Thanks.

May i know, if i upgrade my baseband, would it wiped my phone or any chances of bootloop etc etc?

Currently using LITENING ROM V5.0 with KG5 Baseband.

I want to flash to KH3 broadband.

So, what are the steps?

I cant find the way in page1 maybe can enlightened me?

Changing modem, kernel WILL not wipe phone. Some firmware will and if it does, it is usually stated by the rom developer

I don't believe your questions. You have rooted and already flash several roms and yet asking again. You have flash Litening, so you must know how to use Odin, right ??

Download the KH3 modem or download the official KH3 firmware ( copy out the extracted modem file ) . I already said USE ODIN and just select the phone/modem tar file as PHONE in Odin. Leave others BLANK

earlier one user has already reply you - it is very safe to flash another modem on top of your modem. Personally I will advise you to stick to KG5, why you want to change to KH3 which I find is the worst modem file

On Page 7, post # 126 I posted this topic:
How do I backup my phone IMEI in case it gets missing, gets corrupted during flash process ? And how do I restore it

I got a PM responding to this, asking me :

Is this really necessary to do. What happen if I lost my iMEI and i did not do a backup ?

If you lose your IMEI means : your phone cannot detect your sim card at all, you cannot make and receive calls, you cannot have internet access. If you go to Settings/About Phone/Status/IMEI - you will see a blank ou stated UNKNOWN.
You can try to recover it by either flashing a stock official rom ( full set PDA, PHONE, CSC) or try flash just the modem file. If these failed, your only choice is to send to Service Center to rebuild your rom

The chance of losing the IMEI is very low but if you are a frequent flasher of roms, kernels, modem etc it might happen; these I called accidents. So better backup. Using the app I proposed just takes 1 SECOND. Restoring it another 1 second. Better be safe , preventive than sorry later. Since it is so easy, just do it. Accidents can happen without you knowing and no approval is needed from you to happen. When it happen, don't ask "WHY ME ?"
If you are flashing those HP, Motorola, CSL phones the chance losing your IMEI is very, very high

Yeap, i do know how to flash Rom, that is because Litening Rom will not wipe my phone.

KH3 worst? Oh, i read somewhere that its a better modem, because right now im using KH3 kernel.

How does kernel and modem affect my phone? (i couldnt find this on page1, tried using the 'search' but there's nowhere indicated 'baseband')

For e.g?

what are the difference between a KH3 modem and nimph kernel and a KG5 modem with a nimph kernel and KG5 modem with KH3 kernel.

another question.

I do understand flashing rom such as COGNITION do wipe my phone.

Say, i already customised my go launcher in my Litening Rom v5, if i flash to Cognition, does it mean all my go launcher lost? and... how do i prevent from rearranging all my apps into a folder again?

If you go and read the XDA forum on any kernel or any rom, you will see different opinions. Differences in opinions arose as each user use their phone differently. Each user is at a different place on the earth. Each user uses a different telco

So your best answer is test it yourself. Read all comments including mine with bowls of salt. Use other people opinions just as a guide. If majority is praising certain roms, kernels perhaps than you can try. If majority is condemning it, it might be wiser to stay away unless you want to convince yourself

As a standard operating procedure, I always advise users to wipe their phone if you are moving from one cook to another. It will eliminate a lot of issues. Just use Titanium Backup to backup all your apps/data. Restoring back usually takes 5-10 minutes only. I always believe in starting from a clean rom. I have been practicing this principle in all my Androids . The only thing you need to do manually is to place back your widgets on homescreen. Your set fiormat where /how you place your apps is all restore back . However if your present rom is Samsung TW and the cook rom do not have TW as option, than you will not get this restore back

Your Android OS is extremely high. You must have a lot/tons of background apps running. Mine usually hovers around 20-30% most of the time

Download this free app : SystemPanel. AT anytime, just launch it and you can see a whole list of apps working in background
You have to analyze yourself these apps and if you have no use/need of them, permanently freeze it using Titanium Backup. If those apps you need, check their settings/options/or preferences or whatever to see whether you can disable it from running in background. Some apps are by default actively refreshing data/checking updates in background

You also can use BetterBatterystats to check the list of apps running when your display is off

At such a high %, your battery usage will suffer

Batista rom is another good rom. But I am staying away because I find his theme changes is not my taste. Some users praise it like it is heaven , But than again, one man taste is another poison. I still prefer the default stock theming.

Dear members, I try install papago Navisea in my s II.
Error occurred when I copy and paste the Navisea into my phone root SD.

I tried many times the error occurred when "O_R_Side.gmv" @@

I download the files and copy the files many times. Same error on same condition.

And why it show me Trial version? Anyone can help?

Thanks a lot.
*
Use original paid version. Where did you download it. There are just too many papago x5 crack versions on the web and most are unreliable
It is now only rm99 vs rm149 previously
Check page 1 under apps for purchase link

thanks, going to buy one. well, i just wanted to use the freeze function.

anyway what are apps in RED are for?
*
Those are the original system apps of the previous backup rom. Some people want easy way and select restore all and what happen their new rom overwritten by old rom files. Stay away from these red items. I mentioned in the last thread TO ONLY do selective restoration eg restore your mail n sms contacts etc data but select daa only not apps or your new rom apps will could be overwritten

Only way is to buy it. NO discussion about crack app here please.

Added on September 5, 2011, 7:50 pm@Benny. I read earlier that you recommend KG3 modem. Is it specific for cognition rom or in general.

Added on September 5, 2011, 7:52 pm
Go buy it. You won't regret it. Its one of those must have app.
*
I have been using XXKG3 modem in all the subsequent roms I have tested and use. The main reason why I use this is because unlike the newer modem version, when phone is idle long time , even with my 3G always on 24/7, many times I have to disable 3G packet data and than enable it again to get it working. I found KH3 not so good as I have been experiencing continuous disconnection many times a day. It shows connected but the internet access just fail. So I have to disable/enable it - quite leceh n frustrating
Some user mentioned is due to Juice Defender ( maybe ) but I don't have this issue using JD on XXKG3

I do not see the need of antivirus as long your apps are from android market. Such app drain resources and is not proven effective
It just give user a good feeling of security which is false

*
Users of such apps need to be intelligent enough. They assure themselves using av apps will keep them safe. Everyone knows many such apps are trojan carriers so such users will standby their decision that av apps is a necessity
But again it is not proven av apps work on android

Common unstable issues said to be due to ahem apps
- sudden random reboots
- auto shutdown
- especially on browser sudden swing to homescreen
- freeze in midst of application especially browsing

Many new users who bought their sets from 3rd party are often given bonuses in form of free apps n link to blackmarket apps. So such users are darn happy in view of all these freebies. Than you hear them later whining about phone instability blaming everyone except themselves. My close neighbour is an excellent example. I call him Jack S. Being Chinese educated he was puzzled why I address him as such especially the word S after Jack. Now he understand

another question.

i understand that to flash rom (say cognition rom) is to dload the zip file, placed it into internal memory and install it via cwm recovery.

does this method applicable to someone who are moving from one rom to another rom or from stock rom only?

what about flashing via odin, i flashed my LRV5 via odin, why not this cognition rom via odin too?
*
Up to Rom developers how he wants it to be flash
Not our choice
some developer offer both modes of flashing
majority uses cwm as is more convenient

QUOTE(sLapshock @ Sep 6 2011, 10:26 AM)
okay thanks for the reply.

other than wipe data off, what else is needed? clear delvik? then only flash?

what does it mean by wiped, which particular folder will be deleted?
*
If you have read my tips on flashing in page 1 post #5: requote here

Another GOLDEN rule :

ALWAYS ALWAYS wipe clean cache partition and in Advanced mode - clear Dalvik cache BEFORE you flash a new rom - this will avoid reboots keep looping or phone fail to boot after flash. This also means it is in a way compulsory you install a RECOVERY first before attempting to flash a new rom. If you are lucky you could have a successful flash; if you are unlucky you will curse yourself because you want a fast way

If the rom developer says - you need " clear data/factory reset " - please DO IT . Some roms while you are installing will warn you and prompt you again to do it before selecting reboot system.

When we say wipe data - it just means all your phone data in the 2 GB partition will be completely deleted except those in the internal SD card. And to repeat again, your internal SD 16 GB is made up of : 2 GB partition ( where your apps are installed), 12 GB partition where your supporting data of apps are installed, eg games data, download data, backups etc and the last 2 GB takenup by system ( you cannot see this normally in file explorer)

Just rooted for the first time with the Supercurio method. Nearly gave myself a heart attack.

Now.....what to do next? Any suggestions?
*
now you have rooted, installed Titanium Backup:

- to backup all your apps/data
- freeze any apps you do not want to use

Install Adsfree if you are irritated with ads appearing in your apps

Install Chainfire CF4 as a clockworkmod recovery ( CWM) so you can do a FULL backup of your rom . TB backup only your apps/data
With CF4 installed you can test flash roms that uses CWM

If all these terms sound greek to you, just go read page 1 post #5 to understand better

Uncle Benny, what Kernel are you using now ?
From XDA benchmark Speed Frey 2.2.0 and Speed mod T27 have the best batetry life..
*
I am on Cognition 1.5.1, modem XXKG3 and ragemod T30 kernel
I have said yesterday, do not believe fully what other users say, including me. Example just to quote SpeedFrey - some users praises his kernel giving him full 100 marks while some users says is the worst kernel draining battery like water ; same thing for speedmod. Example ragemod, yesterday one user here say ragemod drains his battery very bad but I say is excellent - what drain ?? Beautiful and best battery life for me
SO, you test yourself and decide
