I am using Astro IPTV using TIME Fibre as well. Gaming experience not bad except sometimes the speed is really inconsistent. Even after booster from 6mb to 10mb, the speedtest return the result of 7mb for DL and 5mb for UL.

hi yeapch01,

i used my neighbour's 8mbps time fiber line for G a rena, the ping is 200+ ms. (about 1 sec lag, for mouse click to response)
my streamyx 1mbps line is only 70ms. (no lag). my son's friends all on streamyx.
game lag is not so much speed by routing of servers.

is it time responsive to feedback to better route to game servers?

maxis ftth got big problem and they are not responding to user complaints (see here https://forum.maxis.com.my/forum_forum.asp?FORUM_ID=70)

Hi Bro,

Please kindly post up a speedtest screenshot for us to refer (before & after the Free Boost).

P/S: Stop all other connections to the Router (except the test unit) while doing speedtest & test using cable connection (avoid wireless).

If the problem persists, please PM me & I'll guide you to pinpoint the problem.

Thanks.

The connection is from wireless BUT there is no wall in between. All equipment is in the living hall. I will post the speedtest result tonight.

Hi Bro,

To accurately pinpoint the problem & eliminate other possibilities, while doing speedtest, please use cable connection & stop other devices that are connected to the testing router from using the Internet, except leaving the device you use to perform speedtest.

Thanks.

I'm an AstroIPTV subscriber currently on TIME fibre and since Christmas weekend G arena League of Legends (I play on their SEA server which is hosted on the Starhub network in SG) has been giving me constant 200+ms pings.

Initial trace route results showed that traffic was being routed to Japan, then US before arriving in Singapore which at that time I thought was the contributing factor for the lag. So I called up AstroIPTV support and explained to them which in turn they asked me to send an email to wecare@astro.com.my with screen shots of the trace route results and such.

The following Monday I logged on to LoL and I was still getting 200+ms pings. Trace route this time round shows that the routing has been fixed (direct to SG) but seems like one of the Seabone node is acting up. Since the node resolved to starhub-50.singapore2.sin.seabone.net I figured I could try emailing Starhub to let them know about the problem. Instead they replied saying that they do not own that node and I would need to get my own ISP to have them get in touch with Seabone.

Last week Thursday or Friday I sent another email to wecare@astro.com.my telling them about that particular node. So far I have not heard anything back except another email from wecare saying they have forwarded my concerns to the technical department.

If you do a google search for "seabone lagging" and change the search parameters to show results from the past 1 month you will see that Seabone has been causing problems for quite a fair bit of gamers worldwide from games like D3, Dota2 and so on.

So far on the G arena League of Legends forums most of the users affected are on TIME network.

P.S (Weird I can't seem to put the link to that thread on the G arena forums. Oh well)
P.S.S (Ok seems like G arena autocorrects to flying spaghetti monster....wtf?!)

cheers.

Hi Bro,

I dont think Starhub actually owning the node as it most probably under peering policy between the ISPs with Sparkle Telekom Italia.

Can you try to post the trace route results here instead of linking to another forum, I think it's not allowed.

If you are connecting to SEA server, it should be direct to SG as Time has 2 interconnection via Tuas & Woodlands to SG Global IX. Latency should be around 20-50ms depending on location.

Thanks.

Yeah that's what Starhub informed me and asked that I get in touch with my own ISP to have them take action. I just sent another email to wecare@astro.com.my yesterday (3rd email I have sent regarding this issue) but it's still not resolved.

Here's the trace route result for 2nd Jan

and today's result.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

I have never gotten 30-50ms pings on SEA servers ever since I switched to TIME. It has always been constant 70-80ms which I felt was odd since we are like next to each other. The last time I ever got pings below 50ms was when I was on Unifi.

EDIT: My first email sent regarding this issue was 23rd December 2013 to TIME's customer service email. The trace route result then was slightly different as there was an additional hop that routed the traffic to Japan before making it's way back to Singapore. Here's the trace route result which I copy and pasted in the email I sent.

It was then on around Christmas day that the routing was changed directly to Singapore but through the Seabone node.

I'm using Time ADSL and I have the exact same trace route as you. The damn seabone node has been very unstable since december. I thought of getting Time Fiber would give a better routing to singapore so I can finally get 30-50ms pings, but looking as your posts makes me hesitant now. blink.gif

I think the 70ms-80ms pings I get to the LoL server in SG is partly due to bad routing previously. Looking at the current routing (which is direct) I think once the Seabone node issue is resolved we might see really low pings to Singapore, I hope.

Till then there's nothing we can do but speculate and wait.

Also I sent an email to TIS together with screenshots of the trace route but unfortunately they aren't entertaining me at all and asked that I contact my ISP instead. Sigh.

I just did a trace route again and it still shows starhub-50.singapore2.sin.seabone.net node with 200+ms pings. Somehow you don't seem to have that same problem.

I tested with my Time Astro IPTV at home and I have horrible pings as well. My ip address at work starts with 203.121 and at home 211.24. Perhaps the problem is ip related?

From my work connection.

Ping statistics for 203.117.155.133:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 59ms, Maximum = 60ms, Average = 59ms

Yeah you're right. I'm using Time ADSL and most of the time I get 203.*, and my ping is around ~70ms. Once in a while when I reboot my modem, I get the 211.*, the pings are horrible!

Kinda strange that you are using Time Fiber and are getting the same IP and pings as me, I don't know now if I should even bother to upgrade my line to fiber.. rclxub.gif

Very odd, it went from SG to JP and then from JP to SG. Probably a mistake in the routing and explain why your latency jump from 20+ms to 80ms and then all the way to 200ms. Can probably point out to them and hope they get their butt together and fixes it.

It could also because certain node have some issue and route changes until it is fixed. Home broadband is always about cost, we are at the bottom of the food chain.

Looks like the latency issue at Seabone has been resolved. Back to normal 70-80ms ping. Wonder why that particular node always has such high latency.

Hi Bro,

Try monitor for a week. Meanwhile later I will try to trace route from my end again.

Thanks.

Man, with your fiber line you also get 70-80ms ping, same with my adsl line. Doesn't sound right man..
