I've not been following the developments of Unifi but my sis-in-law feels we need to upgrade our Screamyx. Soo...I've a couple of questions I hope existing users would know the answers:
1. Can I continue using my existing SMC router instead of their Residential Gateway - I'm assuming RG is TMs router?
2. How many router ports does a Unifi installation use by default - 1 for BTU, 1 for DECT phone and 1 for STB?
3. Can I request the Unifi technician to setup the Set Top Box but not connect it to a TV - I'll hook it up to a TV in future? Because our current phone line is in a room on the 2nd floor of the house.
1 - No, since it's using it's own VLAN (500 for data and 600 for IPTV) and existing routers are not configured for seperate Vlan. You can get a third party Unifi configured router from lowyat plaza by Asus, TPlink and other vendors tho.
2 - Unifi will come with a modem that splits into a connection to your router (that will handle dial up) and your phone, Your router will not in any circumstances be connected to your phone.
3 - Yes, but usually they will ask to connect to a TV anyways as to test the service before you sign the agreement.
