I had a comparison test between the Golf and Polo GTI, and the only thing the Polo lacked (at least in my opinion) was space. Other than that, I loved that supermini!

Btw, I've heard that a couple of Polo GTIs have already been delivered.

The Polo GTI seems like quite the game changer.

How to justify forking out an extra RM70k to buy a Golf GTI when the performance figures are identical? Is the bit of extra space really worth RM70k?

the only sameX2 thing is the 0 to 100 only..the rest is a different class of vehicle alltogether...

I will let the rest share with you in term of ride, space, bhp, stability, feel, potential small tweak to add 40bhp + 120nm, R lights, gadgetry etc etc.
*
Not everyone is able to appreciate R lights, handling, mod potential, etc. To the average car buyer the perception will be that they now have an option to get close to Golf GTI-level performance at a MUCH cheaper price, even cheaper than a Golf TSI.

It's these kinds of people who may question the need to fork out an extra RM70k for the Golf GTI. It's a lot of money bro, you could put a downpayment on two houses with that...

But actually I'm just curious as to how the Polo GTI is going to affect Golf GTI and TSI sales. And to us existing Golf owners, I wonder how it will affect our car's resale value.

Hey guys! Congrats on the v5. Any comments or feedbacks bout the scirocco 1.4 TSI? smile.gif
*
The Scirocco TSI is nice as long as you're aware that you'll pay over RM30k extra for it compared to the Golf TSI, which has the exact same gadgets, engine, gearbox and performance figures (and actually a slightly higher top speed).

Malaysia is as far as I know the only country in the world where the Scirocco is more expensive - which is thanks to our gov's tax on 2 door cars. Elsewhere the Golf is around the same price or slightly more expensive than the Scirocco.

Only plus points for Scirocco are the sexy looks and arguably better handling. Is that worth the artificially inflated price? You decide!

There are a lot of small differences you will get out with the Scirocco as compared to the Golf which you will tend to notice. On the Scirocco you get stuff like the flat bottom steering wheel (this is worth around RM3k), the front disc rotors are the same size as the Golf GTI's at 312mm vs the Golf TSI's rotors at 286mm and the handling is a lot better. Also you get standard 17" rims versus the 16" rims on the Golf.

In order for a Golf 1.4 to even come close to the Roc 1.4's handling, you need to change the springs and get a set of anti roll bars. Of course looks itself, personally I used to not like it but after a while, it sort of grows on you.
If you're going to mention those kinds of differences, you might as well also point out that the Golf has cruise control, while the Scirocco does not.

You can also argue that the Golf has four doors and four power windows, while the Scirocco only has two.

What about DRL? Not sure if Scirocco comes with this (maybe it does).

But whichever way you spin it, the Scirocco is still significantly overpriced in Malaysia.

Logically speaking, it's impossible to justify paying RM30k more even with the larger rims, rotors, etc. The purchasing decision needs to be emotional e.g. you fall in love with the car's looks or you just really, really like the handling.

I've also seen many Toyotas, Hondas, Beemers, Mercs, Protons, Peroduas, etc. stalled on the road. So should we avoid all of those too? Maybe start riding bicycles instead?

Don't know if this has been discussed, but about the new software update for all 1.4 TSI VWs:

I've heard the rumors about this update reducing the car's power output, so I asked the service agent at Wearnes Sg Besi. According to him, it's true - the torque is reduced in an effort to improve reliability, although "you won't feel the difference".

Still kinda sucks that an update ends up giving you a weaker car.

Has anyone ever tried one of those cheapo made in Taiwan RM1000+ bodykits for their Golf?

There are quite a few on Mudah, just wondering about the durability and fit compared to ori bodykits:

Hi guys, im 24 and i've only come into the society like 2 years plus, make enough money for survival and also saving,

my dream car is the Scirocco, even only for the 1.4 TSI, but i wonder with my current income, is it possible to own a Scirocco of my own? i make 4 almost to 5k a month currently.

i've heard the salesman in VW saying that, the 1.4 and 2.0TSI will be discontinued and it is very hard to find them brand new now, as only the R is available, make me feel no hope alrdy, rocco R is like what? 280k, imposible for me T.T......

any feed back seniors? thank you.
*
It's tempting, but with your income you'll need to stretch out your loan to 9 years and end up paying a ton of interest.

Some people will give you the excuse that "life is too short, so you should go for it". Bur remember that buying this car and using more than half your income to pay for it will cripple your savings, affect your lifestyle, and delay you from buying an even better car in the future.

Financial advisors often say you should never spend more than 15 - 20% of your income on car payments - which means it's not ideal for anyone earning below RM15k to drive a Scirocco, even if they can get a loan for it.

My opinion: buy a cheaper car first. Save up your cash. Then after a few of years, when your income is higher, sell off the cheap car and buy a Scirocco R straight thumbup.gif

hehe.. agree with zweimmk. its all depend on your downpayment. Rocco 1.4 roughly 192k right inclusive insurance with 55%NCB.

if u pay downpayment about RM100k, that will make u pay monthly RM1k for 9 years. with int rate 2.4% of course..  oh gosh.

btw, is it true 1.4 and 2.0TSI will be discontinued? or just marketing gimmick. its just.. too weird.
*
The 1.4 is definitely getting discontinued. VW has issued a statement saying it is too expensive to produce. Some people speculate that the real reason is because it's too unreliable.

If I'm not mistaken, the 2.0 TSI will also be replaced when the Golf MK7 gets launched next year with the new MQB platform. But not 100% sure on that one.
