no worry about the ammonia stuff la, it will take years to get ammonia poison to the fish due to the amount of shit in the tank. betta r quite hardy fish.

i dont really care about those stuff. just make sure ur water is not contaminated then shud b ok.

OMG dude, betta lives in tropical weather of Thailand which means warm temperatures. Preferably 26C to 30C sweat.gif

You should know this basic fact before getting a betta!

There's no need for lights.

While bettas may be hardy, still it is not humane to subject them to various unhealthy living conditions such as:

1) Unfiltered aquarium
2) Super small aquarium. It's like forcing a cat/dog to live in a cage. They need big space to live too.
3) Unsuitable temperatures
4) Poor water quality
5) Ammonia poisoning <--- I think you better read a lot about this.

http://faq.thekrib.com/begin-cycling.html
http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/biologic...trogencycle.htm

Please read!!

Regarding your fish:

1) How big is your tank?
2) Do you have a filter? Is your filter properly cycled?
3) Any signs of diseases?

About one month already..what do I need to do with my filter then?

Bought it from one of the shop from jalan pasar and set up with the tank right away.

Make sure your filter is properly CYCLED first. This is the most BASIC and most important step to know before rearing any living creature in an aquarium:

Any amounts of ammonia is still dangerous to fish. Even though bettas are quite hardy fish, that does not mean you can subject them to various irresponsible and ignorant acts that will harm the fish in the long term.

And mind you, ammonia is also released directly from the fish itself. The smaller the tank you have, the more frequent you have to water change due to the accumulated levels of ammonia in the water.

Hi guys, I'm in Australia right now. But I prefer to ask things here.

I just got a new betta, my other one passed away and my girlfriend was really saddened by that. So this new one I would hope to last for a longer time.

I have questions about the water change, the pet shop owner told me I should only change 20% of the water, but I'm just wondering, if I keep the other 80%, how to clean the water?? It is currently in a jar, and I would hope to change to a 10L tank soon. What safety measure should I do to change the water? How do I take the fish out? Would net damage the fish?

I want it to look great while being able to live longer, I don't need it to be beautiful for competitions, just want it to be beautiful for itself nia.

And what are ketapang leaves name in English? I am currently looking for plants for it to play, I don't remember the name of the fish species, but the owner said its a dumbo betta.. Because of the fins looking like dumbo ear. Help me with this guys! : (

Ketapang = Indian Almond leaves.

it's advisable to use aged water. Usually i will keep the tap water into a clean pail and will only use it for water change the next day.
Since my betta tanks aren't that huge, I'll do 100% water change (with aged water).

No worries. Can you find Indian Almond tree in Australia? I don't recall seeing any when I used to stay there.....Brisbane.

The net won't hurt the fish, but scoop with care and gently.

I heard it isn't allowed to import here, but there are group buys every now and then. I will try to ask the pet shops about it.
