Btw, refer to your sales and purchase agreement on the last few pages called "Schedule". It details items and water piping and power and lighting points that comes fixed with your house.

Hi morning folks, I still undecided and have some options for my 4 bathrooms and kitchen -

Option 1 : Instant water heaters for all 4 bathrooms ie, 4 x RM699 = RM2796 + kitchen dispenser (under sink) RM638 = RM3434

Option 2 : Master bathroom 40L single tank RM780 + 2 bedrooms (shared) 40L double tanks RM1350 + Ground Floor bathroom & kitchen 40L double tanks RM1350 = RM3480

Option 3 : Master bathroom 40L single tank RM780 + 2 bedrooms /Ground Floor bathroom & kitchen 60L double tanks RM1485 = RM2265

Option 4 : Centralised 100L tank RM3870
Options 2-4 are not inclusive of the installation of the hot water pipes. I was told that it could be from RM600-900 per point. While my earlier intention is to have the centralised version, it will very much depend on the piping charges. Hence I am more inclined towards Option 3, besides cheaper, there are only 2 storage tanks for the house and hopefully less to pay for the piping.

What do you think .. pls advise
*
did you check whether your house has all the necessary piping for centralized heated water?
centralized means copper piping going to all your long bath, shower, basin, kitchen sink, etc.....

if you gonna put in your own piping to make it really centralized, then might as well get solar (1st choice) or heat pump (2nd choice)
but if paying an exorbitant amount just for regular storage heaters is your choice, then so be it biggrin.gif
mind you, doing all the piping, you will need to redo all tiling as well and hacking etc....really big elephant just for hot water in a hot country.....LOL

well it probably wont have centralized piping
but most likely you have copper piping that is localized for each bathroom and they only go to the shower and long bath if you have one
you can easily check this -

1. look to see if you have a mixer (the knobs that controls the water)
2. take a look inside your plaster ceiling to see if there is a short copper pipe just above the showers

does your master bathroom have a long bath?

With our kind of hot hot hot rain hot hot&rain hot hot&rain weather no problem. Hot&Rain mean rain half day 1-2 hrs hot day is good enough to heat up the whole tank for the day or 2 days use.

My solar heating element ko after few years and did not replace also no problem. Sometime with 3 days continuous rain, on the last day using full hot water still comfortably warm. You just need 1 to 2 hrs of good sun for a day. When it is hot hot days for 3 continuous days the water is super hot. Need just move a little to hot say 1/5 hot 4/5 cold water. Aslso becasue our cold water is already on the high side, ie. 30 degree C, so need no much hot water mixed.

Imagine this:

A good warm shower is 38 degree C (our body temperature is 37 degree). one part hot water 80 degree mix 5 parts cold water at 30 degree (80+30x5)/6 =38.33 degree. It means you need only 1/6 of hot water mix. A 60 gallons hot water means you get 60 x 6 gallon of warm water for shower. Of course there is wastage in the storage losing heat and also cold water in hot pipe between showers.

Is my calculation correct?

A good hot water shower is 42 degree C. Still you get plenty. you do the calculation.

Sorry, There are mistakes in the assumption and calculation.

I re-calculate using different method. Assuming 90 degree C hot water in the tank, it is 1/4 hot and 3/4 cold to achieve a 37.5 degree warm water shower.

Anyway, in real world (not mathematics calculation), the heater continues getting heating up by the sun as you use during the day giving you endless supply and also the next morning it continues...Therefore, the above calculation applies to continuous raining/no sun days and night use.

I went to Homedec last Sat. There was one selling solar 66 gallons vacuum tube type at 3,800 inclusive of installation. I did not ask for warranty as i wasn't interested to buy cause i already got one. Usually they give you 10 yrs. So long as the co still survive you worry free for at least 10 yrs. The vacuum type can bring the temp up to 99 degree!

Installation means take up the heater to roof and connect to your cold and hot pipe. Not piping.

I like to say enough but if you like to take 30mins shower than maybe not enough lah. biggrin.gif
Even if not enough, the only penalty you need to pay is wait another 15mins or so for it to heat up another tankful. Really no big deal.

Not sure what you mean by sharing but if you want to use one tank for two bathrooms, it's possible if the bathroom are side by side. My old condo is set up this way and I had the plumber link both bathrooms to one tank. You must also understand that if you got two person taking showers at the same time in the separate bathrooms, you habis your hot water faster and may exhaust your 25L capacity

Of course need to mix with cold water. How to shower with 70C hot water? That's why it goes thru a mixer before you get it in your shower head.

If worry not enough, ma buy bigger tank lo....I already said it depends on your needs. The price difference between the various capacity is very little only. If you got a long bath, you need at least a 50L

You are right Idoblu. I basically just want to provoke Petlu and get him to imagine how much or how little is 25L using mineral water bottle so that he can visualise. icon_rolleyes.gif Cheers

Tell the boss to buy the 35L, I think just a hundred ringgit more. Too big also no good, takes longer to boil so makan letrik. Too small, water finish faster but heat up also faster biggrin.gif

Few years ago, I bought only Rm500+ for 35L
I bought all mine from paramax Puchong. I heard Top Ten light shop also got Joven.

If want to centralized it, need to consider where the on/off switch or plan to switch it on 24x7? I use individual storage per toilet, and each have its own switch. Smaller tank mean faster heat up, and save some energy because don't need to heat up larger quantity of water and not using 1/2 of it.
