You heard of Modem Sim Locked ?

Do you knoe that some simcard are locked, Locked to a Telco's modem only ?

You can call Maxis to unlock the simcard if its Sim Locked to a Maxis modem Only ~ if the CS is well verse in it. But you also can change the simcard ( which is easier ) you can ask some users here which batch is "good" .

hi guys, am wondering. i want to get a mifi. i have two choices.

one, i get a sim with surf more data plan of 5GB for RM75. then just buy a mifi device. insert the sim and tadaaah! i get constant data throughout the day but only 5GB quota. problem is i have extra cost to buy mifi.

or i could just get maxis's wireless broadband 8GB for 68 bucks. prob is it has a peak/non-peak hours and also i'm tied to a 12 moth contract. although at least i don't have the hassle to find seperate mifi..

so what do you guys think?

I have few options for my data only sim.
1. I use a mini portable 3G wifi router with builtin battery. The router also can be double up as external battery bank for my mobile devices.
2. I also bought a cheap dual sim dual active Ninetology android phone and use the mobile data tethering feature as wifi router.

Go networking section and search for people selling Maxis plan. There might be better deals smile.gif

As for your modem, you can always PM me.

Anyway, as aeiou228 mentioned, a portable router is better

that's why i'm going for mifi. it has battery and it is portable. it's just that i'm not sure which to choose. either the already maxis broadband wireless that already gives mifi for free or get the surfmore plan and look for a mifi device myself

Mifi is convenient but it has the disadvantage of the following :

1. Mifi Modem is builtin and you can't upgrade to faster modem in the future. Whereas portable 3g wifi router and USB 3G modem are two separate items. You have the flexibilty to upgrade to fastest HSPA+ USB modem as and when you like.

2. Mifi is expensive and if you just top up a little more money, you might as well buy a low end android phone which can be double up as mifi too.

I myself am actually a fan of mifi's due to it's portability. I can easily take my mifi with me and get internet where ever i go.

Vacation (no need to request for hotel wifi), makan, shopping (while waiting for my wife to shop), car (use gps stuff like waze). All this one just one internet plan.

I just bought an e5756 DC-HSPA mifi modem which i traded in with my previous e586. And so far it's great. Oh and the e5756 lasts up to 10 freakin hours lol and it also works as a power brick! thumbup.gif

Bought at rm600, but since i traded in my previous mifi, it was much less icon_rolleyes.gif

Since i only used it for 1 night, can't really average out the speed but best i got was dl 15mbps. Here's my speedtest now :-

Keep in mind that it's the weekend and probably alittle bit congested. My area is not a high speed area anyways in kepong.

Have you tried to use it with the USB cable plug into the pc or USB main adaptor without the battery inserted ?

I believe the MiFi reception will be best if the power source is at its optimum.

So far i have not come across any MiFi that can be power up without battery inserted except a YES Huddle.
