Added on October 26, 2012, 10:44 pmbut there is a chance the market in asia is slowly getting saturated...seeing the fall in exports for 2012...
maybe in 1-2yrs time it'll stabilize and be about the same total as the US?

the new movement is definitely better.
but for most ppl also there is nothing wrong with the old one.
between both oldand new PO, few things divide most ppl...one is the ceramic bezel which doesnt look pure black...the other is of cos the thickness.
i like the ceramic bezel tho...but dont like the thickness tongue.gif

At that price point of an Omega, one really SHOULD care about the movements that are beating in their timepieces...expensive things those are rclxub.gif

The tendency is always to believe that a new movement is better because it after all is the latest and assumed most hi-tech and improved...but what new movements do not have, is a proven track record.

We have some legendary movements from the 60s/70s/80s that have stood the test of time and some of them are still being used in todays hi-end watches... the JLC 920 & 478, Lemania 321(is it still used today?? hmmm), Zenith 3019 El-primero instantly come to mind... for testimonials of durability, accuracy and reliability... you'd also have to include various ETA movements (2890 - 2892) & Valjoux 7750 as special mention as well...(i wont be mentioning any movements from the "holy trinity" as i will be bound to go on all sorts of other tangents sweat.gif )

but then again i don't suppose most of the big fish who own S600 Mercedes ever opened their car bonnets in their lives...but then many of them sort cannot be considered enthusiasts as well...

well first of all the 8500 was built from scratch with emphasis on a co-axial escapement... it also comes with omegas new Si14 silicon (pictured)balance spring which apparently makes it more shock resistant.

the 2500 is essentially a an ETA 2892 with an added co-axial escapement applied.

Interesting to see the bulk of Swiss watches going to the HK market. The Chinese must be spending millions on watches there.

I recall reading that Sir George Daniels 1st 2 prototype watches (Rolex and Patek Philippe) fitted with Co-Axial escapement was not service for over 15yrs.

Plan to get an Omega Seamaster and this will be a 10yrs watch for me. What size should I get? 12 yrs ago i got a Tag Aquaracer and it's out of fashion (small dail) now. If I get the 45mm big dail, will it be out of fashion later?

IS THERE A STANDARD EVERGREEN SIZE?

hard to predict 30-40yrs down the road.
your 12yr Tag is at what size?

some brands today are going back to smaller and thinner size for the Chinese.
older rich chinese don't wear those 45mm watches. They love their suit and tie.
their kids that don't make money do, but I doubt many daddy will get them a neat PP or VP tourbillion or min repeater.
