Guys, the Audi TT engines is not the same as the Scirocco engines (post 2010 models that is) for those manufactured before 2010. After 2010, the Audi TT should be using the EA888 blocks.

Personally having driven a recon 2007 Audi TT and the Scirocco 2.0, the Scirocco is slightly faster. If power is what you want, then go with the Roc because a Stage 1.5 EA888 engine can already reach >400Nm of torque biggrin.gif

ohh.
So the R Led Light in malaysia is without rear fog?
Btw, stalkerrox,
How much you got your R Led Light?
*
The R lights found here has both the fog light and the reverse camera. Basically one side of the light shows the reverse camera and the other side shows the fog light.

Reverse camera? Is this something new cause I always tot that the reverse camera is housed at the VW emblem? I demand you tell me more!
*
Made a typo. Please read my post above.

There are two ways to install the reverse camera, one is as you say, via the VW emblem. The other is via where the license plate is located. Depends on the brand of camera you get, whether it may be a OEM VW part or a 3rd party version.

Hi all, I've written a short article on the Polo GTI here. Appreciate any constructive thoughts/comments so that I can improve!

Thanks in advance, folks!
*
Fantastic write up bro! Very detailed and loved all the pictures available.

QUOTE(omichael @ Nov 10 2011, 05:28 PM)
The Polo GTI seems like quite the game changer.

How to justify forking out an extra RM70k to buy a Golf GTI when the performance figures are identical? Is the bit of extra space really worth RM70k?
*
On paper you will see that the performance figures seem the same but for the enthusiast, the Golf GTI has a lot more potential than the Polo GTI because I would say that the 7-speed dry clutch gearbox is holding it back and of course there is the 1.4 engine (I have seen those crazy German fellas pull out 300bhp out of that 1.4 engine but of course on a manual gearbox).

If you do a very detailed comparison, the Polo GTI shares a lot more similarities with the Golf GTI Mk1 actually, in terms of size and weight. The current Golf GTI is like double the weight of that of the original GTI but of course this is due to the safety features.

I really did wish that VW would actually release a manual version of the Polo GTI thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

No, its actually my old Denver's sprayed and skimmed to look like Detroits. So it is still on 17" rim size. Wanting to go to 18" and have already been eyeing two different designs smile.gif

Fantastic pics as well, Mark. I think... I might have seen your car yesterday, in Seri Kembangan area? Had all the GTI cues, but no badge on the front, which was easy to remember... was that you?
*
Yes that was me! I was at Getto getting some stickers to put on the car. Now it looks a little bit more different as to how Broleo can attest to it tongue.gif

But actually I'm just curious as to how the Polo GTI is going to affect Golf GTI and TSI sales. And to us existing Golf owners, I wonder how it will affect our car's resale value.
*
Very very little affect mainly because of the worldwide shortage and availability of the Polo GTI.

Address is available here http://www.getto.com.my/

Its at the shop lots nearby Jaya Jusco in Equine Park.

Skimmed means skimmed as in a polish effect. Basically converting the Denvers to look like Detroits.

How much to skim it?

Depends on the shop you go to. I did mine at YR Auto in Kepong. I know Hup Shun in Sunway also provides this service. Can range from RM500-RM600 if I am not mistaken. Do note it will take them a couple of days to do it.

RM100 for both?

Yeah for front and back. Note that it isn't the usual type of plate where they stick numbers on it. The entire plate is a large sticker and then protected with a clear plastic.

The Scirocco TSI is nice as long as you're aware that you'll pay over RM30k extra for it compared to the Golf TSI, which has the exact same gadgets, engine, gearbox and performance figures (and actually a slightly higher top speed).

Malaysia is as far as I know the only country in the world where the Scirocco is more expensive - which is thanks to our gov's tax on 2 door cars. Elsewhere the Golf is around the same price or slightly more expensive than the Scirocco.

Only plus points for Scirocco are the sexy looks and arguably better handling. Is that worth the artificially inflated price? You decide!
*
There are a lot of small differences you will get out with the Scirocco as compared to the Golf which you will tend to notice. On the Scirocco you get stuff like the flat bottom steering wheel (this is worth around RM3k), the front disc rotors are the same size as the Golf GTI's at 312mm vs the Golf TSI's rotors at 286mm and the handling is a lot better. Also you get standard 17" rims versus the 16" rims on the Golf.

In order for a Golf 1.4 to even come close to the Roc 1.4's handling, you need to change the springs and get a set of anti roll bars. Of course looks itself, personally I used to not like it but after a while, it sort of grows on you.

The most complete GTI conversion I have seen so far!  thumbup.gif

Where did you get the black side skirt and the front bumper? What's the damage?
Did you mod your rear spoiler as well?
*
You can check out Exotic Mods. They have the full kit or you can also get them from GTI owners who bought a new bodykit and swapped out their old ones. For the full kit you also need the rear bumper, catback exhaust, and roof spoiler. Roof spoiler was obtained from http://modyourfast.easy.my

If you're going to mention those kinds of differences, you might as well also point out that the Golf has cruise control, while the Scirocco does not.

You can also argue that the Golf has four doors and four power windows, while the Scirocco only has two.

What about DRL? Not sure if Scirocco comes with this (maybe it does).

But whichever way you spin it, the Scirocco is still significantly overpriced in Malaysia.

Logically speaking, it's impossible to justify paying RM30k more even with the larger rims, rotors, etc. The purchasing decision needs to be emotional e.g. you fall in love with the car's looks or you just really, really like the handling.
*
Your argument just comes from the fact that you are complaining about the government taxes which is definitely a key point but I am also stating the real fact as a Golf owner and the more I sit in a Scirocco, these differences do tend to hit you and make you consider the fact that these little differences do make a difference in terms of how you look at a car.

If you want to complain about taxes and the justice of paying such a premium, you can forever argue that till the cows come home because taxes will be there and thats the way it is.

Edit: Also from recent dyno figures, I tend to notice that for the Golf 1.4, on stock with Ron95, the average wheel horse power is around 153-155 depending on which brand of fuel you go for. For a Scirocco, the average tends to be higher, ranging from 158whp to the highest I have seen on a stock Scirocco 1.4 is 170whp. I have a feeling that some batches of Sciroccos 1.4 that came in to Malaysia was tuned higher as well (in the UK, the 1.4 TSI engines are tuned up to 180ps for both the Scirocco and Golf).

Slightly better, got accessories to view, can also go on a few rides hehehehe biggrin.gif

Best of all, you get to hear the good and the bad from the owners themselves. We had a few fellas join us who have been undecided on which car to buy (e.g. Roc vs GTI or Polo vs Golf) and after speaking to owners and even going for a test drive in their cars, it definitely gives you a better understanding of the car and the good and the bad of it.

the other day when my dad brought my mom's passat cc for service, he said he had placed a booking for the 2012 beetle. he claimed that the sa told him that the pricing would be similar to the scirocco 2.0. anyone of you heard of anyone placing booking for the 2012 beetle?
*
Yeah my SA was taking booking orders as well for the Beetle 2012. Well according to my SA, the unconfirmed pricing could be in the range of RM130k (for the 1.2 TSI version) up till around RM210k (for the 2.0 TSI version). No final confirmation of the price and the price is also subject to change thanks to our wonderful customs department who might just decide to raise the taxes for these cars.

Why not post OTR prices inclusive insurance and registration for all models?
*
The prices are in the first post, have to thank phaser for putting those up smile.gif

OTR prices can vary especially since you determine how much you want to insure your car for as well as how much NCB/NCD you might have to carry forward as well as whether you want to insure your windscreen or not.
