Guys,  whats the best 60Gb SSD model?
Thinking of getting Corsair F60 but wanna ask the sifus here first...  laugh.gif

Gonna visit LYP tomorrow.

Absolute fastest 60GB SSD now is the Samsung 830, but that might be quite hard to get and is quite pricey.
For much less of the cost and almost as fast as the Samsung 830, you can't go wrong with the Intel 330 or Crucial M4.

Other Sandforce based SSDs (other than the Intel 330) are like the Mushkin Chronos (cheapest 60GB asynchronous SSD out there now I think, under RM250 can get), Corsair Force 3, OCZ Agility 3 and so on.

My suggestion, if you can.. go with the Intel 330, RM280-RM300 is a great choice as Intel's reliability is legendary (there aren't a lot of error reports from 330 users thus far yet).
Unlike other SF based SSDs under the RM300 mark, Intel uses synchronous memory instead of asynchronous like other cheaper SF based SSDs.

Otherwise, the Crucial M4 is a great alternative too.

Thinking to move on to SSD. But i'm still cannot find HDD caddy for my current notebook HDD. Planning to remove the DVD drive and use it as external USB drive. But this will contribute to much heavier notebook.

Do you really need your DVD drive that badly?
Most programs or movies now a days can be gotten digitally anyways.

Unless you're going on business where you might have to use DVDs for presentation or something. But even then, you could always result into using flash drive as storage capacity medium anyways.

My notebook is setup like this now:
- HDD slot using a 2.5" 7200rpm 500GB HDD
- Removed DVD drive and installed a Crucial M4 64GB in its place.

Windows installed on the SSD obviously and all my other files is on the 500GB.
If I need to install huge programs (like photoshop or microsoft office or games even), I would then just get the .iso files and use PowerISO to install it on the HDD.

To me honestly, it's the best way to use a notebook today.

Thanks for replying. No, i don't need the DVD drive that badly but i might use it to burn something sometimes. That's why I want to find external enclosure for it. About the SSD, I also plan to do like what you did with your notebook, put my existing 640GB for my data and SSD for windows and applications. tongue.gif

Currently using SSD on my office laptop (Lenovo X220). Not a high end one, 80GB Intel branded.

Fellows, i just bought a new crucial m4 SSD 128 GB and just for your information, i am new to ssd. I followed the guide in the first page and i get this benchmark, is the entire benchmark normal? (see attachment) or it should be better than what it shown here? I wonder if i will be able to get better benchmark if I use a 6gb sata cable ? I am currently attaching the ssd to a 6gb port but, I dont think its a 6gb sata cable ... THX IN ADVANCE !

by default AS SSD and CrystaldiskMark write random data to your SSD to perform benchmark, its slower due to the data is incompressible(if im correct...)
If you want more accurate benchmark on AS SSD, click the "Tools" on the menu and run Compression-Benchmark.
For CrystalDiskMark, click the "File" on the menu > Test Data, All (0x00) or All (0xFF), both prolly same i think sweat.gif
The benchmarks numbers will be higher than "Default (Random)"
Its the same for ATTO bench.

as for the SATA 3GB/s cable vs 6GB/s cable, unless you are using cheapo cables, there is no difference between them in terms of performance

It seems you are running on Marvel SATA chipset. What motherboard are you using? You would get slightly better performance if you plug your SSD on Intel SATA chipset.
