dont bother at muayfit. . its not muay thai, you do a lot of cardio stuff, good for exercising but you dont learn anything at all. try other more authentic muay thai gyms.

1) Merican muay thai
2) Kirsty Muay Thai
3) TNT kickboxing (not exactly muay thai)
4) Sparta Muay Thai

Since that you've been to their trial session, would you recommend it to me then?
Just want opinion from someone who have been there for real biggrin.gif

I'll look for a day for their trial nonetheless.
I'd prefer Muay actually. seems like the most practical self defense art to me so far.
Kinda of contemplating want to sign up for any class or not.
Afraid it'll be too aggressive for me to handle.

thanks for the insight anyways biggrin.gif

depends on your goals.

perhaps you can tryout the classes at these places first and then make a judgment?

i know most of these gyms give out free trials.

but i was a member of muayfit and after a while, its not as fun anymore. small space, crowded, bad equipment.

merican is pretty good but its quite pricey.

right now im training at sparta muay thai at oasis, ara damansara. they are a tiger muay thai affiliate. and so far it has been great, they have two thai trainers in every class and the centre is really nice

muayfit prices are reallly cheap but thats on a 2 year contract. =)

each gym have their own pros and cons...u should try out their free trials first before committing

If you want to learn from real MMA fighters and learn many different martial arts, Muay Fit is ideal. But if you want pure Muay Thai, they may not be the best gym.

Fine print:
RM62/mth at muayfit only if you sign up for 2 years contract...
You have to sign up at least 5 months for RM700, but they'll give you extra 3 months (thus 8 months = RM700).
If sign up for 9 months for RM1260, they'll give you extra 9 months.

yeah true but for MMA-lovers, Muay Fit is still the best gym to go for. they have many fighters coming over to train the members.
however, as i said, for pure and more advance Muay Thai training, i think Sparta's Tiger Muay Thai training is the best

MMA - Mixed Martial Arts.

Pros that fight in MMA's fight have at least 1 base in martial art be it taekwando, karate, jiu jitsu or muay thai to name a few.

If you plan to fight in a MMA fight, master at least 1 martial arts, not bits and pieces from each because when you fight someone who have a strong based in one art, you most prolly will lose.

IMO, MMA class should not be for beginners that have no experience in martial art at all, but a sparring class (stand up and ground work) to put in practice what you learned in class, hone your skill, movements, flexibility, tips from your sparring partner and also the instructor.

MuayFit do not have pure Muay Thai class, but more to Muay Thai for fitness, something like body combat.
But if you want to practise MMA, yeah, it's the ideal place as always have fighters dropping in for training there. But whether or not you get to train/spar with the fighters, I don't know.

RM200 is cheap compared to other Muay Thai gym out there.
Unlimited Muay Thai class (depending on your level) , Muay Thai cardio and also their Fitz class..
And your trainers for Muay Thai is Krus from Thailand that have been training th art from when they are around 5-6 years old and also holds several titles in their fighting career...

What i know from surveying around is other Muay Thai gym's fees is at least > than 280++ and have only like 3 or 4 classes per week.

It depends I guess, on ones preference. Whether to train from ground 0 up or to train with pros that drop by the gym and get tips here and there.

Now I'm curious as to who you are. Imma gonna ask my friend to do some investigating... brows.gif

i think those taking MMAs not the real martial arts enthusiasts. just my 2 cents. if you really love the art, you will dedicate your time, passion and discipline into it rather than learning bits and pieces of it and trying to get into a cage and fight and then calling yourself a fighter.

i think those taking MMAs not the real martial arts enthusiasts. just my 2 cents. if you really love the art, you will dedicate your time, passion and discipline into it rather than learning bits and pieces of it and trying to get into a cage and fight and then calling yourself a fighter.

ditto... my thoughts exactly...

yeap, i think for example, if u really want to learn BJJ, might as well learn it from a proper sifu. learning a martial art is not just about whacking,kicking..its about learning and appreciating the discipline in it as well. besides, not all practitioners/fighters make great teachers.

my friend who joined muayfit said he regretted signing up for 2 years (just cause its cheap) as despite the impressive fighters that they have, you dont really train with them and there is no consistent trainer. well, my friend is 'poyo' in that sense la, he thinks by doing MMA he calls himself a fighter..hahah

yeap, i meant for beatdown, are you guys going?

exactly, one of the reason i stop my MT there because of no consistent trainer. you do not know who will be teaching until the class starts, sometime trainer's late. worse was when they put "pro" fighters to teach. really no comment n this one. shakehead.gif
if you keep on having different trainers, how do you measure your progress? and every trainer have their own way and style of teaching, you'll have to adapt to their pace every time there's new trainer.

I think MF pro fighters are overrated. Its all about marketing. a) white guy, b) winner of some unpopular tournament, c) had a few amateur fights. Everytime I hear a name I will look them up in wikipedia or sherdog and go meh. But not trying to say anything negative about them, at least they are doing what they enjoy.

I joint the MMA class for trial then signed up for that, kinda regret only after signed up and 1st class in Muay Thai.

Why? Lets say 1 and half hour of class, almost 1 hour to do warm up and exercises, nt exactly what i want, I want to learn something really martial art, no some sort of gyms, I have heavy long punching bag, glove, gyms set at home, so why i go there for gym not technics?

But one thing for sure, I will burn more calories over there than working out at home, just look at the bright side.

Lets hope it will be better in the future.

sometimes you need to let your trainers know what exactly you want to learn. spend some time with them after the class and ask how can you learn more techniques.

If you are prepared, my advise is to go for it. Look for a martial arts gym with programmes that can be tailored for weight loss, let the trainers know your need and your fitness goal to slim down. As far as I am aware of, there are many reasons people join martial arts, and it's not just about the art only. Some are for the self defense and some to keep themselves fit.

Seems like many have misconception about martial art.

It is an art, art takes time, and lots of tedious repetition.

As much as we want the best coach, the coaches are looking for best student. So earn it, stop b****ing about what you want in the class. Just shut up and train.

There are a lot of warm up and cardio during training are because it takes certain flexibility and fitness to perfect this art, else will lead to injury. One bad injury can make you quit the whole program. Just like if you can't master A,B,C... don't expect the teacher will show you the spelling of APPLE.

Look up "after burn effect" in youtube/google, this is why the coaches always push so hard.

I've been to Sparta Muay Thai classes for trial, they have good coaches, and it is very hard to come by good coaches. For those who b**** about it, they just don't see what these great people see, that's all.

May the spirit of martial art be with you all.

Hi, do you know how much does sparta MT charge for personal training? Do i pay in one shot too like muayfit? Currently i'm taking self defense PT in muayfit, agree that muayfit MT is just for basic and fitness, if want to learn advance MT i still think sparta MT would be a better option.

Kialchi is right. Don't waste your time with fagon muay Thai in jln Alor. They appear to be a good mt gym because they hosted some seminar for trainers before but other than that, nothing else good to say about them. Trainers are lousy, lazy and non punctual. it's as tho they rent a punching bag to you because that is all you gonna do while waiting for the trainer to do something. Stupid gym.

Muayfit got tons of negative reviews here and they seem to be a bunch of "my gym can kick your gym's butt" people, which is not cool. Although they got real mma fighters, i don't think it's a place to practice mt.

Sparta mt is the best in kl but its expensive. It's also incomparable with tiger mt Phuket as I have trained there a few months. Sparta is just a mini and sad version of tiger. Nonetheless it's still a good place to learn.

A few other mt gyms that I have been to:

Boxxwarriors ampang or kristy mt - lazy trainers. Prepare to kick bags and shadow like a fool. Trainers will sit there and pretend to care about you.

Global elite danau desa - fitness type mt but trainer is really good. He will correct your technique and really pay individual attention to everyone in a group class. But no pad kicking session.

Thanks for the advice bros. I was really keen with Dragon as their gym seems to look ghetto but complete. Hmm, I've heard of CTR313 in Wangsa Delima, Wangsa Maju. Will pay them a visit soon. But seems new and incomplete. biggrin.gif

please forget about going to kristy. I went there twice. Both times also end up doing shadow and kick bags only. No technique or pad work. worst still, the fat thai trainer sit there and yawn only.

The training is great.Unlike other gym, they train people to become fighter. There's also a number of fighter in the gym. Some of them already got many experience in the ring. The fighter's all got six pack. It's kind of shame for me because I got a big one pack.heheh. There is also a female fighter. I'm planning for another visit next week.

The price is a bit higher compared to Kristy Muay Thai Gym. But, I think its okay.
You can find more information about the gym from Facebook group.
I'm trying to see if there is other better gym around here.

Yeah there are many middle eastern fighters around and many of them are very passionate people.

Do you remember what's the training sequence like?

Warmup
Running
Shadow box
Bag work
Pad work
Clinching
Sparring

Is it like that? How long is the training?

MuayFit got involve MMA also? hmm.gif

You do know what is MMA right?

EDIT: Sorry my mistake (didn't google it), I thought MuayFit is some new Muay Thai activity that doesn't involve MMA. Now I know it's a type gym/facility instead of an activity.

I have been with Muay fit and i find their training is ok. Maybe you can try Sparta. However, i came to know that people who joined Muay Thai is because they want to learn self defence, stay fit and lose weight. I watched Dr. OZ video and i find it very true. A new muay thai gym called MaxOut has also been opened very recently in Ara Damansara, next to Lala Chong. The classes are currently free until the end of the month. The owner used to be a fitness trainer at Sparta, he also brought back Tanwa from Tiger Muay thai as the Muay Thai trainer. To get the rates its best to go there and let them explain to you on the available packages. MaxOut Gym

Hi guys, currently I'm thinking of joining either kirsty or kambiz warriors as beginner, which one would you guys recommend and whats the fees and flexibility of sessions like? Also which is better for female as i will feel more comfortable if there were other females training together not to mention easier to find sparring partner.

62 /m at muay fit, if u join 2yrs
Sparta changed to Viking the now AOF, Art of Fitness
180/m for unlimited, 150/m for 2 entrance/ week
They are more focus on cardio also

You should try MaxOut, Ara Damansara (next to Restaurant sea food La La Chong)
Price is definitely better a lot then both.

Muay Fit price is surprisingly cheap!

180/m for unlimited is overpriced tbh.

How much is MaxOut bro?

I don't see Jakickboxing in SS15 subang mentioned anywhere here. Although kickboxing in name, it seems to have muai thai elements as well. Anyone tried it out? Good/bad?

Hi guys, I just discovered this thread. I'm now subscribing Muay Thai Naga Api gym in Gombak/Batu Caves.

Rates not bad laa, cheapest RM100 for 4 personal training, and 30 days entry to the gym and access to equipment. RM100 for membership.

But now quite busy, I just asked the manager to defer my December's payment to January.

okay so this is what i gathered from this thread:

MuayFit - cheap but more towards fitness and not combat
Sparta/Viking - geared for combat but managed by Dean Koh

so is there any training gym that is geared towards combat but with an okay price (RM100-150..?) that is located within Subang/PJ? my friend is in Jak Othman's (the one at SS15) and he said that it is more geared for fitness and not combat. i would prefer focusing on the combat properly; not for fighting purposes but for the knowledge.

According to one of the former trainers that worked under him before, he did not pay the staffs and shut down the business.

But again, this is the world of martial arts, where rumors and vicious politics applies....

What do you guys think of having Personal Trainers to prepare for MMA competitions? Is it a must? Or attending those group MMA classes will be sufficient to learn the techniques?

If you are talking bout UFC level competition, you definitely need a pro.

If you are talking about kampung level of competition, maybe you don't really need a super good coach.

RM99 per month but you need to pay in one lump sum for a year.
Used to train there for muay thai. Dont recommend there if you are looking to train for competitions. They change the coaches too frequent.

If you just want a healthy body and not for competition, go ahead.

Dean Koh open Sparta, then close it down (fought with his business partners and trainers and he cheated them) and open new gym call Vikings using Sparta equipment.

At vikings, he fought and cheated the business partner and trainers. he change vikings name to art of fitness. he and his girlfriend, mel i think her name cheating their partners and trainers.

may be rumours, but i know the trainers and all trainers and former member of sparta and viking say same thing.

oh well, be careful is all i can say. imagine u sign up and gym close down and money burn

there's another one, called klinch mma, saw in publika. anyone tried that out before? from their website they say you can pay per entry, but you pay for 4 or 7 entries one shot. (so contradicting, say pay per entry but after that say pay for 4 or 7 entries)

am not looking to join competition, but would like to learn some sparring techniques to tone up my body. just wondering if muay fit is a good place to do that?

I am looking for muay thai gym for personal training. Currently, I have my session at sunway. but trainer resigned and I have just attended 4 session only. Looking for other gym for muaythai would be interested more on combat and defense rather than simply kick the sandbag

You can try to look up impact gym KL. They are now the sole distributor of yokkao gears. I heard that lumpini champions are joining the impact gym as trainers!!! And the best part , coach Dennis is clearing out many Fairtex gears in a very low price!!! The fees are now 400 for 3 months with 6 class a week 2 session per day. As for personal training , you can try to contact coaxh Den for details... cheers!!!
