I find it hard to play on a 5 piece set already after getting accustomed to the 6 piece on an ImperialStar. Drop to 4 piece I lagi  rclxub.gif.

Wouldn't you guys feel that a 4 piece is too limited? Like ^ said you'll require more creativity.

Isaac you guys look quite young. I would say around 19 or so? hmm.gif I'm personally in a band too but I've only played 3 gigs so far. And that's in the span of a year or so doh.gif. Not much things like this in Ipoh I guess. There was a live band club around my area recently but it was shut down due to lack of business(Also that particular lot is known to be haunted).
The only live band club I've seen which is quite successful is a Jazz bistro nearby my area too. Played there once. Not suited for our type of music due to the setup and size of the place + the mics gain was too low. I'm not the drummer for my band though biggrin.gif
*
I used to play a 7 piece setup. When I started gigging, and had to start carrying my kit around, I decided to downsize my kit, and it works for me smile.gif I just finished my SPM. HAHA.

QUOTE(Subber @ Dec 17 2012, 10:35 AM)
If you get a chance, try a four-piece setup, you'll be surprised at how much fun you can have. And it will help in your playing if you decide to revert back to larger setups.

More is less, except for cymbals...smile.gif
*
Yes. You can never have enough cymbals. biggrin.gif

Brass is more durable than bronze. Even with bronze cymbals, you shouldn't be cracking it if you have the proper habit/technique. So if you can crack a brass cymbal... well... :S
*
Durability, yes, but sound on the other hand. HAHAHA.

Isaac, you can experiment with 'curves' and 'split-toning' to bring up your images.
No flash was used and the shutter speed was set too low in most of the images.
Up the ISO settings. Since you are gonna convert to B&W in your final image, grain should not be an issue.
Just do not over sharpen the final image.

I usually do use curves when I put my pictures through post-production. This time I just uploaded it straight. You're looking at the raw picture. And yeah, the picture on the right does seem to have a little too much "colour" till its not very natural? smile.gif But I appreciate the comments.

And no, I was experimenting with shooting in B&W, not converting it in the end. And with a higher ISO, the grain is much higher. The highest I usually go is 800-1600. But I try shooting below 400 wherever possible.

Yeah, its the camera angle.
I've been mixing (first attempt tongue.gif) the drums with the rest of the tracks, and I'm not too happy with the whole thing in general la. It sounds like, an OKAY demo. I wouldn't dream of putting it out on radio. Oh well. I guess we'll get better as we go along. tongue.gif

A good player doesn't need a good sound engineer.

But even if you have a bad player, a good sound engineer can fix everything. Lol. Sad but true.

Picture aint working brah. biggrin.gif

I disagree. A good player still needs a good sound engineer. You don't see good players hiring bad sound engineers. smile.gif

can i try? hehehe
*
Sure! No problem. smile.gif I have a couple of drummers who are already going to be doing most of the work on the demos/EP (and myself), but I'd basically just like to know as many other musicians as possible as well (for future projects, perhaps?)

Perhaps we could liaise via PM or email (isaacmiranda@live.com.my)? It'd be great if I could know your style/experience as a drummer, etc.

I have a snare tuning question/problem. I can't seem to eliminate the "boomy" sound. Me and my wife have tried tightening and loosening the lugs for the batter head but there is still that slight boomy sound associated with toms.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
*
It could be your snare wires. smile.gif But probably your drum heads. smile.gif Try a different drumhead.

QUOTE(xDarkKnightx @ Jan 19 2013, 09:53 AM)

But honestly speaking, does the drum head you use actually affect the accent, quality and audible decible of the drum? My set came with Evans heads. But it's also slightly out of tuned for reasons unknown. And as far as my sister or I know, there isn't a drum tuner in ipoh.

Kind of shaky in terms of wanting to explore how to tune it myself and wouldn't i need a drum dial? hmm.gif

Nice to hear that your wife goes for drum lessons tongue.gif Perhaps you can post a video of you jamming with her.
*
Yes, it does affect it smile.gif A lot.
It gets out of tune when you play it, you need to tune it every once in a while. Basic tuning with a drum key is fine too, if you don't have a drum dial, etc. It's not like piano where you NEED to call someone to do it for you. smile.gif
