For me, one of the reasons to try out MIUI is to get rid of samsung stuff. Galnet idea to port back Samsumg apk (only some of them work anyway) on cm framework idea is a strange concept for me. i woulf think if one want samsumg apk better stay on with other ROM.
*
No need to use MIUI if you do not want Samsung's stuffs. As the MIUI solution is still beta, an unfinished project

I'd recommend you to try these 2 roms if you do not want Samsung's bloatware. I highly recommend it: My choice Cognition 1.5.1
Speedmod Vanilla 0.3
Cognition 1.5.1

*
What is the tar file name; list it here and I can tell you whether is the correct one to use
Go read page 1 post #5 I explain how the firmware files are being developed : 2 types - a breakdown into 4 parts or just a one compilation in 1 tar file

Trying out Touch X-treme Rom and he recommended this app to calibrate batt.

Many users I have read is using this app here in this thread. I have tested itb too - is very easy. to use. It is actually replacing the procedure to boot to recovery and clear battery stats

Uncle Benny, I have tried both MIUI and I prefer bmarko with rsome mods.

I think I need to wipe data to go back to Cognition.. What are the strengths of Cognition + Speedmod Vanila?
*
Cognition : Stable with virtually no bugs; good battery life - a highly dependable rom. I just restore all my apps/data using TB onto Cognition - no problems, no force closures. On Speedmod there were a few FC, so it loses out here.
Both have option to install back Samsung apps if you need it. What I did, instead of flashing the zip - I extract it and transfer those apk file I need over to /system/apps folder

My tar file name is GT-I9100_TGY_I9100ZSKF1_I9100OZSKE7_I9100XXKE4.
Try to read so many times at that post, but still not to understand tongue.gif .
*
So this tar file is a compiled version of the phone/pda/csc - it is a all-in-one. Just select this tar file and put it as PDA in ODIN. Leave the others blank and do not select repartition

One more question, how should i charge the battery? How often should i do a complete recharge of the s2? I read the article in the faq already, it didnt say how often should i do it. I assume that if lets say my battery is at 40% i can charge it to 100% right? And do this on a regular basis? Like sometimes 50 or 70 or 60 to 100%
*
Page 1 post#3 q16 if you have read the link to the website batteryuniversity, you would have concluded
- charge as many times as you like
- charge whenever you feel like charging it
Discard away all the outdated theories of nicad battery
The article explains why you should not charge it to full 100%

i wonder if they reli take some time look at first page before asking these type of questions. or mayb their uncle google is blocked by their firewall(either their comp's firewall or their brain's doh.gif)

for the difference between baseband n kernel, refer back to page 1 FAQ. uncle banny wrote there decades ago, n i believe that u edi in this thread more than 3 versions. dun slack off n pretend u r new

for the nymph and speedmod kernel, get it from xda forum la, search urself from here will u?  doh.gif  doh.gif XDA I9100 original development

Cough, cough blood.......now avoiding vomitting blood
For a user who has went through several rounds of flashing, such questions just show
- doing stuff without even trying to understand
- wanting everytime quick answer. Obviously every thing he ask is in the main xda android thread, yet he still ask exact link. This is not first time, many times already. Goes to show no googling by himself or just kk to get the right one. I was utterly floored down when he ask for the links. I would have thought by now he show know where to search in xda
- obvious he did not or he just skim n rush thro my post #5, with the questions being asked
I have previously quoted some guys just wants the spoon fed right to mouth macam bayi

anyone of you having rotating problem when receiving a call or dialing??mine will auto rotate i have to switch off auto rotation to get rid of it,by the way i am using batista rom 3.7.2??any suggestion guys?)=
*
The phone screen is meant to auto rotate by default when you move it. You should worry if it doesnt. You can always disable it at settings if you find it disturbing. I only use phone in portrait mode except watching videos and i disabled it

Added on September 5, 2011, 9:15 amI have concluded that as of now if you only want to flash one rom, the best is cognition 1.5.1. Change modem to xxkg3 and kernel to ragemod
If you like beautiful themes this will not give you but there are some mods being done for this rom, flash this separately
Anyway this is just a quick answer to those who always ask me which is best rom to use
I could be seriously wrong as your needs are different from me

Looks exactly like spiderfoot offer in ebay as is only one i know which has a curve backing. Buy direct only us$10. Just compare to mugen us$100 for same power. The price difference alone will tell you the differences expected in quality and lifespan
Buy cheap, do not expect "rolls royce" quality n performance

but i do still need to do a complete recharge right? to recalibrate battery. i did some googling abt how to charge the batt for the first time, they said i should finish off the remaining power left in the batt, then recharge it for like 8 hours? btw, i do know that lithium batteries dont suffer the 'memory' effect
*
In theory if you want to calibrate, charge to 100% and use drain it till near empty.
In practice why bother do it, as will these give you many extra hours - no. You are lucky if you can get just an extra hour on it
Also why so much trouble to do it unless you are a battery fanatic and wish to analyze usage every hour on every app
The 8 hours story is another legacy of nicad battery
I would think having a spare battery is easiest solution. I have better stuffs to do than to worry about n tinker with just stuffs, that is just me
Reminds of some users who goes to great extent to control and even advise to shut down this or that, install this app or that app etc etc. Yes we can practice some good guidelines to improve battery life but do not be too extreme. I view such users buying a great smartphone endup limiting its usage as a dumb phone just cos of battery life. Get a spare battery n solve these headaches.

haha plenty of apps from the market...even games already eat up a lot of memory...crapz...so any solutions?
*
Install rom that allow you to install apps directly on external microsd card. I know cognition has this option, i belive those based on cyanogen mod too. You can also try force move your apps n data - might not work on all apps ( dependent on whether your rom has this support). Do this from settings/applications/manage applications or try use those apps2sd apps, plenty in market n all free. But some might not work as cater initially for froyo
If you are installing gameloft which takes up a lot of space, google for answer as plenty solutions teach you how to move it to external sd card
Lastly if you wish to use phone mainly for gaming, even 64gb also will not be enough. Gaming meant for few games not many of it. One user pm me he has 30 games on his phone n ask me same question. I told him to sell off his phone n buy those gaming gadgets instead

Install the free app bluetooth file transfer. Launch it than only do the transfers, helps a lot. I have no issues even tranfering my movies up to 2.5gb

this bayi thingy... sure its Malay for pig? and not some derogatory term referring to other race? the second one, i know. first one... first time hearing.

even utusan malaysia uses the word bayi to mean baby:

My innocent comment on " macam bayi" has exploded to so many posts. Simply in Bahasa Malaysia bayi means baby. Other references to other interpretations as stated I am completely unaware and also first time hearing about it. Anyway, should stop talking about this. I just mean BABY, which is still a correct official translation to BAYI in Bahasa Malaysia

I recieved this PM and my reply to him based on Darky/Chainfire threads. Have posted it in FAQ on roms part2. This was discussed before several threads back. Might be useful for new users to know

I am confused about the JIG - does it really hide all my reflashing records and Samsung Service Center cannot detect the flashing done ?

Answer: The JIG just resets your flash counter and remove the yellow triangle during first bootup
What does this counter do exactly?

It's very simple: it counts the number of times you flash a custom ROM or kernel on your SGS II, so the guys over at Samsung know of it when you return the phone to them for any kind of problem you may have (this is done so they can say whether you've voided your warranty or not). Even using Odin to get back to stock won't help you and will let the counter go up by one
The good news is that the counter can be reset by using one of those jigs we all know very well

No, unfortunately Samsung has very clear in mind what it's doing.
It seems there is a second counter, which counts the number of times the custom flash counter has been reset, and the bad news is that its position/folder has not been discovered yet.

So, it seems all the future SGS II owners and flash addicts over here will have a hard time returning their SGS II to Samsung after having flashed something... I hope someone over at XDA will get everything sorted out (Chainfire is already working on it).
Speaking about XDA, here's the source of this article: XDA-SGS II flash counter.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread...ghlight=counter

As I have said many times before, resetting your flash records, installing back your stock roms/kernels to claim warranty is just to make yourself happy and confident when you submit in a warranty claim. The Samsung Tech if he wishes can pursue to void your warranty claims by just accessing these hidden files/logs. I have always being successful in claiming rooted/flash cook rom sets as I always believe in honesty. Why try to hide. , and don't bluff your way thro. Tell the truth and do not be surprised you get rewarded by the FOC services rendered

GINGERBREAK cannot work on SGS II retail sets. It works only on the initial proto sets. Once release to market, Samsung has lock it

Refer page 1 post #5, I have listed the options for rooting. Just choose the one you need among the various scenarios. You need not refer anyplace anymore. I have done the hard work and give you the solution in page 1 post#5

I can slightly understand the components.
But not sure what does it have to do with the phone. Like why do i need to customize? Hmm..
*
NO need to root/flash/custom roms if you are happy with stock
Do these stuffs only if you wish to have features beyond stock rom, example
- ability to have a full rom backup and a full restore with all your data/apps in case your phone crashed
- changing themes and effects on the user interface
- overclocking or undervolting to improve performance and better battery life respectively
- needs a leaner rom as you find the Samsung apps are unnecessary and is bloatware

Hi benny, thanks for answering my questions. But could you explain the terms in bold. Thanks wink.gif
I have read page1 before, but I just couldn't understand those technical terms!! =.="
What's the point of reading if you don't even understand.

Added on September 5, 2011, 2:43 pm

Thanks. So I think I'll need to get the phone first, then I'll get a better understanding wink.gif
*
Overclocking is making your phone to operate faster above its clockspeed 1.2 Ghz to 1.4 or even 1.6 Ghz
Undervolting is to reduce the power usage for each level of clockspeed, eg from 1450mV to 1300mV for , say clockspeed 1200 Ghz ; theoretically this will improve battery consumption
Bloatware is apps that Samsung has provided which many of us don't use at all. There are many of such apps in the phone. We need root to freeze these apps as if not these apps will continually popup in background, some of which could be taking up resources

That is the beauty of Android phone - you have the freedom to decide what you want or don't want, what you want to change, what you want to disable, how to change themes and UI customization to suit to taste etc. the limit is your imagination. Some of these changes might need root, flash specific mod files, change roms , etc ; some can be done even on stock roms

Don't get influence by all the talk of roms, flash, mods, root here . Just enjoy your phone first in its stock condition. Many things can be solve without resorting to such mods
