there isn't any VLAN settings, only PPPoE. VoIP is configured on the GPON.

Wow that means any wireless router or equipment can be used on it. rclxms.gif

I wouldn't be bothered to use the VoIP anyway.

i use microtik to handle vlan on my unifi. So essentially i can use any router too, although time's solution seems far simpler doh.gif

It's a shame though no residential areas like mine are supported :{

It saves you the hassle and space to place 1-less device in between the ONU and your computer.

No router equipment restrictions for worrying about 3-digit VLAN IDs.

Only weak point now with Time I guess is choosing Huawei brand for their ONTs. Should have went with better brands such as AlcaLu, Ericsson or Zhone.

For home gateway, you can probably supply a TP-Link WR1043D or a Buffalo for the same bulk price of the Cisco E1000.

Supplying good reliable equipment is one way to impress your customers.

who cares what ONT they use. you still get the bandwidth you subscriber, that's all that matters.

i'm not impressed with your logic.

To gain further reputation I suggest you should also inform the likes of NTT, Singtel, HKBN, and the other European ISPs of your great idea brows.gif

I'm not saying the brand is not gooding but it could have been better.

Just a suggestion don't get moved that easily, bro.

A suggestion for further improvement, that's all.

FYI, Google assigned ISP, Sonicnet also uses TP-link products for their ADSL2+ service.

iipohbee may have a point on better hardware because i'm getting slower speeds on the stock cisco e1000 as compared to my own netgear router. i will have to do further tests to confirm this.

why would i want to do that?

a CPE of your own desire will not have IPv6 support out of the box and will have to sign EULA not to allow cronies of whoever to use it.

fortunately, i think your favourite ISP can accommodate this.

hello brother,

i have a private broadband speedtest server within time network, can you do a test to there with both netgear and cheeseco?

i have the same e1000 and also e42000, both can reach 100mbps to the server.

pm me for info.

Just got the 2M Value Time Fibre BB package (without WiFi router) @ $99/mth - Free 10hrs BOOST to 10Mbps per month!!

This is a FTTH installation - even for high rise building!!. Unlike UNIFI, there is no VSDLv2 for high rise. As Time slogan says it's 100% fibre!! So, be prepared for minor drilling and fibre cable running from the floor riser closet into your living room.

The fibre optic cable terminates straight into the Huawei EchoLife HG850a (same model as UNIFI). There are no intermediary termination boxes (internal and external) like the ones use for UNIFI. Maybe, Time wanted to save on equipment cost smile.gif

Personally I don't see any benefit of having so many termination boxes. Maybe, it is for clear demarcation of responsibility or for easy troubleshooting or replacement of any broken fibre cables inside your home.

Anyway, the activation was a breeze. Just use PPPoE on your WiFi router or Laptop to establish the WAN link to TIME. No complicated VLAN setting like UNIFI.

I use a cheap TP-link WR740N router ($49) flashed with DD-WRT for the PPPoE WAN connection and also as an AP smile.gif

To clarify, there IS a FUP but they don't mention specific details. Quotas "may" be implemented in future, but as of right now, I'm hearing nothing about it. More info further below.

As for boost, there is a customer login page (reachable from both inside/outside the TIME network) where you click a button and magically get faster speed for X hours.

Probably the bit most people will be interested in - sharing of infrastructure. Assume all 3 (I think) ISPs that offer fibre services want to provide service in condominium X; it doesn't make sense for all 3 ISPs to invest RMxxx into 3 different sets of infrastructure. So, condos that already have Maxis infrastructure, Maxis will lease/rent their equipment to TIME/TM, and vice versa. Now, obviously, this is going to be a good thing for competition since customers will finally after 20 years in Malaysia be able to choose their wired ISP. However, based on current information - TIME will likely be most attractive to heavy downloaders due to the lack of "caps" - and because all these heavy downloaders start hopping over to TIME, guess what happens... they WILL implement caps. All this is based on current info, and subject to change of course!!!

EDIT: Also, I'm quite impressed with the load averages on the DDWRT router at those speeds. Must be some pretty swanky hardware on the inside of that router.

Unifi vs Time Fibre

Unifi 10MBPS - 200RM
60GB per month Quota(you will get 2GB per day)
P2P/Torrent Throttling
Uses Copper line from Closest FTB
Govt. Controlled - Piratebay, and such websites blocked
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Time Broadband 12MBPS - 220RM
No Quota - Unlimited downloads (86GB can be downloaded in 24Hours)
no P2P/Torrent Throttling - uTorrent Speeds are around 1.2Mb/s
100% Fibre optic cable untill the Modem at your house
Private - No website is blocked
+first 5 MONTHS are free
+for 1 hour daily, you get 50MBPS Boost for free

I'd say F#$% Unifi
