Me thinks a prime lens would be hard to get group photo for the annual dinner.. unless you stand quite far away..

For the cycling event~ I fear 50mm might not have enough reach to take just a single cyclist..

then again, i'm an amateur.. so I might be wrong.. XD hehe~

p/s: i own a D5100 too. smile.gif

Kind of agreed.

Thats why im thinking of getting a new lens, but what lens i should get that give me the best value. Budget can up if necessary.

Actually if it was me, I would have rejected it immediately... the warranty card looks so different from my other Nikon products.

^ I dun have tele lens yet. My friend previously recommended Tamron SP 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di VC USD.. It's a somewhat budget lens i think.. are you looking for all rounder zoom? 18-200 range would be quite sweet i think..

p/s: i assumed you already have a standard kit lens. that's why i just now thought of tele for better reach..

I tried the 70-300 VC, its pretty good actually. Focusing isn't that slow and VC works pretty well. Image quality is alright for a third party, not sure how does it compare to the Nikkor.

My kit 18-55 sold aldy, only play with 50mm for street, but need to help cover some events, so thinking of getting a good lens.

Prefer Nikon lens, 18-200 seems nice, but any other options? Not neccesary all rounder, just a lens that good enough to cover

- Annual dinner at some hotel's ballroom.
- an cycling event like the coming OCBC Cycle Malaysia

^ personally I would prefer 18-200 + 50mm cuz you can cover most range and also have a nice 50mm for portrait.. smile.gif

Tamron don't have 17-55 range, they only have 17-50. When 17-55 is mentioned, its usually Nikkor (or Canon tongue.gif)

Between RM3.2K ~ RM3.8K depending on the condition, years of usage and if warranty still available.
