I think it's quite safe to say that Astro SD channels still has the best PQ using CRT (old TV). My old 29" Philips TV is paired with a 2nd Beyond decoder.

The Astro SD channels on HDTV will be slightly pixelated and soft even if using HDMI (can't be avoided). Personally, if you don't have a bluray player and don't plan to subscribe to Beyond HD, you ought to hold on to your old CRT TV.

heheh.. my 50st50 is doing last day break in process... tonight start to enjoy watching.

by the way, I plug in my xtreamer (first version) and set the HDMI connection to 1080P output, the screen is blinking (more like multiple layers showing on screen) ... However, when I change connection to 1080i, the screen is stable and nice... any idea what is going wrong?

If you are watching a lot of channels that are availalble in HD, then you may want to consider Byond. PQ in Byond and SD channels are like heaven and earth.

The Byond decoder has some upscaling function to 720p and 1080i. Maybe you can get a little better PQ, but then source is still the same.

ok..yeah source is the most important thing and actually my neighbor has 42 inch LED tv and using old black decoder (before beyond decoder) but still newer than me and PQ quite good..so i think beyond decoder will give a little bit better than that decoder..but thanks man..really appreciate with your answer..maybe if i had more $$$ i will change to HD next time

The better choice is to buy a CRT tv. We're living in a third world country where standard definition is the norm for tv broadcast. HDTV is reserved for movies only.
