Will betta fish fight with opposite gender? I'm planning to get a female betta fish to breed with my male betta fish.

Added on April 8, 2012, 12:43 amoh yea, do I have to put my betta fish somewhere brighter? I put it in my room which is usually dark most of the time.
*
The male won't really fight with the female. He will flare at her as he gets sexcited. You will see the male dance around and start to build the bubble nest.

He will only nip her fins when he chases her for spawning process. Good luck!

Question. what is the different of u guys betta with those cheap ikan laga sold in aquarium shop eh? is it same but with different class?
*
Answer. The expensive bettas are mainly the quality selective bred ones with beautiful finnage, perfect colour rays and tail shapes. Suitable to be show bettas I suppose.

unfortunately more and more newbie r selling their  betta with very high price with poor quality..  rclxub.gif

Pity that. No idea why the cross-breed of all these show bettas are being sold at such a heavenly price. Bettas used to be really affordable for everyone. Back then I could get a fine betta at just 50 sen and it was pure breed.

oh. thanks for answering. i was confused when i saw they selling those ikan laga rm 7. while those with label hmpk and plakat etc etc for rm40-50-70.
i kinda like them. can we keep bettas with shrimp?
*
Define those RM7 ones, what are they? I'm quite curious to know the fin type and colour variation of them. It's an odd pricing though. The LFS I've been to mainly sells the bettas at RM2 or RM10. Were you referring to the RM7 ones or the RM40-50-70 ones that you like?

Besides that, if you say shrimp and if I'm not mistaken that these shrimps are those RM1 for a pack to use as bait for fishing, then I wouldn't recommend to keep the bettas with them. I've once tried this in my female bettas tank and they've eaten all of the shrimps by the next day.

Further, if those shrimps are the very pricey pet shrimps, i.e: cherry shrimp, crystal red shrimp; you should better not keep them with the bettas for what it may be almost the most expensive food for them.

my suggestion to future hobbyist who wanted to breed, plz research and read and know wat u shud do b4 u act..

eg: food preparation, tank preparation, etc

nowadays Most of the ppl only wan ppl to spoon feed thats y betta quality drop so much..
Anyway back to ur question, u can remove the father once the fries r free swimming.. what is free swimming? go search it urself..

and for ur information, some breeder keep the father with the fries until adult. every breeder has their own unique way to keep the fries..

Added on April 11, 2012, 8:25 pm
haha.. my betta sapu all my ghost shrimp also.. even pleco they also can kill..
*
LOL at the 'free swimming'. What is free swimming? Layman's term, it means swimming freely without supervision, will float and won't drown. Haha! Easy ain't it?

I do remove the male betta once the fries start to swim freely as a precaution of the fries being eaten up mistakenly as daphnias by their father. Unless I'm mistaken, the male betta could be kept with the fries until the fries become adult which I'm yet to experience.

Indeed you were right on the pleco being attacked by the bettas. I had one pleco, double the size of the normal adult females (I keep some 10 to 15 female bettas in a huge porcelain jar - those known as 'salted eggs jar' which could store some huge amount of water), got pecked badly by the female bettas and suffered massive injuries and ended up as fatality. Poor thing!

lol i dont know how to explain that. k from what i saw, it seems tail and fins are longer and larger from those hmpk.
btw i like the pricey one. lol.
*
That is interesting. Perhaps the finnage you refer to belongs to the long fin halfmoon type. Follow your heart, pick and purchase what you like best is what's best to satisfy yourself. You must have been totally attracted by their finnage. Have fun!

I think putting the shrimp with bettas is like putting a plate of lobster in front of Edmund  laugh.gif

LuQee, can you post pic of your dropsy betta? How to tell if a betta has dropsy?
*
LOL at the lobster platter served to Edmund.

LittleBetta, this is how dropsy betta looks like. Warning in advance of viewing the photo may cause disgust in your belly.

See? It looks like some puffed up scales. In this case, just as Edmund has pointed out that unless if you know how to perform bladder operation, otherwise the betta is 99% KO.

Hello and welcome to the betta splendens thread!

That looks like a lovely steel blue or perhaps royal blue veiltail male betta from the blurry photo. How much does it costs?

If you're asking about how many times to feed daily, I would recommend not to feed too much instead of feed too little.

I will feed my bettas once per day or when I feed them with live food like blood worms, I would diet them for a day or two after the feed.

You wouldn't want to train your betta to keep eating and can't survive without food for a day or two or even more than that (if you plan to go for a trip for example).

Regarding the hatred of light, bettas do live in a quiet and stagnant water in the wild and the question is, who likes to be kept under the glaring light?

Try to give them some day and night feel just like how you live at home on a daily basis, unless you are a person who loves daylight 24/7.

Beginner tips, not really I could think of any. Well, easy it is though. Here are a few of it which I believe will be useful for you:

- Make your betta happy; give it some flaring exercise to keep them fit; keep it in a larger tank if you do have one; feed it with live food at times and it will show you its most beautiful colours.

Happy keeping betta and have fun!

i buy rm3 only
ty for the info

It can be differentiate without effort that the betta shown is a male.

Not bad for the pricing, I could get a veiltail for RM2 though, but RM3 is still reasonable.

Happy keeping it!

Shrimp? What kind of shrimp? Do you mean baby brine shrimp? Why don't you try to get daphnia? RM1 and you will get a pack sufficient for free-flow supply for your betta fries.

Welcome onboard. Beautiful delta tail male by the looks of it, unless it is a halfmoon if I'm mistaken.

When you said 'flipmode reporting in', I thought you were referring to the betta has gone belly-up and KO-ed, until I've noticed it was your username.

Try to get some dried leaves, catappa perhaps. Be warned though, it will make the water change to brownish in colour.

Their father is splendens cross smaragdina with some mahachai like tail, turquoise green though. Their mother is splendens normal fin turquoise blue. I'm yet to see their coloration.

Show bettas only ey, edmund90?

Let me test my knowledge of tails and finnage. Veiltail, delta tail, double tail, super delta tail, halfmoon, crowntail, fan tail.

And here goes the colouration. Red, super red, royal blue, steel blue, turquoise, melano black, platinum white, tricolor, salamander, thai-flag, marble, fancy, mustard gas, what else?

Besides that, there is also the type of bettas. The dumbo ears, plakat, giants, hybrids, fighter. Did I miss out any?

LOL!
