Quantum is really so good. my two Quantum Fireball Plus 20 GB still running without any bad sector. THey have operated for six years biggrin.gif

another Quantum 2 GB (old harddisk nowadays) also still okay, but it has too small cache, less than 1 MB cache.

I really missed the Quantum which had drew away from consumer harddisk. They now only focused on the enterprise solution such as SCSI harddisk.

anyone can tell me which harddisk can stand longer than 5 years? I hope that all my harddisk including new 80 GB WD PATA will not give any problem within several years

just want to share this link with u all smile.gif ---> http://hddguru.com/

Nowaday, Quantum focused only on enterprise solution such as SSCI harddisk.

they drew away from consumer harddisk, such as ur PATA type harddisk.

Just to let everyone know (in case they didn't read today's Intech):

Those with WD drives bought from March 2001 - 15 Feb 2006 can claim for free backup software from WD. Might be useful to some. smile.gif
I just applied for mine. They'll send a link via e-mail.

http://www.wdc.com/settlement.

Valid WD HDD serial number required.

Hey guys, just thought I'd share this with all of you.

Bought a new Seagate 250GB hard drive from Low Yat last week. Installed it the next day and it just wouldn't work. I think it was just my luck that I got the 1 faulty drive in the whole shipment. Anyway, went to their website, put in an RMA and sent my hard drive to the centre in Menara Summit. Received a receipt confirmation email 2 days later (sent it on a Friday) and still didn't get a replacement after another 2 days. I sent in a complaint to Seagate Malaysia and they forwarded it to the regional manager. That was yesterday. Today, the regional manager emailed me to say that the drive I bought was currently out of stock and it would take another 2 weeks to get new stock. So, he offered me a 400GB hard drive in exchange!! Now happily waiting for new 400 GB hard drive to arrive. biggrin.gif Not bad... pay for 250GB get 400Gb and their customer service is excellent, normally only takes 4-5 days and if longer or no stock, they give you a better one. I'm now a strong supporter of Seagate. Seagate for life!!
