You have to go to that particular branch that you opened the account.
1. Go to the branch.
2. Say you want to close down this account.
3. request for new basic savings account without fee or RM 8 annual. I took without fee because I don't use atm at all.
4. Tell them to transfer your account balance to new account.

If they ask you to take debit card, tell them you don't need a debit card.

If they bising-bising say you need to take debit card, show them this (under fees and charges):

HeHeHunter, did they bug you with lots of "why"s? When I opened this account, there were lots of "why"s fired at me ("WHY you want to open this account", "WHY do you open an account at this bank" & etc.) - if they did, what did you tell them to make them allow your account type to be changed? I'd be pissed to no end if they start spamming me with lots of "why", "why", "why" again. Also, does the normal Savings Account / AirAsia Savers Account cannot use ATM cards? Why do you need to change your account type when you cancel your debit card?
iXora.ix, did you manage to successfully change your account to basic savings account? Were there any charges incurred?

I tried changing CIMB AirAsia Savers Account to Basic Savings Account 1, which is the one with charges for every transactions per month above threshold (6 OTC transactions and 8 ATM transactions). As I almost never use this bank for any transactions, I am attempting to dodge this RM 15 CIMB PMPC Annual Fee. I was informed that the RM 15 CIMB PMPC Annual Fee applies to the Mastercard debit card that I currently hold (and barely used), not the AirAsia Savers account.

Note that the CIMB AirAsia Savers Account is a statement-only account with no passbook.

1. Does this mean that I can opt to cancel my Mastercard debit card without changing my CIMB AirAsia Savers Account to Basic Savings Account 1?

2. I tried to change my CIMB Mastercard debit card to a normal ATM card, but they refused my request, quoting "Nobody uses ATM card anymore". Do they have the right to refuse my request? Do I have a right to request for the cancellation of the card?
I remembered something about my rights to stop using the card anytime, cut the card in half and return it to bank if I cease to agree to the conditions stipulated in the agreement, but I can't check the agreement since CIMB refused to provide me with a copy of the agreement I signed (unlike Public Bank). Can anyone please check?

3. Does the CIMB ATM card come with an annual charge?

I currently hold 7 different debit cards, but I've never tried HongLeong debit card. If you'd like to compare BSN and Public Bank debit cards, I'd say it would depend a lot on your spending patterns. Do you spend heavily on online transactions / e-commerce and payWave transactions, or do you usually spend more on petrol and groceries (things like cabbage, chicken liver and soy sauce)? BSN offers 0.5% cashback on all retail purchases, and frequently has special promotions for online transactions, where all online transactions (e-commerce) and payWave transactions will be given an additional 5% cashback. Public Bank rarely, if not never, has any noteworthy promotions going on, but it offers a slightly higher cashback for petrol and grocery spendings, at 0.8%, capped at RM 30 monthly. In short:
Online purchases? BSN.
payWave transactions? BSN.
Petrol? Public Bank.
Groceries? Public Bank.
Clothings and accessories? BSN.
Electronic equipment? BSN.
IT gadgets? BSN.
Bills? Any. To the best of my knowledge, no banks offer cashback for bill payment.

They did asked me why I want to change my card, I just say I do not wish to pay RM 15 debit card which I do not use. Heck if they could give me a bank account without annual fee and without ATM card is alright for me, but they said in order for me to apply online banking I need at least ATM card.

Note: you cannot change your account type because your debit card is tied to your savings account. You need to close the account and apply another savings account with ATM card.

Easy. I go to my branch, then I say I want to close my account. Later on they will ask, why close? I only said, wanna change account type. After they close the acc, you will get the remaining balance and no charge occur.
After back, go to the one in front of counter, said, you wanna open BASIC saving.

oh, regarding BSN debit card, it's good? brows.gif

Agree. What a lousy back. I open cimb only because my sponsorship (MARA) use this bank to credit the money. Else, I already close down the account sweat.gif

BSN Debit Card is pretty good for online transactions. I always use it for gaming purchases, as well as booking for air tickets and hotel rooms. A 5% cashback might not be available all the time, though: You have to pay attention to the promotions going on. The last two promotion period was from Mar 2014 to Jun 2014, and from Jul 2014 to Sep 2014. Please also do note that the 5% special cashback is capped at RM30 per promotion period.

I think as a consumer we have a right to request for ATM Card. Heck, they charge RM15 for debit card and RM8 for ATM card. if they charge RM8 like EVERY other bank, i wouldn't have cared. BTW, if they refuse your 'change' request, i think you can 'cancel' your debit card, then apply for 'new' atm card, right?

anyway, i found this agreement (googling).

cimb debit mastercard agreement

Nothing fancy about HLB Debit Card, at least they don't charge RM15. they used to have a point rewards system that was cancelled end of last year. I heard that they waive the RM8 annual fee if there's xxx amount transaction using the debit card, not sure if it's still applicable.

Archmage Warlic, Currently I only use Public Bank Visa Electron.
https://www.pbebank.com/Personal-Banking/Ca...a-Electron.aspx

Good:
Annual fee RM 24 can be waived with 12 transactions
Cash rebate 0.5% all purchase except petrol and etc.
Standalone account instead of linked with savings. Good for security and minimalise impact on unauthorized charges.
Unlimited withdrawals.

Bad:
ATM available at branches only.
RM 10 per withdrawal from other banks ATM (MEPS only RM1)

Just that got your name on the card. Looks more like a credit card. People do not know that is actually a debit card actually. Very classy but too many disadvantages it seems.

Name on a Debit Card might be important feature if you want to use Malaysia's issued Debit card in Australia... master or visa... The cashier there will ask question why the card you present to them, has no name on the card..

From my expirience, for car rental in australia they need credit card as security deposit... but i managed to use CIMB e.Mastercard debit since it has my name on the card... I claimed it is a credit card.. huhu... they pre-auth deposit amount of 200AUD without problem.. after two weeks i returned the car, my money back available in the card account... But i pay the actual car rental fee using cash ! Card without names on the card strictly not accepted... huhu sweat.gif
