I myself am actually a fan of mifi's due to it's portability. I can easily take my mifi with me and get internet where ever i go.

Vacation (no need to request for hotel wifi), makan, shopping (while waiting for my wife to shop), car (use gps stuff like waze). All this one just one internet plan.

I just bought an e5756 DC-HSPA mifi modem which i traded in with my previous e586. And so far it's great. Oh and the e5756 lasts up to 10 freakin hours lol and it also works as a power brick! thumbup.gif

Bought at rm600, but since i traded in my previous mifi, it was much less icon_rolleyes.gif

Since i only used it for 1 night, can't really average out the speed but best i got was dl 15mbps. Here's my speedtest now :-

Keep in mind that it's the weekend and probably alittle bit congested. My area is not a high speed area anyways in kepong.

Have you tried to use it with the USB cable plug into the pc or USB main adaptor without the battery inserted ?

I believe the MiFi reception will be best if the power source is at its optimum.

So far i have not come across any MiFi that can be power up without battery inserted except a YES Huddle.
*
I'm using it via wifi. Haven't tried plugging it directly yet. Will do so later on and see but from previous tests with my previous mifi (e586e), the speeds are quite similar regardless of wifi or direct plug in.

As for the e5756 battery, it's actually built in and normal user can't take out the battery without some tools. So i probably can't really test if it works if the battery is taken out as i'm not that techy to do that.

The battery itself has more capacity than normal mifi's though. The e5756 has battery capacity of 3300mAh which lasts 10 hours vs e586e 2200mAh which last 5 hours, and i think that the yes huddle has the 2200mAh one? I suppose that it will take a couple of years to run down a battery that lasts 10 hours. So enjoy it while i can lol.

Right now mifi that supports 4g is quite expensive. I would probably sell my e5756 off in a year or so and take up a mifi that supports 4g, if got 4g provider that has a superb plan la. Probably will take sometime before any company does that though, or will ever do that at all doh.gif

oh pardon me, i din know that the e5756's battery is the built-in type

If you wan to prolong the battery's life, BEST IS DUN CHARGE while using it, same way we use out Laptop.

Btw, my Huddle's battery is 2700mAh.
*
Yup best to not charge while using. However i've been using my previous mifi for about a year while charging (lol) and the battery life never drops below 4 hours. I think that the new devices have an in built feature that stops the battery from charging when it's full. The only problem is the heat, but that is also taken care of as there's a feature that prevents heat. Take the info with a pinch of salt though as it's what i read.

Some laptops these days also have the in built battery. Most ultrabooks anyways. We'll see how that turns out in a year or two as i've also got an ultrabook with the battery built in doh.gif . On the bright side, it does last 5+ hours though.

How long does Yes Huddle last on battery?

Abt laptops, i can only see only Newer Macs have these feature really  working, others are dubious ~ correct me, if i am wrong.

I have not really used the Huddle from full charge till empty at one go before as the most i used on Battery was abt one hour most and used it a couple of times b4 recharging. I usually use my Zoom and while travelling in a Car, i will use my Ciggy adaptor (2A) to power it without the battery inserted.
*
You mean about the battery charging feature which stops when fully charged?

Most, if not all laptop/HP/mifi battery these days use li-ion batteries. These batteries can be charged 300 to 500 times, and they have an internal circuit to stop the charging process when it's full. So it's the batteries internal chip that does the stopping, not other hardware. Don't think that it's mac related.

Also, if you want to prolong your li-ion battery life, make sure that it's about 50% discharged if you wanna store the battery for a long time. If it's fully charged and you leave it for a long time and it discharges itself, it will lose a lot of it's capacity.

Another tip is to not run the battery down too low before you charge it again. Somewhere around 40-70% is recommended before you charge again. Letting it discharge to say about 10% left before charging will diminish it's capacity quicker as well.

Okay back to topic now.

Here's tonights speedtest with the e5756 :-

Yup, most huawei mifi can't remove battery. The newer ones at least.

I am actually using e589 now and i use it 24/7 (at home and away as i am occasionally on the move) and there is no ill effects till date. I've been using it 24/7 since March 2013 fyi. It's never off lol. It can still last me a day. Didn't notice any degradation of the battery life. Maybe it's hard to notice with a 10 hours battery.

I've been using mifi's for a couple of years now (e585 > e5756 > e589) and it's always been abused daily by me.

I know that alot of sifus don't advice doing this but from my personal experience, there are no bad effects till date. I reckon that batteries have evolved alot since and we're also actually using batteries non stop daily already (on smartphones, tables etc) and it can lasts years before wearing out. Even old ipad batteries are going strong.

Last time i remember using a battery on laptop and it dies out within a year or so, and it last only 2 hours for new battries. Not anymore with newer generation batteries. Not to mention that new MBA batteries can last about 12 hours now lol. The evolution of batteries are amazing.

Nowadays I rarely use my USB modem, MiFi is far easier and when always ready when I need it.

As for performance differ, LTE standardize the performance unlike previously some modem faster on 3G some slower laugh.gif

Definitely so much better on 4g... for now tongue.gif

The upload speed and ping is what's a massive improvement for a better online experience.

We'll see how it handles congestion in the future. Hopefully that future is still far away cool.gif

operate on LTE will confirm get lower heat too compare to hog on 3G  thumbup.gif

I kinda notice that the modem is not that hot on 4g when compared to 3g. I never did pay any real attention to it but this post kinda remind me about it. rclxms.gif

E589's battery is embedded, can't remove sweat.gif at home i use E3276.

I was using E589 most of the time, though its quite hassle there is no way to turn it off remotely(android mobile wifi app can do that but i have yet to try it), yeah im lazy lol
second is, the E589 USB port does not support data transfer, it's just for charging only sweat.gif
third, after i upgraded to Windows 8, both of my wifi adapter will randomly disconnected, there are still no fix for this problem, unless use another pc to share the internet by using ICS, or using back windows 7 sweat.gif
*
I think that probably your windows driver (wifi) should be updated to support win8, if there is an available update. Or is there really no fix for some reason? hmm.gif

I'm using win8 with no wifi issues here.

Was using TPlink 300mbps wifi adapter, tried different driver from stock to beta driver from TPlink itself also ssame, never knew the chip was made by Qualcomm Atheros sweat.gif it's version 3, version 4 using realtek chip already.
then i though their driver support was sloppy, bought second adapter from ASUS, made by Broadcom, even worst, after it disconnected from USB hub the adapter will not reconnected again  doh.gif
Both vendor also never provide new driver doh.gif
it happen too frequently, too irritated by it then i reinstall w7 and viola, problem solved sweat.gif
now i rarely use usb wifi adapter anymore, my expensive asus wifi adapter now is as good as decorative blue LED vmad.gif

That's one long story there. Feel sorry for you. But at least you got the problem was solved ady smile.gif
