QUOTE(shuyin_lenne_2007 @ Apr 24 2012, 08:25 PM) Yes, imbellis, smaragdina, stiktos are all from the splendens complex but this thread is about the splendens' splendens. LOL! slight correction:Shouldn't really drag on into the wild bettas or else it would poison the people here. Haha! Though, it still remain controversial of the species called Splenden, others like imbellis, smaragdina(might be broke down further into 2 species later on) & a few others falls under the group Splenden... And the origin of "show grade"...comes from fighter, through selective breeding as well...trace further back, fighter are ordinary species from Splenden group, "trained" & selectively bred for the kiss of death, in the process, successful fighter were released in different localities(bare in mind that other sp of the same group might exist in the released habitat)... So, after all, people does call show grade betta as Splenden as an easy name(i.e. people in general call them fighting fish), the species of Splenden does falls under the category as well so do fighter...all others? probably the near cousin or far cousin of them unless we want to stereotypically classify them into show, fighter & wild. Btw, if there's an intention to open up a different discussion for wild betta alone, I'll lend my help, but don't count on the number of people as this is one of it's kind type of hobby(you'll understand the situation over time in the hobby) As for Imbellis, there's a reason fighting fish is called fighting fish... Lot of case of imbellis killing each others happen before, though they are nick named as peaceful fighter, it does happen when you does not match the number of fishes well with deco & tank size plus other factors i.e. separately house them before, mixing new batch of fish with an existing batch in tank and so-on @Faez, any result from Cybervida, Tussyae & brownies? Hello there c.way, pleased to know of the details. Anyway, I got to know of your name from Faesz. Honored to see you here!
You were right about the term that bettas are known as fighting fish as they do fight. That is their nature though. Besides that, even betta bellicas do tussle around although being said as the most tamed betta species from a video I saw. I've lost one of my two betta bellicas, mistakenly that I have been given both males and placed them in the same tank and one of them just nip the other brutally. |

Faesz told me the same thing, that you have quit. I came into wild bettas too late. I've just resume getting into bettas some Feb this year after some 10 years absence. Been playing with plakats, fighter and some veiltails back in 2002 or 2003. Am more into imbellis and bellica for the time being. The super rare and endangered ones I'm feeling rather worried to try my luck. Keeping is one thing, breeding them is another issue. Haha! Good luck to you c.way, hope you will resume your passion and let it spark again. Would love to meet the community of wild bettas masters someday. Thankfully I've met Faesz and to me he's one crazy wild betta guy already. |

QUOTE(beawolf64 @ Apr 27 2012, 05:12 PM) I'm happy with my batch of fries right now. Smaragdina copper spawned, so did a pair of imbellis. How was your Sabah trip? Did you go down to Kalimantan or Borneo for some species like Macrostoma or such? |

QUOTE(kimimaro_kun @ Apr 30 2012, 12:49 PM) Sure. No problem. If you have them in a tank, i.e Guppy brand tank of say 7" or 9" with say 8cm to 10cm of water, that should be fine. Of course, before you leave home, drop in some crunched pellets or tubifex worms into extreme powder form, feed a teaspoonful. Job done! Good luck. |

I do put some crushed pellets but not so much as a teaspoonful. Hope that will be enough |
