bokeh is boring,
just get the wide angle, wide angle is fun  brows.gif

But most clients love bokeh, I find those who aren't into photography goes for bokeh instead of wide angle type of images...

if AF speed is not an issue, then the tamron would do nice, thing about the 85 1.8g is that there isn't any real life feedback test on it, so its kinda gamble if you get it first hand, abathen, since its the 2nd gen 1.8, it will prob be as good if not better than its predecessor
*
I will still go for 85mm f/1.8, bigger aperture, does not extend like the tamron. But it can't macro.

Yay, just got back my 16-85mm from repair. The zoom was a bit sticky from 70-85mm. I sent it to nikon center in BTS last Xmas.
Got charged RM432 for the repair. In the receipt it says they replaced 2nd ring and the relay FPC. No idea what are those.
Really glad now it worked wonder! Feels like new ..hehe.
*I lost my purchase receipt! LOL. sad.gif

hey guys, opinions please smile.gif im still waiting for the 85mm f1.8G. should i continue to wait or should i just get a tamron sp90? this is for a d40

usage: portrait, stage shots, compressed perspective

im also thinking about the tamron 70-200 f2.8. been reading about slow/inaccurate AF on tamron lenses. how bad is it for u guys? i dont mind the AF noise
*
I just got my self a tamron sp90 about a month now. though it is pretty sharp for macro and portraits, it is less practicle for portraits. Once in a while use ok lah.
This is because the AF speed is not as fast as AF-S or other motor lenses. Plus, there's no VR (if u care). Agree with celciuz, the lens extends a lot!
I use it for macro mostly as it is pretty sharp and can get really close. A macro beginner here. smile.gif

SP90 is a good choice for macro, but for portrait have to deal with the f/2.8, slow AF. The 85mm f/1.8G however is a f/1.8 and also a AF-S. Should be better for portrait, but of course not a macro lens like what the SP90 can do.

thanks guys for ur feedback smile.gif how about, say, taking a photo of someone on stage, e.g. graduation ceremony, VIP speech... can the sp90 AF do a good job? macro is not a concern for me, just a bonus tongue.gif

If macro is a bonus, get 85 1.8g la, new and smell good. And as mentioned by sifu, its going to be fast AF compare to Sp90 (judging by previous product of each brand)

We do agree that he can claim back the flash if he pay back the same amount at anytime.

I agreed to help and now im with 2 SB700 for now.

1) Tell me what i can do with it. tongue.gif
2) Rm650 good price right?

Nikon has launched the AF-S Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 G, an updated version of its popular moderate telephoto prime lens. The AF-S version of the lens is a completely new optical design and features a built-in focusing motor to allow it to autofocus on all Nikon DSLRs. The lens features an internal focus design and 7 rounded aperture blades. It can focus down to a distance of 80cm (2.6ft). The lens will be available from March 2012 for a price of around $499.

RM432, bleeding.

I just dont have good experience in using tamron, either AF problem or i felt that the ring hard to rotate and extend, this is from my experience in using my friend's 17-50

rattling sound just after focusing means that the VR system is engaged, rattling during focusing, i.e when the lens is moving back and forth means something is kaputs inside......but rattling of the VR shouldn't that loud, loudest i heard is from the 105mm VR due to the large SWM motor inside i guess
*
Hi just wanted to clarify, my 35mm 1.8 makes focussing noises which is not really rattling but ,ore like vrrr-ing. This lens has no VR so is this normal? Or it's messed up?
