Hi all, I've written a short article on the Polo GTI here. Appreciate any constructive thoughts/comments so that I can improve!

Thanks in advance, folks!

I had a comparison test between the Golf and Polo GTI, and the only thing the Polo lacked (at least in my opinion) was space. Other than that, I loved that supermini!

Btw, I've heard that a couple of Polo GTIs have already been delivered.

Thanks for all the comments folks. Really appreciate it. And yes, to be fair, there is a reason for the RM80k gap between a Polo and Golf GTI. The money obviously goes somewhere! But, bang for buck, the Polo GTI certainly comes out on top!

Fantastic pics as well, Mark. I think... I might have seen your car yesterday, in Seri Kembangan area? Had all the GTI cues, but no badge on the front, which was easy to remember... was that you?

Btw - I'm working on getting a Scirocco R and Golf R to review as well; will keep you guys posted in here.

Btw, I did want to do a Polo GTI v/s Golf GTI comparison, but VW no longer had any stock of the Golf GTI; not even one as a demo car!

In all honesty, though... I do not think that the Polo GTI will affect the sales of Golf models. While my heart tells me to go for the Polo GTI, my mind knows that (if I had the money!) I would go for the Golf.Preferably in GTI guise tongue.gif

Looks like you were one of the lucky one who were able to take delivery of their Polo GTI. And yes; seems like the F10 should be your daily driver instead of the Polo GTI tongue.gif

Personally, I had more fun chucking the Golf TSI around in corners than in the Scirocco TSI; it felt more... likable. More lively, if that makes any sense. But the Golf's brakes are a little disappointing - like Mark mentioned, the one in the 'Roc are significantly better.

The 'Roc gets you attention, though.

Any consumer who doesn't do their due diligence prior to purchasing a new car... is called a stupid consumer. Plenty of manufacturers include both OTR prices with and without insurance, VW included. You simply have to ask for it.

If anyone isn't bothered to ask, then they're either not interested, or not smart enough.

Crystal clear. Just a heads up, though - better to ask the folks at VW; their number provided by Mark several posts earlier.

Can't believe he tries to stir shit up everywhere he goes. No idea who's calling him stupid, either.

In any case, here's a picher:

I might be picking up a Golf R tomorrow for a review. Will update in here if I manage to get that done.

Just to alleviate confusion; no, the Golf R is not out yet. You won't be seeing any at your local VW showroom. The one I'll be reviewing (if I get it) will be a grey market unit.

laugh.gif I wrote a small article on ZTH and on my blog as well.

To be honest; I didn't really have much time with either of them. I drove the 'Roc along the MEX towards Putrajaya, but the roads were a little damp, and there was some amount of traffic. Still, I was able to hit 160mph (yes, I know its supposed to be limited to 155mph) with ease. There was a hint of torque steer when you plant your foot into the accelerator at standstill, and I would 'blame' this on the FWD format of the Scirocco R.

With the Golf, I had even less time. It was getting very late (1AM!) so I drove towards Mont Kiara, and made a u-turn hitting the Kerinchi link, onto Federal. Even with shortage of tarmac, I hit 140mph... but most impressive was the cornering ability; AWD and XDS seems to have given the Golf R superpowers or something...

Between the two, it is no contest for me. I would take the Golf R home.

I have a feeling that the Golf Rs will be in showrooms from late Nov to early Dec. Otherwise, VW will have some trouble trying to sell 2011 cars in 2012...

The pictures were taken at the Oschersleben race track in Germany, where DTM and Scirocco R Cup races are held.

Definitely wasn't easy; both driving and whilst taking pictures! Still, had a lot of good fun! Will have a proper write-up and more pics on ZTH soon.
