if u like ping pong, spend rm1k also considered ok la..
its the same like a tennis player, good racket is around rm700...

or imagine those golfers.. play golf no better than tiger woods, but many got all types of clubs, which are not cheap..

basketball shoes also easily reach rm600 nowadays..

so, whatever sport u are into, u cant really put a limit, if u can afford it, go for it..

Well, I invested in a bat that is worth RM400 PLUS I eat 7 meals a day of clean food + regular sessions at gym + protein powder.

If I could make a commitment like that, how come you can't?

Has it come to your mind that there is a remote possibility that I may be poor and I am just trying to get the most out of what little money I may have left ?

no problem....I believe in PPL first equipment last....develop the talent first. I randomly destroy 'better' players with even better equipment with lesser. laugh.gif ......being broke makes you try harder.

Ya, Steven is very committed to table tennis.
A nice person and a good player, too. (If I am not mistaken, Training Mon, Wed & Fri at Union, PJ.)

I agree with the above comment "... trying to get the most out of what little money I may have left".

It doesn't matter what equipment you used, be it cheap or expensive.
IMO, If a good player (practices frequently), say name A, plays with a basic set-up against an average player, say B, using expensive equipment, for sure player A will be better than player B.
But if the 2 players practices regularly, then there are 2 possibility - either it is 50-50 chance irrespective of using cheap or expensive equipment OR the player with the better equipment (note : I did not mentioned expensive) knowledge and familiarity will win between the two.

I am also poor player, using Chinese rubber (because it is cheap) and practice once a week. If I encounter a player like Steven (who trains 3 X) a week, I am at a disadvantage due to lack of practice comparatively.

Not to be offensive in my previous post. Was in a pretty bad mood that day. My apologies.

Anyway, if you're playing a sq bat, I'm assuming its a J-pen styled bat. I'd still recommend you to put aside RM250 for it. Postpone buying it for a month or two if needed because it is more worth it in the long run.

In a way, learning and playing in a low quality bat will screw up your strokes and limit your progress.

P.S. Chinese rubber ain't cheap. (hint: H3 province= RM120 per rubber)

thinking of switching to a round bat, since I am less flexible.......and its kind of you to apologize thank you.

I used to use a square bat because my uncles said you cannot return a spun ball to your left if you are right handed, and I did it when I was more flexible la laugh.gif

.......RM120 for a slab of rubber...... rclxub.gif

Don't know what kind of spin you're referring to, but yeah, a round bat would probably be easier as you can use the backhand. Then again, it bottles down to preference about how you like your backhand to be.

My place here its normal to borrow someone who just got a new bat/rubber tongue.gif
Everyone wants to "feel" how good it is and then make conclusion. I think its a good practise cuz ur expose to different types of blade and rubbers.

Have to agree here it really depends on the player. Whenever we see some pro-uncle borrow some newbie blade, its amazing how wonderfull he handles it. When we (the lower class) try to use, the blade turn into shit, and then complain the blade too hard la, too bouncy, rubber too soft, handle too short bla bla bla rclxms.gif

Interesting discussion. Anyway, for me, the bat is important, as it governs the overall feel of your whole play style. I have several decent and cheap ones, and they really feel different. As for rubber, although CHN rubbers are relatively cheaper, it doesn't mean they are inferior. I bought a RM 65 rubber and it's not bad, provided you couple it with a decent bat. Also, the bat can really last long, unless you bang in to the table by accident... laugh.gif

More importantly, you need to have proper playing techniques to 'get to know' bats and rubbers. I recommend bat around Rm 150, rubber around Rm 80 to start with so that you'll have a better feel. Trust me. I've been playing for > 20 yrs... (I feel old... sweat.gif )

mine is
727 Friendship Hinoki OFF
FH: MilkyWay Mercury II
BH: 729 Friendship Origin

the backhand rubber slightly tacky, so backhand chop need a lot of control, otherwise the ball 'fly' or melambung tinggi..

i tried change, play black as forehand, but the black rubber a little bit slower... cannot go...

I know. The high end Chinese rubbers are on par with their European counterpart (like Stiga, Donic, Andro, Tibhar etc). My Chinese rubbers are limited to Palio (not the Macro Era or the "tensor" type) and LKT brands which cost below RM30 per piece.

The secret is their skill level. We are no where at their level, hence cannot perform what they can do.
But with more practice and over time, I believe we will be on the right path to reach their level. biggrin.gif

Can see > RM100 rubber in the shop mar.
Like what Steven has hinted in his earlier post, a DHS Hurricane 3 rubber retails around RM30-RM 40. A Hurricane 3 Provincional Rubber (was told of a higher grade than the standard one retailing in shops) cost about RM120.
Other rubbers from Xiom, Stiga, Yasaka and even Butterfly has rubbers costing more than RM100. (Eg. Butterfly Tenergy series retails at RM200)

Good suggestion, forgot_86.
But most members here are not regular in the forum, it will not be updated when they change their set-up.
Myself, an EJ, changes my set-up every 3-6 months. IMO, not informative.
As for location, it is good as other members can search for members in the same locality to play with each other.

Just my 2 cents worth of opinion.
