Help! My car 2005 Savvy MT overheat then cannot start.

Today got stuck in traffic jam, then the car start to overheat. At 6 bar then I stopped by the roadside for, switch off engine fully. After 15 minutes restart the engine the see temp back down to 4 bar, I bravely reenter the jam and after about 10 minutes the temp shoot back-up and I pull over the roadside one more time. Wait for another 10 min then try to restart, but cannot. During crank sound like no power, battery low. Any ideas why? The car still by the roadside need to rush as got exam at school today, will deal right after this... Now cannot concentrate. Any suggestion is very much appreciated!

For you info just change the car rear brake pump due to leak, and done full bleeding just before the new year.

I think the high temp might be the temp sensor. I had the same issue during jam, Renautech changed the temp sensor and all fixed. Not sure about the cranking thou.

hi everyone.

if anyone want to change their timing belt for proton savvy i have 1 reliable mechanic for u.
the charge is rm320 for Citroen timing kit (timing belt + bearing +oil seal) + rm120 for labor cost.
total time about 3-4 hours. location is batu 8 gombak (jalan lama ke UIA).

his name is hassan 017-6760109. pls mention my name Wan as promoter hehe.

done my timing belt change plus change my front absorber last 2 weeks with very very affordable cost & service rclxms.gif rclxms.gif .

next to his workshop also a car painting workshop (also very cheap cost). 1 whole bumper cost is around rm80-rm120 only (just estimation based on my conversation).

he is open everyday, however please call him first before going there.

You got go refill radiator water during water boil that time? If yes, you need to open the dipstick and check engine oil now. If engine oil ady become nescafe kaler.... head sudah bengkok, gasket dah bocor. Ready for a full overhaul.

Again, not clear on how does the starter sound like. Would you mind record it? Can't start AFTER HIGH TEMPERATURE is indeed extremely worrying for me, don't know about how you people can put up a statement "BRAVELY REENTER THE JAM" 15 mins after full 6 bars overheat. sweat.gif

I was saying, refill water DURING asap that time. If waited until it cool down then refilll is fine. Many "smart" owner like to quickly add water after air masaked in radiator. Usually, your way to describing reentering the jam are right geh. However, my personal experience, the last time I had water boil, I stopped the car by the road side. Waited until the jam clear baru I move. I will not let my temperature go up to 5 bars gain whistling.gif

4 possible problem overheat :

Radiator - leak, clog, coolant not working.
Temp sensor - spoil.
Motor fan - spoil or cable not good connection.
Thermostat - spring kaput or thermostat housing leak.

Mine, change coolant not solve, change motor fan solve the prob halfway, last change thermostat housing straight away no problem anymore now, if hike 4 bar then few sec back to 3 bar.

I once go to,mr ho, straight suspect my head bengkok.. Wtfish, say change new engine better RM2k.. Walouweiii.. Go other shop one by one troubleshoot.. Cuci radiator once together flush new coolant..

last time, got one female colleague asking for help at a near makan shop. i was there overheard about her problem. the makan shop near to office is familiar among the office staff. she said the temp bar gone 6 bars (not sure what kind of car she's driving) then suddenly car cannot be started. guess here BRAVELY continue driving while the temp bar gone 6 bars up. so i guess sure head sudah bengkok, gasket dah bocor, kena top overhaul that is.

last time i got the same overheat prob. Actually it was my bro who drove the car that time. Stuck at jam in KL, temp raised to 4 never back to 3 as usual. Then gradually raised to 5 bars. My bro "bravely" continued to drive without informing me the problem. Then just before entering the toll booth the temp raised to 6 bar and the overheat warning sign came up. My bro pulled over to check before engine stopped itself.

Coolant was no more. All dried up. The he quickly refilled the coolant using tap water. After awhile he drove the car again. The temp lower to 4-5, but minutes after that raised back to 6. He stopped, found out the water has gone again. He didnt care just keep adding the water lol. Halfway to cyberjaya, the car felt like no power. cannot pickup using 2nd gear. The rpm could go as low as 500-600 rpm on idle, then stop by itself.

From there i ask insurance to tow my car to workshop. Cant afford to force to drive to PJ.

After full day repair at renautech, they fixed:
1. ignition coil cracked
2. Thermostat housing and sensor kaput
3. radiator clogged

around RM800 yo

luckily no damage to the engine. Up until now it is still normal.

i think common behavior for savvy is the temp tend to raise to 4 bar (for couple seconds) during long traffic jam. If the temp could not go back to 3 bar in minutes, i will stop and pull over.

so what is the main reason behind the radiator water dried up? got leaking? or because of radiator clogged?
