, even at the lowest output, its still not quite right.

thing about macro is that you'll need to practise alot and look at your result and see if you can get better exposure, composition, there is no wrong or right, just different ways/angles of looking at it

well as expected, the D800 pixel density is raping af-d lenses...even the 85mm 1.4d gets raped by the D800.
its even more so than what the D7000 did with certain lenses.

hmm, i plan to do the following:

50mm 1.8g,

85mm 1.8g

105mm 2.8 VR

How will these lens vs D800?

those obviously not AF-D lenses...so i dont see any issues.
and u already have those lenses?
why not ditch 50mm / 85mm and 105mm and straight away get 85mm 1.4G?

I was there last week looking for the 85 1.8G. Not really cheaper than here. Maybe I do not have enough time to search around. Better bench mark the price here first.

Now with 16-35 and 105, 105 for macro, so it serve me well.

Sold my 50mm like 6 months ago, serve me well last time,

Maybe what u mentioned is true, just get 85 1.4 and viola.

Pretty worried that cant get D800 in time for next field trip mid April 12, asked the shop that i frequent and ask to check back next week. They dont accept deposit. zzz. Gonna do the Apple thing and queue at their door
