Nope you can't PnP. The local set wouldn't have US channels like Netflix, Hulu+ etc... You need to change ATV3 region to US first then sign up a 1 month free DNS service with

Netflix is USD8.99 per month for new member. Free first month trial before you decide to pay up.

Open iTune, change country to USA for your current Malaysia apple id and walla now you have US apple id.
