I don't think you can subscribe unless you live in the UK...
Btw, does anyone know how many issues there will be in total?
I saw the preview for the 2nd and 3rd issues, and...with the amount of parts they give, I'm afraid it may turn out to be 50 issues or something, which is a turn-off even though the model is awesome...

Some say there will be 65...some say there will be 75 issues. Whatever it is, the cost will be enormous. Don't forget that on the 3rd book onwards, the price will be RM29.90. Promotion price will be on the first two issues only.

But there might be a subscription form in the magazine itself. Am hoping to get my hands on the first issue.

the link is fine smile.gif
just assembled my first issue, detail is awesome and i think its worth the price for a 1:8 model
so if there's 65 issues, 4 issues per month, its gonna take 1 year 4 months shocking.gif

lets get a build diary started here thumbup.gif

maybe im surfing on iPad cant access

for Malaysia case, i have doubts abt 1 issue per week
cos i saw the 1st issue for 2 weeks+ d n still no sign of 2nd issue

n theres risk of not having all issues, as i experienced b4 with other type similar magazine
halfway thru they stop bringing in due to lack of sales doh.gif

Actually it's 85 issues. (from UK models forums)
1st issue = RM9.90
2nd = RM19.90
3rd-85th = RM29.90

It comes 4 times a month

I have subscribe through their website (but dunno how long I'm gonna subscribe). Note that if you subscribe you'll get
Free
1. Next issue (if you start issue 2, you'll get free issue 3)
2. McLaren cap
3. Steering 1/4 scale replica
4. Book Binder

Even if I subscribe 8-9 issues only, if I can complete the front parts of the car, it's fine. I can display the front parts only. whistling.gif

I was about to start the topic, luckily i found this thread. I'm collecting too. Can we have a namelist of the collectors shall we? thumbup.gif

Btw, I already subscribed for Issue 2 and 3 via the website and paid RM29.90. Do I get all the freebies when my delivery come or just the cap?

If you check their website, your first delivery you'll received the free cap/free issue. 2nd received the binder, 3rd = the steering replica.

Think of it, a McLaren cap for RM19.90? brows.gif

I think that's it. Got 'scammed' a bit by the ad on their brochures that if you subscribe you'll get all of them. sweat.gif

So for my first subscription (Issue 2 free Issue 3), I'll get only the cap right? Then for my next subscription I'll get the binder and so on? unsure.gif

BTW, in UK, you'll get free McLaren keychain with the 5th issue. Steering in 10th issue.

QUOTE

The biggest risk of not subscribing is what General_Nic said...shops may stop bringing in issues...
The free steering wheel and cap (if only it said Jenson!) is a nice enticement for subscribing though...
But damn, I didn't know it'd be RM29.90 after the 2nd issue!
That's RM2,511.50 at the end of it all for a 1:8!

When it's 85 issues for the entire car, it feels more like it'll be waiting in dread for 1yr+ instead of excitement tongue.gif

@Sauron76: That nosecone and front wing is only gonna take you 3 issues, so that's ok...you'll be left with one side of the front suspension, a wheel and a tire though...

I just got an email of confirmation from Allscript staff. I'm asking her whether with the paid RM29.90 I can get all the freebies together with my Issue 2 and Issue 3 or not.

She did state there that I have a balance of RM169.40.. Not sure why is that.. Awaiting clarification..

Bro, from their email, if pay through online banking or cheque, you need to pay for 8 issues. If pay by credit card, it's paid per issue.

I think.. I already paid RM29.90 for Issue 2 with free Issue 3. The statement somehow said I need to pay RM169.40 more (total RM199.40 for Issue 2 till 9 with all the freebies)..

Nope. I just want to subscribe the Issue 2 only since on the paper brochure it said "subscribe Issue 2 and you'll get Issue 3 for free plus free 3 items!".. Seems it's not the way it is.. Seems like I have to subscribe a minimum of 8 issues totaling RM199.30 because I pay using online transfer.. sweat.gif Anyway, I do intend to complete all the series.. But my priority is the freebies, get them all first, after that buy from Popular also can.. biggrin.gif

well, if you calculate the first two issues at 29.90 (9.90 + 19.90) and the rest at 29.90...yeah, you are saving a little - about 10 bucks. But you do get all the goodies and a free issue. So this promotion is a good thing for collectors.

Do you have the terms and conditions for the subscription?

Yeah, the saving is one thing, but the freebies is kinda premium on its own.. smile.gif AFAIK, if you opt to pay via online banking/transfer like me, you have to at least subscribe to 8 issues per subscription.. The first 8 issues not including Issue 1 calculation are as follows..

Issue 2 - Issue 9 = RM199.30
Issue 10 - Issue 17 & per 8 issues onwards = RM239.20

Hope that helps..

come to think of it, 1/8 scale would be quite big, no? And completing such a beaut, well, having it completed itself is an achievement. Do keep posting here, I don't have the bullets for it, but I'm interested to see it get completed laugh.gif

Was into it when they launched it earlier in the year... but then they stopped at #5 because of some dispute (?).
#1-4 should let you complete the nose cone and the front wheels.

Was into it when they launched it earlier in the year... but then they stopped at #5 because of some dispute (?).
#1-4 should let you complete the nose cone and the front wheels.

Nice collection there bro. nod.gif I did asked them, and they said the earlier release is just to test the market. Don't know if that's the real reason.

I hope the really re-launch it for real this time cause this 1/8 scale is freaking awesome and I desperately want it! But those issue 1 available at the store now all look like od stock, like they wanna clear.

I subscribed already last time, even visited the All Script office personally but I wonder if I need to subscribe again for the freebies. Haih

Hope that helps..

can we confirm that credit card payers will only be charged as the issue is released and delivered?
and the free issue through subscription...is it only issue #2...or your next issue as in if you subscribe for issue #5, issue #6 will be free?

Nope. Only if you subscribe starting from Issue 2 then Issue 3 will be free. If you stop at Issue 3, then some later time you subscribe again, you'll not get the next issue for free. That's what the staff brief me yesterday through a call.

That's Amalgam bro. This F1 is Kyosho. Amalgam's 1:8 car cost around 15K.

In F1 world, Amalgam is more like Vettel while Kyosho is probably Renault driver.

Based on the content of the issue posted by Aeon, seems like you have to keep buying until Issue 7. Issue 8 will then only stop discussing on the nose cone and cover the brakes technology.

If not because of the free gift I wouldnt subscribe loh! becos of their efficiency as Ive been to their office, haih. I rather hunt/reserve it from shopping mall. Another thing is the reliabiiity and the way our local postage service handle parcel. Haih

So I already subscribed when they first launched their first 4 issues last year so I wonder if I need to subscribe again this time and so I called them yesterday.

And I was told that in order to get the free gift I need to subscribe from issue 5 till issue 8(since I already got 4 issues). So I email them my latest credit card details. But the email turned out invalid. Called again, gave me another email, also invalid one. Haih... So? By that time already 5 plus and I busy closing my work liao.

Gonna call again on monday.

I admit, the model parts look intimidating, and nice too! Luckily I asked the seller about the incoming issues and price. I wouldn't mind if it takes about 8-10 issues to complete, but up to 60/70 plus plus, it won't make sense. Last time we used to have a magazine with plane model as their free gift, and they got stopped, but i heard the subscribers got all their subscriptions copies.

2nd issue will be released on 6th October... 3rd issue a week after.. just check with the news stand nearby...

huhu... for those who subscribe including me, will receive 1st delivery consisting issue 2 until issue 5 by end of October... haih... with the freebies (cap)... that is what allscript customer service told me
*
cannot trust news stands...better to ask big shops like Popular or MPH.

Allscript is basically waiting for the caps before they send out their...our magazines. And based on this, our 2nd freebie will come with issue 9-13 and the mini steering wheel will come with another batch of magazines. Though I'm sure they need to wait for the goods to arrive before sending them out. I just made my subscription yesterday...a bit late...hopefully they don't run out of freebies tongue.gif

Yup2. Better to check with major news stand like Popular better.. Those parts are indeed solid and convincing. I had a chance to look at 2nd issue yesterday, it comes with your first tire. The tire sure is big.... sweat.gif I thought as big as 50cents coin only... laugh.gif

maybe...hopefully none of these parts get broken (touch wood) when fixing them together. Actually I was thinking of buying extra copies of the front wing just for display tongue.gif but there are just too many issues for the front wing alone

please keep ONLY discussion about the Magazine in here and NOT discussing about your other F1 collection in this thread...

theres already an existing F1 thread to show off your other F1 collection....

i will remove those unrelated to the "Build Your Own McLaren" Magazine talks after this

thanks

the instructions says that you'll need both the tamiya cement, and super glue

be VERY careful with the glue, it'll strip the paint off your model,
i learnt it the hard way, luckily just the underside was affected sad.gif

i already subscribe to their website but without any confirmation payment. it only stated they will contact in 2 days is it how they work or i need to call / fax them personally?

it's better we assmble along the way rather than wait. if anything screw up we still can get back the parts immediately or else the whole car will be spoilt.

I think you should call their staff personally and confirm the payment. When you call them, they just ask the name of the bank account holder. They will confirm to you on the spot whether they have receive it or not.

Don't think any real carbon vinyl sheets suit the toys. The pattern will look larger than normal. Why don't you guys find it at local/online toyshop for the carbon decals. We do have several of them in LYN as well.

I always go for these two:

so tempted to build this 1/8 model... but the overall cost is still keeping me away from it... regardless of the freebies given. it's still a 50-50 smile.gif

anyway there's this offer in myemail.my for the subsciption. 5% discount so i guess you will save about 100 bucks if you subscribe from there. better than no discount at all right? hehe

2. Which one is the best way to subscribe? By the form provided or any online way?

3. Anyone had spotted Issue 3 on local bookstore?

For best super glue in the world, use "AlLTECO 110" Superglue. Never dries out after opening. Just remember to seal them tightly in ziplock after use. Will last over 6 months. If not you'll have to buy a new glue everytime a new issue comes out, or wait til you collect all parts.

I subscribed way back last year when they first release. I called them just now to see if my subscription still enforce. However, I did received issue 4 last year for free, but when they sent that, it came with a notice that they will discontinue for the moment, however when they re-released, they will hand me issue 5 for free again.

So, again, those of you who subscribed and paid via credit card, they will charge you every month with 4 issues cost. For example, they will sent you issue 5 - 8, only when issue 8 is available. Which means, those who do not subscribed and buy from bookstore, will get issue 5 - 8 faster than those subscribed.

So the next batch of subscribers will received 4 issues + free gift.

I just bought 1, 2 & 3 also. I love this kinda thing, building stuff with my hands. And for it to be a F1 car, that's just a bonus. If only it were a Schuey championship winning car... bnut nvm, this is good enough.

When is 4 coming out?

You better be fast. You may ask any Popular if they have back stock or not. Some small retailers still have unsold previous issue. Go go go! tongue.gif

yeah about that...do you have one photo of the whole assembly?
or the parts still cannot fit together yet...coz if I'm not mistaken, the front suspension should be 2nd issue?
I've reached my limit of photographs on the 1st post...

5th issue already out? I only have 1st and 2nd from my local bookstore here in Kuching.

Still inside box unopen but very tempted but I don't like halfway job. Prefer to have all my parts like building Gundam kits.

yes, I got the same email.

anyway guys, please calm down. They did request 28 days to process which I am sure we can accept. And the thing about waiting for hat is most likely true as I got the same excuse...and that was before I made payment.

I don't mind getting them through subscription since I don't have to worry about bookstores having no stock, stock coming in late, they don't sell it in this bookshop, etc. Just have to worry about condition of magazine & car parts when it arrives. But even if its damaged, Zurina did mention that we can request for a 1-to-1 change. So its not a problem.

VincC454 has been a customer of them for Titanic and the planetary magazine and he doesn't have any complaints...and we all know how big his Titanic are smile.gif

I think they got quite a good respond on the subscriptions and are sorting things out for the moment. Some are current subscribers, some are last year subscribers like me.

Think we should start building up now. Otherwise when the part comes in rapidly, then we will be damm busy. biggrin.gif ... at least you can put more effort to assemble with each issues release and you got time to do it nicely.

Courier fee RM30 for issue 3 - 9. 1 issue is given "free" as they said so average down around RM29.80 per issue including courier fees. 7 issues RM179.40. yawn.gif

Least its reasonable but really turn off sometimes wanna subscribe stuff, always got extra charge to send to east side. Even Doraemon book + RM2 for shipping per book. Become RM7 per book. Go bookstore buy cheaper. Bleh! doh.gif

Thanks for the offer bro. They do sell it here. I asked the bookstore owner, he said 2 weeks they send 1 set. So literally I'll be behind. We only have issue 1 and 2 here atm while you guys are already seeing 3rd and 4th?

I've subscribed with allscript already. Just checked with them today. They got my fax already. So, next comes the torturous waiting. rclxms.gif

Since we both also already got first 4 issues last year and hence I told them to send me from 5th issues onwards.

Yup...when i got my free issue 4 last year, it came along with a letter stating of temporary discontinue, however once they resumed, they will sent issue 5 as free also as complimentary issue. Lucky i still keep this letter. I am gonna carbon fibred the issue 4 suspension later.

I got up to issue 5

checkout the size of these tyres...I feel like getting another 2nd issue just to remake one of Hamilton's many tyre failure laugh.gif

but its also quite cheeky of them to put so many parts for Issues 1, 2, 3...then small parts for issue 4, and 5...

AFAIK, MPH kinda 'not' participating in distributing the magazines. Popular has more subtle promotion..

I want to wait till all parts received then only spend one whole day assembling it.. tongue.gif

1) are you sure you can wait that long?
2) are you sure one whole day is enough brows.gif

I expect it to take several days, maybe over a week to complete this model from scratch to finish.
I'm trying to setup a workstation for this model before I start anything...dun wanna have missing screws or parts...

hahhaa...ya...u wont finish that in 1 day. it take several days to assemble. Imagine when you have over 70 packing on the floor, it will be a mess. Better start doing this, maybe 5 issue by 5 issue to assemble.

Picked up issue 5 in Kino KLCC this earlier this evening.

Also, for a cheap set of precision screwdrivers that are better than the cheap soft one supplied with the kit, Daiso sells a set with #00 Philips head for RM5.

Sigh, done already. 5 mins, now gotta wait another week. Maybe I should collect 5 issues then work on it... but I don't think I have the patience to leave it for more than a month.

Issue 7 - Contains front wheel shafts, upright bases, suspension covers & wing stays; and has instruction for attaching of the front suspension covers & front wing stays to the nose, and attaching the nose to the front wing.

Attaching the front suspension covers - Carefully cut the right and left suspension covers off the sprue, and scrape the paint from the inner (flat) surfaces.

Take the nose section and scrape paint in a small area around the suspension cover mount hole on either side of the nose, check that the covers fit well and be mindful not to scrape paint outside of the suspension cover profile; apply glue and add the suspension covers.

Attaching the front wing stays to the nose - Carefully cut the right and left wing stay from the sprue, note that each stay is marked 'R' and 'L' for the right and left side, and upon installation that the letter faces to the inside.
Gently scrape the paint from the indicated areas of each stay and also from the flat surfaces of the nose where the stays fix to, sparingly apply ABS glue and fix together.

Attaching the nose section to the front wing - Take the front wing assembly and match up to the ends of the wing stays of the nose for a dry fit of the fixing process, then disassemble and sparingly apply ABS glue at the fixing points, and hold the assembly together with masking tape, then set aside for the glue to fully dry.

That's it for this issue, carefully store the nose section and remaining parts.

They will not allow we finish the whole front wing untill half the issue. Because they know lotsa people will go "I only want to complete the front wing and make a display box for it". laugh.gif

So, we have to assemble bit by bits just for the front wing itself.. sweat.gif

yes, Tamiya cement is suitable. Just be careful when you apply because its different from other types of adhesive and might damage your model if done wrongly.

just follow the tips from the magazine...its the proper ways alr

super glue never damage the model paint but leave those white residue if applied too much (follow the tips then you be fine)

cement/tamiya cement do damage the paint or decal if you not careful

the best tips is to applied these glue tiny bit only...cement/super glue just need a tiny drop to make them stick together.

tamiya or mrhobby cement are the same...they both strip paint as they are thinner base
they are not strong for metal or wood...but they do strong on plastic

for the metal parts, cement are not suitable for it as it wont really stick or even if it stick it wont last

can actually even that the instruction ask you to use both
super glue and cement

if you read the instruction...metal parts they asked you to use super glue and plastic are asked to use cement

im not trying to scared or sound so stress about this but try to have fun building it...

im a modeller....i understand most of these glues, paints and thinners...if you be careful, follow the instruction and tips from the book and never over applied the glues...then you should be fine....

Hi, I plan to subscribe to this magazine and start building the McLaren. I've read that two types of glues are required, ABS glue and super glue (correct me if I'm wrong). What brand of these glues do you guys use and where can I obtain it if they're available locally? Thanks.

You know, the more issue they bundle into a shipment batch, it gives us disadvantage, because we had to subscribe more for the other freebies..

You know right, first shipment; cap. Second shipment; binder. Third shipment; streering. So, if they bundle all your subscribtion in one go, they just have to ship you one freebies..

My conspiracy theory correct or not? hmm.gif

no...

if they bundle all up like that means they bundle all free gift together....
if they bundle means they delayed in sending your magazine on time so most of the time they will send all your free gift according to your issues number

this is why i remind to applied just a tiny bit of super glue...
(squeeze super glue a bit on some paper and use toothpick to dap on the super glue and applied it to the kit surface)

super glue is NOT the same as cement
super glue are made for heavy duty while cement are for those plastic hobby

I did. Used toothpick apply on the diecast holder and then put on the wing, ended up like that.

Owh well. This is even harder than putting model ship/gundam kits together lol! More challenge though parts are bigger. I'll try fixing it with acrylic later. tongue.gif

Proper ABS/PVC glue is best. Can get from decent hardware stores. Ace has, it's called the Plumber's & Marine Adhesive/Sealant. Says clearly that is bonds ABS on the front.

Also not too happy with the joint between the upper and lower front wing struts - there is a visible line/gap cos the joint isn't flush sad.gif

I try to work out the cost and let you guys know on the CF decals. But till issue 52 only they provide with the template, seems alittle too late. By right we should apply the carbon fibre decals before we start assemble..it would be more easy. i think the manufacuturer must have only this of this after they released it. or maybe some feedback by customers. Looking at those country that already issued more further than us, the suspensions rod and the wheel fairings without CF really looks not so realistic.

I dont know how much decals we need for this set..basically I would assumed at least 5 piece and it depends on sizes. But this decals I have used it before on my conversions of the chasis of hotwheels Ferrari F2007. However, I have tried and bought several CF decals and this time this is the correct twill patterns I have bought. Earliest I bought the wrong decals patterns and some are CF films which is difficult to conform on curved surface even you apply Micro Sol (Mr Softener). But this is one is easily conform to area which are curvy once you applied the decal softeners.

Templates are easy to made if you have correct tool...see this video clips on how to apply carbon fibre decals from your own template.

With CF decals, it would look nice. Either way just pray they provided it early or we buy and apply. Hope its not too costly. I want it also. Problem is looking for decal softener here in the east.

Sure why not. Do let me know the price beforehand. Need to budget a little. Trying to save up for a smaller (and less noisier) compressor for my airbrushing.

Its a very cheap solutions. Maybe for the moment i need 6 piece decals for the moment. Of course you can order less than that. But need to see the size pattern of the twills.

Does the early release of issue 7 mean there won't be an issue 8 this week? If you've seen 8, please share love.

Got call from my dad that the parcel for issue 3 - 7 has arriveth! Now, time to grab 1 and 2 again from a store nearby and do it properly this time!

Edited: Photo time!

The box it came in was badly dented. doh.gif
Dad kidnapped the cap and proclaim it his, so he got the fair share of the deal since I use his CC to pay first, so it wasn't in the picture. rclxms.gif

Before back from work, drop-by to the news stand where I got my first 2 issues and he was on holiday. doh.gif double bummer. How to proceed!

*decides to go out yumcha then* tongue.gif

Yesterday went to Popular and I have stop buying for about one week since last week, guess what? Yesterday I have to buy all 3 set from #5 until #8. When buying more than one issue will be a bit pricy.

But now, I got the nose part almost complete (at least can see it is a well done front nose), the feeling is way higher than the money you paid actually (provided your budget is still allow you doing so).

Following issue, I think is less "stick on" process and more "screw up" joint part. wink.gif

Honestly, I think Popular are selling at higher price compared to RRP. First issue is supposed to be RM9.90, they sell it at RM11.40 and second issue is RM19.90, they sell at RM21.90. I wonder how much is third issue onwards since I suscribe from Allscript third issue onwards.

When did you buy the 1st Issue at RM11.40? I bought it for RM9.90 and checked other Popular stores also RM9.90. Maybe the RM9.90 applies only for certain period after first release.

I think they increase the price because the promotional price of RM9.90 and RM19.90 is over. But cheaper than RM29.90 as per Issue 3 onwards right. smile.gif

Hence why I decided to get from my usual news stand, sadly, no stock. And he's the only one who sell it at the RRP. Rest jack the price up.

Yes you can order from 3rd issue till 9th issue. It depends on them whether to sent to you in one go or by batches. You can call them for more clarification though. nod.gif

Should be can la if they want to make extra money. Hehe.. But if priced at RM29.90 for additional binder, the price kinda steep. should be selling at RM9.90 or something. sweat.gif

I was miss out the issue 10 last week and thinking I would able to get it yesterday (Sunday) at MPH. Only upon asking, at MPH, if you miss out the pass week release, then you will not able to find the older issue at their book shelf. As based on the personnel there, once the latest issue receive, they will keep the old issue back to the store and ready to return back to the supplier.

But if you still want, you need to ask them if the old issue still in the store (back room) and they will happy to get it for you. wink.gif So, I manage to get both issue 10 and 11 from MPH last Sunday. Lucky lucky.

Different with Popular, regardless if old or new issue, all will be at the book shelf until they sold out.
