QUOTE(ojtee @ Jan 27 2012, 04:51 PM) What's the recomended FL for portrait, group photos for DX cameras? from ur sig u have a 16-85, that is good enough for group photos.I'm undecided between 85mm f1.8D and 50mm f1.4G I would basically be taking pix from about 10 feet/3m or so any advise? else its not really that hard for u to drag out that lens and set it to the respective 50mm and 85mm lengths and see how it works right... plus when u say 3m away for portrait is only half the info. half? 3/4 length? headshot? again, dragging out ur 16-85 and setting it to see which one works better for u... QUOTE(ojtee @ Jan 27 2012, 07:23 PM) ah yes, i did test it out past few days, only thing is that i can only get half maybe 1/4 shot, i may need to do group of maybe 5-6 people, and with the 105mm, i would need to stand 30m away ....haha! 5-6 ppl with 50mm, and from 3m away...they're going to have to really squeeze tight.would need it by mid march, so i wouldnt wannna get the 85 1.8g as yet, as i don't really know how it performs Added on January 27, 2012, 7:32 pm i did look at the 16-85mm, in fact i was trying it out due CNY gathering and mostly took pics of the kids, 85mm end was fine. I really like the versatility and the IQ of the lens, but may not be that useful..... thing is the function will be at 7pm onwards, so low light capability is the one i would be looking for, (50mm)85mm f/1.8 vs (50mm)85mm f/5.6...hmmmm, i think you know what i mean groups shots maybe 5-6 people, mostly i may wanna get full length with occasional headshots and 3/4 length just use ur 16-85 with flash for those group shots better. for headshots, actual 85mm lens still better...even tho u have to stand further back with DX. doesnt matter if 50mm is roughly a 75mm field of view blah blah blah, the lens distortion is still of a 50mm. for the rest, i guess either ur 35mm or 16-85 will do fine. |

QUOTE(NecroPhilia @ Jan 28 2012, 11:41 PM) Thanks for the suggestion, will try look on it 70-300VR focuses much faster cos it uses ring-type AF-S similar to other high end lenses.the new one how much? Anyway,is it difference much compare to 55-300VR? 55-300 and below etc uses very basic AF-S, slower focus. |

QUOTE(tctham @ Jan 29 2012, 11:34 PM) actually i was just telling her what settings to use when taking a landscape at night.. so i didn't really choose a good subject.. for a moment, i just felt the scene looked quite nice with the lights.. so i just fired away.. i admit i was careless and didn't find any story behind the shot.. haha.. thanks for pointing that out.. i think probably next time around i need to find a subject in the scene before taking the picture.. i usually shoot when feeling tells me to.. keke.. its actually over-exposed abit, that can also be why the signage isnt sharper cos the light is all bleeding over.thanks for the comment.. another side question.. to make the signage sharper.. i would have to take few pictures and merge it right? if i wanted to get the exposure right.. otherwise.. i either get blown out highlights or i get dark scene. |

QUOTE(ojtee @ Jan 31 2012, 12:18 AM) I was thinking more of using something to get a PRE reading on my camera, both white and gray card or device, shooting both raw and jpeg but mostly will be raw for the serious photos cheapest option, mennon white balance cap, rm20.anyone shotting fireworks now, i hear sounds like in a middle of a war zone !! it gets you somewhere there, just slightly on cool side. |

QUOTE(celciuz @ Feb 2 2012, 11:21 AM) 2 types of GGS, one is the glass stick on type (the one I'm using) and also the newer which looks like those that came with D90 and above bodies, clip on with black edges. the newer one is not really clip-on.it only attaches at the viewfinder area, the bottom of the lcd protector doesnt clip-on to the body like the original does...so it can move abit. |

QUOTE(Sadru @ Feb 3 2012, 03:32 PM) haha im too noob to understand how to calibrate the pc lcd monitor. no simple way, just go thru all those steps, then u can see whether ur monitor has a decent contrast ratio etc.is there any simple way of doing it? and guys, ever heard of APUTURE TRIGMASTER? i plan to get it as i already manage to snatch sb-700 ealier this year. i was quoted rm110 for it. have any other suggestion guys? http://www.camera2u.com/Flash-Accessories/...on-EOS-etc.html basically, as long as blacks look black, and whites look white, then its easier to get the other colors in place. a similar way is used to also calibrate LCD TVs etc. |
