Well, the problem is I may use the SSD as the primary drive if I have planned to build a new desktop PC. (currently I don't have enough money to buy the components)

Plus, my current PC is in IDE mode and the OS is Windows XP, and there is no way to update the SSD firmware in that mode.

easy.. drop vertex4 out of your list. and u shouldn't have asked about vertex4 sweat.gif

Not to worry about it.
It is not that one CANNOT defrag an SSD.
It is just that there isn't a need to do so because it makes no difference to the SSD, but it does contribute to unnecessary writes.

But make sure you don't make it a habit to defrag it, ok. biggrin.gif

Yes, shorten the lifespan due to the unnecessary writes. However, your SSD can endure a lot more writes and many years of service to you. So not to worry.

Just think of it as you have written 500MB worth of data to the SSD and later say, damn, I should have stored it on the HDD instead.
You delete the 500MB file, knowing that you had already written that much of data to the SSD before, and after that, you go thru your normal routine, thinking, today I did something that is just a waste of time. tongue.gif

sweat.gif You know that updater is only worked on Windows only, right?

Did updating that SSD will loss all the data inside it?

Haha..I have this experience too,i also misunderstand SHUTDOWN n RESTART meaning at that times.
The real meaning is Totally SHUTDOWN n After a Few Second just RESTART Back.

Although Mushkin Chronos is one of the cheapest asynchronous SSD you can get around in Malaysia, the price difference between it and an Intel 330 is just like RM10-20.
The Chronos 60GB can be had for RM260 but the Intel 330 60GB can be had for RM280. Same scenario goes for the 120GB versions.

So why wouldn't you want spend RM10-20 more for better performance, synchronous memory, and a realibility reputation that you can rely on? biggrin.gif

Unless you can find the Chronos for under RM220 or something, then yes go for it.

Considering an 180 GB Intel 520. Is it worth it? Performance wise, is it anywhere near OCZ Vertex 4?
