DP box is obviously owned by Maxis with the sticker shown.
How come? Is the fibre infrastructure owned by them?

My landed housing area in Ipoh here also now covered by Maxis fibre right in front of house. They run on TNB poles just like how they did previously in Bangsar Baru.

The fibre cable is green stripped

i'm not sure what you meant by "same lines" but afaik Time runs their fibre entirely on their on infrastructure and has different routing table as compared to unifi. As far as latency goes, i ping 15-20ms on most singapore gaming servers, 80ms to japan, 40-50ms to hk and 70-150ms to australia. (tf2, bf3, quakelive)

what *i think* goes on here is that maxis leases their equipment to Time.

i am pretty sure once IPTV hits any part of Malaysia, you will get to experience true fibre optic connection. as unifi is still on vdsl.

1) Can you help do a trace route to a well known US website with your Time account?
I'm guessing their gateway is routed through Singapore somewhere in between unlike TM which uses the AAG.
Time's international carrier uses Global Transit which uses Singapore as its gateway. They are a shareholder of Unity that links Japan->USA

2) You're right. TM and Maxis lays redundant dark fibre for future needs and use.
In one cable there's quite a number of unused strands that they can leased for added revenues.
In excess of pair of 6..
In your case, Time could have pinjam Maxis's unutilzed strands for deployment by paying them rental.

3)Maybe Maxis should make an agreement with SESB like their TNB deal?

Hop 9.That's where the latency spiked. I'm figuring it's peak hour now.

For TM, they route to US directly from Malaysia via AAG.

Also additional info:

Global Transit must be peering or sits on the same site as Asia Netcom which both have shares in Unity.

One of TM weakest link now is their connectivity to Japan. With my Streamyx, the latency is sometimes even worst compared to US servers. The problem is probably due to a missing high capacity link between Japan and Malaysia. Maybe the Cahaya Malaysia cable will solve that. The AAG does not have landing in Japan?

ezinger,

Does Time Fibre BB have VLAN settings?

I noticed you could just hook it up to a Netgear router with little hassle.
There's also no additional worries about configuring IPTV and other stuffs like VoIP?

Do you still need a PPPoE account to login or it's DHCP assigned?

there isn't any VLAN settings, only PPPoE. VoIP is configured on the GPON.

Wow that means any wireless router or equipment can be used on it. rclxms.gif

I wouldn't be bothered to use the VoIP anyway.

i use microtik to handle vlan on my unifi. So essentially i can use any router too, although time's solution seems far simpler doh.gif

It's a shame though no residential areas like mine are supported :{

It saves you the hassle and space to place 1-less device in between the ONU and your computer.

No router equipment restrictions for worrying about 3-digit VLAN IDs.

Only weak point now with Time I guess is choosing Huawei brand for their ONTs. Should have went with better brands such as AlcaLu, Ericsson or Zhone.

For home gateway, you can probably supply a TP-Link WR1043D or a Buffalo for the same bulk price of the Cisco E1000.

Supplying good reliable equipment is one way to impress your customers.

who cares what ONT they use. you still get the bandwidth you subscriber, that's all that matters.

i'm not impressed with your logic.

i will propose for a new brand of CPE and ONT for TM.

it will be called IPOHMALI. cheap one that's for sure.

To gain further reputation I suggest you should also inform the likes of NTT, Singtel, HKBN, and the other European ISPs of your great idea brows.gif

I'm not saying the brand is not gooding but it could have been better.

Just a suggestion don't get moved that easily, bro.

A suggestion for further improvement, that's all.

FYI, Google assigned ISP, Sonicnet also uses TP-link products for their ADSL2+ service.
