QUOTE(odin140 @ Nov 13 2011, 08:22 PM) The Scirocco TSI is nice as long as you're aware that you'll pay over RM30k extra for it compared to the Golf TSI, which has the exact same gadgets, engine, gearbox and performance figures (and actually a slightly higher top speed).Malaysia is as far as I know the only country in the world where the Scirocco is more expensive - which is thanks to our gov's tax on 2 door cars. Elsewhere the Golf is around the same price or slightly more expensive than the Scirocco. Only plus points for Scirocco are the sexy looks and arguably better handling. Is that worth the artificially inflated price? You decide! |

There are a lot of small differences you will get out with the Scirocco as compared to the Golf which you will tend to notice. On the Scirocco you get stuff like the flat bottom steering wheel (this is worth around RM3k), the front disc rotors are the same size as the Golf GTI's at 312mm vs the Golf TSI's rotors at 286mm and the handling is a lot better. Also you get standard 17" rims versus the 16" rims on the Golf. Malaysia is as far as I know the only country in the world where the Scirocco is more expensive - which is thanks to our gov's tax on 2 door cars. Is that worth the artificially inflated price? You decide! In order for a Golf 1.4 to even come close to the Roc 1.4's handling, you need to change the springs and get a set of anti roll bars. Of course looks itself, personally I used to not like it but after a while, it sort of grows on you. Personally, I had more fun chucking the Golf TSI around in corners than in the Scirocco TSI; it felt more... likable. More lively, if that makes any sense. But the Golf's brakes are a little disappointing - like Mark mentioned, the one in the 'Roc are significantly better.
The 'Roc gets you attention, though. |

You can also argue that the Golf has four doors and four power windows, while the Scirocco only has two. What about DRL? Not sure if Scirocco comes with this (maybe it does). But whichever way you spin it, the Scirocco is still significantly overpriced in Malaysia. Logically speaking, it's impossible to justify paying RM30k more even with the larger rims, rotors, etc. The purchasing decision needs to be emotional e.g. you fall in love with the car's looks or you just really, really like the handling. |

QUOTE(omichael @ Nov 14 2011, 02:15 PM) If you're going to mention those kinds of differences, you might as well also point out that the Golf has cruise control, while the Scirocco does not. Your argument just comes from the fact that you are complaining about the government taxes which is definitely a key point but I am also stating the real fact as a Golf owner and the more I sit in a Scirocco, these differences do tend to hit you and make you consider the fact that these little differences do make a difference in terms of how you look at a car. You can also argue that the Golf has four doors and four power windows, while the Scirocco only has two. What about DRL? Not sure if Scirocco comes with this (maybe it does). If you want to complain about taxes and the justice of paying such a premium, you can forever argue that till the cows come home because taxes will be there and thats the way it is. Edit: Also from recent dyno figures, I tend to notice that for the Golf 1.4, on stock with Ron95, the average wheel horse power is around 153-155 depending on which brand of fuel you go for. For a Scirocco, the average tends to be higher, ranging from 158whp to the highest I have seen on a stock Scirocco 1.4 is 170whp. I have a feeling that some batches of Sciroccos 1.4 that came in to Malaysia was tuned higher as well (in the UK, the 1.4 TSI engines are tuned up to 180ps for both the Scirocco and Golf).
