Idk... is it consistent? Feel?

HAHA Consistency in production, definitely. Even though I don't play Promark for my normal sticks, their quality is definitely one of the best in the market. Played a few Vaters too before, and those aren't bad as well. HAHA. However, I didn't find what I was looking for with those sticks (length, weight and width-wise), which is why I've been using Tama for 4-5 years now. Until they stopped production of the sticks which I love, and when I got down to my last pair of Tama's I used them exclusively. HAHA. But anyway I've gone down the custom/local route, and I've got about 8 more pairs of custom Heartbeat sticks left. ^^ I'll definitely be ordering more from Heartbeat in the future. biggrin.gif

Either ways, yes, brushes and rods; I trust Promark. HAHA.

I not really understand the need for custom sticks. Maybe just a feel good factor hmm.gif

Me too...I mean there are like so many sticks from different manufacturers not even 1 of them can "fit" you?  shocking.gif
*
HAHA Like I said, I used to use Tama sticks for several years, but they discontinued my favourite model. So after that, I didn't want to go through the hassle of looking for sticks, so I just ordered custom sticks with similar specifications, problem solved. HAHA

You're using Flying Dragons aren't you?  shocking.gif

Though I wish all double pedals can convert to two singles... rclxms.gif

HAHAHA Yeah. Trials just ended. Phew. I'll be drumming a lot this weekend. Then nothing till after SPM. Any gigs, anyone?

HAHA. I got used to that. But when I reorder, I'm going for a more plain design la.

Nope, the version before the FDs. I feel they're better wink.gif

QUOTE(OH- @ Oct 20 2012, 02:18 PM)
Err, guys. I have some problems with my double bassing >.<
I think it's my consistency. Sometimes when I get behind my kit I can straight away play songs with double bass without missing a beat. Perfect. But then towards the end of my practice, somehow I will lose it. I won' be able to hit the notes in time.
Other times on the other hand, I wouldn't be able to play nicely when I start out. But towards the end, I can suddenly play without missing a beat.
What's the problem? >.<
*
The only way to work on consistency is practice. I think it was the Shadows Fall drummer who said something like, its better to have a good 30 minute session than an OKAY 3 hour session. So, if you're on an off day, its fine if you take a break. With your problems at the beginning, that's why warming up is necessary. With the ones at the end, you'll need to work on stamina. biggrin.gif You'll get better eventually.

Haven't been really touching my drums lately, I could that I am getting rustier blush.gif

Oh guys btw, what drums skins do you recommend? I play mostly rock, blues, progressive and some metal. Mix in between. Planning to get it changed by next month biggrin.gif
*
Evans. ALL THE WAY. EC2. smile.gif Super versatile skins. biggrin.gif for your toms. EMAD for the bass. and depends what snare you have la. HAHA

i've never tried demon drive be4, i would say it's feels better than iron cobra n axis (too light for me),i personally prefer heavier beater, u can remove the 20g weight on the beater if you prefer the lighter feel but it's still up to personal preferences.
*
Ahh, I see. smile.gif I'm really interested to try them, cause I think Halpern uses them too, right? Anyway, I'm planning to get a pair of Speed Cobras to compare with my Yamahas.

AND, I'm selling a HQ Realfeel Bass Drum Practice Pad. Its portable and light, can practice in your room, no noise, etc. I've only used it once. HAHA.

Hello, I'm new to this part of forum. Been active in Console Couch.

Vixxas, KL drums for more than 9 years.

Preferred equipment are Tama Drums, Zildjian Cymbals. Currently don't have any equipment because money spent on study, still studying. But I do have a Tama 13" Snare that I love very much.

Preferred genre is Punk. I don't play double pedals, don't know why. It doesn't suit me and I don't have the urge to play Double yet.

Nice to meet you.
*
Hey mate! Welcome to the club. smile.gif
What are your influences?

As for myself, I'm a through and through Sabian guy. As for drums, I don't have any specific preferences, though I am partial to Yamaha wink.gif I do have a Ludwig Epic that I've only used once in a recording session that I'm selling off for cheap though biggrin.gif HAHA.

hi guys.. anyone have experience with Gibraltar DP? especially the 3611 (strap drive) and the 6611 series.. care to share your review or experience?
these pedal seems to have fairly good review on some part of the internet..

and also if anyone knows any shops that keep these pedals, would be very helpful.. wanna try it out lol..
*
Gibraltar is one of the most value-for-money pedals, no frills though. smile.gif For the price, its one of the best. However, if you can afford higher -end professional options, go for them. The Gibraltars are very durable, though.

i  just need a good quality double pedal, perhaps gibraltar

Added on November 1, 2012, 3:18 pmbut very very few drummer (just 1 or 2) don't have own double pedal. perhaps i should NOT offer double pedal in my studio at all?
*
I'd recommend you to get a set, just in case. You never know what freak accidents might happen in the studio (: You don't have to get Axis longboards or Demon Drives, a set of regular Gibraltar kicks should do the job just fine. Its relatively cheap, and very durable too. You're not losing anything if you get it, so why not?

QUOTE(repulse @ Nov 6 2012, 10:56 AM)

just went jamming with my band last night and saw all of my members buying themselves new guitars n equipments n when i look at back at my drums, sad la. so i've decided to get myself a new set in months to come. but because im no drum-tech-geek i got NO CLUE what's good in the market so i need all u sifu's here to advice me on this. here's the spec i sorta required:

1. 2 toms, 2 floor toms, 2 bass drums, 1 snare, 2 cymbals, 1 ride, 1 china (dont mind more cymbals)
2. budget rm8k
3. the drum will be set in a studio room of about 15 ft x 45 ft, wrapped with light DIY sound proofing. it's set along with all the guitars, amps, singers' huge speakers etc. by explaining all this, what i meant is i dont want a set of drums like of the DW's where its more suited for live performances; not in a room/indoors and definitely not cymbals like most of Zildjian's where its also more suited for wide open space live performances.
4. my type of genre will be mostly rock/metal. more to modern metal like lamb of god, mudvayne, suicide silence etc instead of metallica.
5. do advice me if i should just using a single bass drum equipped with double pedal or 2 bass drums. i have a DW3000 double pedal n it didnt feel right, n i cant seem to align it properly on my bass drum. figured single pedal will be easier maintenance after all.
6. i think most of u experienced sifus got the idea la. pls intro me some of the good brands/models n i'll check on the reviews.

thanx a million!
*
1 & 2. Hey mate. I've got exactly the kit you want. biggrin.gif Its a mid-level kit, RM4k plus at Bentleys. Its a Ludwig Epic in natural-black burst lacquer finish. I've only used it for a session once, and its been in boxes ever since. I sold the snare to Jimmy of Tempered Mental/Oh Chentaku a few years back (he's also a Ludwig fan l) ) So there isn't a snare with the set, BUT I can sort that out for you cause I can get you any snare for cheaper than retail. I'm not selling it with cymbals, but you can get them on the market here used. Budget 8k? No problem. My kit is in showroom condition, I'll sell it to you for RM2800 nego. smile.gif If you buy from me, I'll also get you discounts on anything else you wanna grab, including heads, hardware and anything else (even for your bandmates).

3. I don't think there are drums that are particularly FOR playing outdoors "like DWs". In fact, DWs are some of the best kits in and out of the studio. I've played on a DW kit for a session I did late last year in a studio, and it sounded like what you'd expect a well-tuned DW to sound like. Amazing. wink.gif Again, about the cymbals, I'm not a big Zildjian fan (I'm a major Sabian aficionado though), however, most of them can be used and ARE used in the studio as well. The A Custom series was specifically designed for use in the studio. biggrin.gif

4. Alright. Rock on. HAHAHA.

5. Personally, I've never been comfortable playing with two bass drums. I can understand those who do though. smile.gif For me, the hassle of having to lug around two bass drums to shows (when you don't have anyone else to do it for you) just doesn't make sense. I'm using a Yamaha double pedal now, and I used to have a pair of Iron Cobras. Never had trouble with them. Sturdy, and very durable, with great feel as well. Alignment is just something you've got to work with. smile.gif

6. Cymbals, I'd recommend Sabian. I've been using them since I started playing drums, I've worked my way up the lines, and I'm using a mixed AAX/HHX setup at the moment that serves my playing well. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(boiboi95 @ Nov 9 2012, 11:54 AM)
Hmm, how about Meinls and Paiste? I don't see quite a number of people in the forum using these 2 brands no?
*
Meinl and Paiste aren't that big in Malaysia due to lack of promotion. smile.gif You don't have drummers using those brands come down here to do clinics, etc. Bentley seems to just focus on Zildjian, and leave Paiste alone.

I do like a few Meinl cymbals and plenty of Paiste ones, though. The Meinl MB10s are pretty nice for metal stuff (that's the only context in which I've played them), and the Paiste 2002s are the only B8s that I've liked playing. HAHA.

Anyway, not many setups being posted up recently. Here's one from a session I did last Friday. I picked up where I last left off with switching my kits around, and I find playing in this setup rather comfortable with two floor toms, and that's about it. I didn't bring along my AAX and AA crashes dues to the amount of gear I had to lug around (including mics and MIDI equipment) so I used the house cymbals to complement my HHX hats and crash as well as my AAX ride.

user posted image

The kit is a Ludwig Element in black, 14' and 16' toms, 14x6.5 snare, and a 20x20 kick drum I think, and of course, I used my trusty Evans heads. EMAD Coated for bass batter, Hydraulics on the toms, and Power Centre Reverse Dot on the snare. The mics used were Shure 57 overheads. Aesthetically, I guess the kit could have looked a little nicer, but I didn't bring all my hardware this time round, and the house kit didn't have many long/boom stands, so nevermind that. I'm using my Yamaha direct drive doubles on the bass. And of course, my Heartbeat Isaac Miranda sticks wink.gif

Can't compare to DW also 'coz they have a lot of, let's say "not-so-positive", comments from "reputed" members of respectable drum forums haha.
I still remember one vid where John Good tapped on a smaller drum shell and then a bigger drum shell and proclaimed that they have the same fundamental pitch. Even on Youtube's compressed audio I can hear that the fundamental pitch of the two shells is actually is different. Way to go DW! :S

Besides the Mapex that everyone's mentioned... I guess assembling your own snare would also be a great choice. The cost of a 14x6.5 Keller 10-ply shell complete with drilling, bearing edges and snare beds, and quality hardware is less than $200. With shipping and tax you would have to stretch a bit.

Another thing to consider is whether your future sis-in-law would be willing to bring your drum back in a bulky box. You might need to buy a hard shell case to make it easier for her to lug around and check in. Even better, why not get a hard shell case, put your snare in THEN box the whole thing up haha. Just FYI, my hard shell case got slightly deformed during the trip back from USA. This case doesn't even deform when I'm standing on it so it was probably stacked at a weird angle.
*
Yeah, I'm definitely getting a case to bring it back in. Probably a Gator or something smile.gif Yeah, probably.

Anyway, I'm sure every company has their screwups. In my case, I've never played a DW that sounded bad, when tuned properly with good heads. HAHA. Its the drummer maybe wink.gif

I was actually considering doing exactly that with the Keller shells etc. Anyone wanna bulk order? We could start a LYN snare shop. wink.gif

QUOTE(5p3ak @ Nov 21 2012, 03:04 PM)
The way I see DW make the drums like not that expensive also...aaa lot is machine cuz ply wood just glu and press...only the painting part looks abit hard. hmm.gif

In malaysia can get Keller Shells?

BTW,
They don't let you bring the snare on the plane? hmm.gif
*
Malaysia can get from overseas la wink.gif HAHHAA.
Uhhm, you can carry on, but might be a bit leceh la.
