Wow thats simple. Should i reboot? Or it will obtain an address right away? No other steps sir?

No need to reboot. You should see your prefix already after applying the changes in /ipv6 address.

If not check /ipv6 nd. This is mine:
CODE
0  * interface=bridge-local ra-interval=3m20s-10m ra-delay=3s mtu=1480 reachable-time=unspecified retransmit-interval=unspecified ra-lifetime=30m hop-limit=unspecified advertise-mac-address=yes advertise-dns=yes managed-address-configuration=no other-configuration=no

I might have missed something but I think that's about it. It's been awhile since I last used ipv6. I normally have it disabled.

Oooh, CCR, respect, mate. notworthy.gif

Thank you bro, ccr doesnt make me any better. Just very impressed by what routeros can do. I believe lower tier mikrotik can do exactly what ccr can do right. Anyway, i will get back to u once im back home later. So far im enjoying quite a few new stuff from the router. Anyone out here are using any isp that can at least shine their router capability? Say 100mbps and up? Im sure the sifus here are all humble and try not to brag. It will be great if anyone can share their setup and speed they are getting.

2 days ago i subbed to expressvpn to connect to mikrotik l2tp client. Got it connected easy. I am able to access netflix through their server in LA, i am having mixed feelings with the speed though. Getting around 9-10mbps down through the l2tp. So i went ahead connect the exact same server through l2tp on my mac and what i saw was bittersweet. It hit 25mbps easily and climb up to 44mbps almost saturating my unifi line. I am running 9core ccr, but i cant hit more than 15mbps through it. Need some advice from sifus here please.

Just shooting in the dark here, not much exp with VPNs but what are your MRU & MTU values? It could be fragmentation. Any recommended values from ExpressVPN. I've believe RouterOS is only capable of running 1 tunnel on 1 core. Even then it shouldn't be as slow as 15mbps.

Yes u are right sir. 15 is way too slow. I did lower mtu to 1270 last night i finally break 20mbps. Turns out i can only reach up to 40-44mbps only using openvpn thru udp. Which only can be done on my mac/pc. We all know mikrotik doesnt support that(sad). Dont know why l2tp is slower, i retried l2tp thru mac client and i can never go higher than 20mbps. So it was not the mikrotik problem(at least not l2tp). Anyway, i am wishing for openvpn udp full support in ros 7. Thank you bro @soonwai for yr help. Mikrotik forum is surprisingly not as supportive as i thought it would, thanx again lowyat. Cheers.

OpenVPN UDP is implemented in RouterOS v7, which is currently in private alpha testing, we are part of the testers, the public is going to have it soon!

Have you tried keeping MTU at default and lowering MRU?

So i was informed by my vpn provider that mtu for l2tp is 1400. So should i keep mtu at 1400 and lower mru from there? That i could give a try.

How do you get it bricked? Updating firmware? or running metarouter crap? Don't write to the nand too much it will die eventually. The only mikrotik that I had problem is due to bad nand chip that is unfortunately had bad block causing problem with routerboot & the dumb f**k distributor had zero knowledge of routerboot & refuse to replace it even though it was within warranty. Mikrotik support can't even help me & simply ask me (they only replied to me couple months later) to continue use older routerboot that is smaller in size.

Firmware was upgraded few months ago. Was running good till yesterday. It just died like that, no symptoms, nothing. Not resettable with the RES button and jumper reset. It just beep once and nothing happens. Manually configured IP in Win 10 show unidentified network, netinstall not detecting either. bye.gif

Since you are mentioning about nand writes, I guess log file is the culprit then, because I have few scheduled scripts running to check if any of the WAN is down, do routes have to be changed, and to power reset the USB since it always hung after few hours session. I am running few WANs, Streamyx, USB modem, mobile hotspot.

Try use a different power adapter. Sometimes failing power adapter can cause booting process to stall or boot loops. Try trigger it to boot to network by holding reset while powering up. Also make sure the pc firewall not interfere with netinstall. You may have to use the first port for net boot if not mistaken.

Tried every f'king solutions I could found on google dy. bangwall.gif
Adapter changed, various of reset pattern, press, no press, 5 seconds, 30 seconds, press & release, 30/30/30, yada yada. I think almost hundred times since yesterday. Tried port 1 to 5 all to no avail.

But it is very ridiculous if just died like 1000 lines of log per 24 hours. 1000 is not really that much I presume?
If their nand is so weak, they should have either throw in a sd card slot or make log files write directly to pc drive then. Or just pure bad luck it died on me, as lot of users here able to let mikrotik handles hundred to thousand of connection without dying.

I don't know should I get another RB951. Dilemma.

You turned on logging to disk (in this case your internal nand flash)? It is not about the number of lines but frequency of the same block rewritten. The nand writes on these embedded devices usually don't have wear levelling on it and require wear levelling on the software level (such as jffs filesystem) on user writetable partition. I don't know if routeros used any flash optimised file system to handle wear leveling for internal flash storage. You should use external USB storage if you have frequent writes to storage.

Anyway net boot procedure for mikrotik is very specific not the usual generic reset sequence nonsense usually mentioned in ddwrt/openwrt. The following site explains it pretty detailed each https://tushev.org/articles/blog/16/how-to-...51g-2hnd-router

My RB951G already reach of total of 3million writes and its already 2 years old. My scrips update every 24 hours (for ip blacklist). Its quite sad when newer model has smaller nand flash size (16 vs 64/128mb)

My oldest RB951G is 3.5y but only 380K writes. As long as the write is not on the same block too frequently, it is fine. RB951G is using slc nand. Newer model use spi flash instead of slc nand flash. Older model also may have small spi flash for some critical stuffs. Apparently routeros does have some sort of wear leveling mechanism according to mikrotik website & slc nand had 100K cycle endurance.

shengz My home's RB2011UAS is almost 4yrs old (bought Apr 2013), 800k writes, still OK. At one time I had it logging to a syslog server. A few months ago I set it to log to a USB thumbdrive. Yeah, I was worried about the nand also.

I have deployed about 50 RBs in various roles and except for 2 PSUs, none have died yet.

Fingers crossed.

Good news here, it is alive and kicking now! I re-check the bad block, it is only 1%, so looks great. Why it went haywire and soft bricked, no idea, since everything were setup, left there and nobody touches it anyway.

Here is what I did for those who have hard time with netinstall. We were lucky to have Google in this era.

If netinstall could not detect the router with these settings below,

Set static IP of 192.168.88.3, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.88.1 on PC
Run NetInstall
Select "Net Booting"
Mark "Boot Serve Enabled"
Set Client IP address to 192.168.88.1

try these instead,

Set the adapter's IP to: 10.0.0.1 and subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 (Leave rest of the settings blank)
Run netinstall.exe
In Net Booting option: Check Enable Boot Server & set client IP as: 10.0.0.2

Credit goes to the teachers. notworthy.gif

Bad news is, I bought another new RB951G as trying the same netinstall settings for 2 days yet can't get it working while my TP-Link runs Streamyx 4Mbps alone is making me very very very desperate for the previous speed. puke.gif
