Guys, this is the benchmark on a brand new Crucial M4 128gb 6gbps. Is this up to the normal expected speed?

don't trust everything that a benchmarking software tell you. they have different method to calculate read/write speed. for example, 1024KB text/ascii file with 1024KB binary/application file is still a same size, but take different timeframe to be written/read to disk.

thats why you are getting different value from different kind of software, for example, atto, crystaldiskmark diskbench and so on.

if the manufacturer says some model can read 550MB/s and write 510MB/s, ask them what kind of method they used to measure the speed.

get the application, and use it. see if you get the exact speed. wink.gif
right now the only software i use that can match the on-paper value is ATTO.

I am planning to buy a SSD but with my rig like that. is it ok? I mean the Power Supply and my mobo.

Intel P8Z77-M
Kingston Value 1333 ram 4GB x2
Silverstone Strider 500W PSU

And I heard that the size of pagefile.sys takes up a lot of space (2.5 times your RAM). So if I have 8gb ram then it takes up 20gb on there? And Windows 7 takes like around 12gb. So if I buy 40gb SSD is it enough to install optional apps like Word, RealPlayer, internet browser all that?

Simply freezing doesn't mean much at all. There are many possible causes of freezing, some hardware and some software. You'll need to determine the cause of the freezing.

That is because ATTO benchmarks with easily compressible data, which is an advantage for SandForce-based SSDs, because they compress the data before writing to the NANDs.

ATTO is useful in determining if your SSD meets the manufacturer specs. But for normal performance, you want to use a benchmark that uses incompressible data, because most data are incompressible - applications, games, songs, videos are typically incompressible.

You can limit the size of your pagefile to whatever you want through "Custom size" in your "Virtual Memory" options. You can even disable the use of pagefiles if you like. This is safe for most users with 8GB or more of RAM as it is still rather rare to encounter a situation where you need more than 8GB of RAM. If you prefer to be on the safer side, you can simply set your page file to 1GB and Windows will force expand it when it needs to do so.

Another way to save SSD space is to disable hibernation. The hibernation file is as big as your RAM capacity. 8GB of RAM = 8GB of hibernation file.

40GB is sufficient for small applications. If u wish to install games and the restm better install it in another drive.

Yes

If you move your browsing cache , other junk to another HDD , it should be alright. Thats what I do , but remember this by doing this ,you are just making your windows and core application faster , but since for browsing it does not matter if its in SSD or HDD , it shouldn't have any impact on performance

Personally I wouldn't bother unless I was forced to do so. Most of our junk would take at most only a few gigabytes.

The 330 is a SandForce-based SSD. For any SandForce-based SSD, please test with ATTO. It should be close to the manufacturer specified performance. If it was not, please check if you are using SATA 3.0 Gbps or SATA 6.0 Gbps.

40GB is barely enough for me, if you are using Windows 7 x64, 64bit windows installed size is larger than 32bit version 'cause it has SysWow64 (prolly 64bit version of System32 folder) and x86 version of "Programe Files", now my w7 64bit already using up 49GB on my ssd. (mainly cause i used worng cluster side) sweat.gif im correcting the cluster size back to 4K....

And always Set the SATA controller mode to AHCI, before install Windows 7 to your new SSD,
or RAID if you want to (will have difficult later if you want to update your SSD firmware, cause the firmware upgrading software only work with AHCI mode and AHCI driver).
Never use IDE emulation mode, it makes your SSD behave like normal harddisk, which will suffering performance loss(its the default option on mobo) doh.gif

Certainly is the alignment of your SSD.
I have 6 PCs (along with laptops), all of them on Win7 64-bit with all the latest patches and updates from Microsoft, they haven't even exceeded 25GB on file size yet.

The largest being 23GB on my main PC.

Hey guys, after installing my Intel SSD 330 120GB for few days, i kept getting blue screen after 5-6 hours of usage, can't seems what caused the problem, overclocking doesn't fail when checked in BIOS.

What i've done so far.

Installed Intel SSD Toolbox, ran the Intel SSD Optimizer already, only thing i could think of is, i couldn't get Intel® SATA Solid-State Drive Firmware Update Tool installed, Intel doesn't provide a 64bit installer.

Here's the log i got after i restarted my comp from bluescreen.

It is indeed a failed OC!
BSOD 124 is related to insufficient vcore.
pls bump it up. nod.gif

Yeah may be thats the reason, i got a folder that is full of high resolution scans, 14GB, if i moved this folder my total windows 7 partition size still as large as 35GB.
Prolly bout time to re-install OS lol sweat.gif
