I sketch this artwork around 2 weeks ago after I dream about it. I am not joking , I really dream about an artwork.
then most of the tracing and coloring was done last weekend. so, i say it is probably around 2 to 3 days.

yes, I am really colorblind, traffic light green i see as white, some green color on crayon i see as human skin color. blue , purple is very similar to me... etc

some little noob thing i share for someone in fb... actually she draw a lion with "long" facial hair... it looks like a long fur dog instead of lion... i share here just show the difference of the stroke haha... not really good example but should be sufficient enough for differences.

sometimes when you draw something, try take your work far far away and see it again. (zoom out)
then you will realized something not right because sometimes we draw things we close up too much when doing some detail.

your david eyes is not right.  whistling.gif  unsure.gif

This one hor...I realize that if I see through my phone lens (our awesome egg brows.gif) I always can spot a lot of difference. I dunno why >.< Maybe my eyes not sensitive enough? hmm.gif

QUOTE(inachi @ May 26 2012, 09:03 PM)
OH- i could say compare to last time, ur strokes is more daring already..but it can be even better..realised u are afraid for being TOO DARK in ur shading..but thats the only thing that make ur value correct and whole drawing will look more 3D.

without seeing reference, the biggest problem is ur beckham eyes is definitely out of proportion..and the chin width..its too broad for his face.

fixed it and post it here again la =)) hehe good luck bro
*
I'll try to improve on the strokes. I'm starting to like these strokes ady, initially I prefer smooth strokes, like blending them with the blending stump, but I think this technique ain't bad at all biggrin.gif

QUOTE(acefreakz @ May 27 2012, 07:46 PM)
the eyes are not proportional xD the shading need more work. Overall is ok just that the eyes =P just my 5 cents, cheers!

QUOTE(inachi @ May 27 2012, 08:22 PM)
i don have the reference so i just anyhow pick a reference and show u usually what i did before i start to draw.

first just draw roughly the head shape and face direction..then get the position and size of the face features..just draw them in box will do.

then roughly study the light source and get the placement of shadow and highlights..(red for shadow, orange for highlight)..lets say the right part is 30%..then ask urself how much difference is no2 no3 no4 and so on..it will definitely something like no2 60%, no3 70% no4 85% something like that..then when u think its fine, for the highlight..most of the time it will be a strong light on the cheekbone and nose.

after that, only start with ur portrait and shade according to what you've studied from the reference just now. =) hope its not too long-winded..

just sharing what i did last time. =)) cheeersss.
*
The reference, I'll upload it soon. Actually for the eyes, from what I see, I think the eyes are like that, because that real dark shading there is also present in the reference. I'm quite busy at the moment, I just came back from KL actually, had an interview there (I had to skip todays figure studies class T_T), so I have to catch back up >.<

Okay thanks for the sharing thumbup.gif
Actually I have this problem in drawing the straight lines like you said. Even my lecturer also ask to use straight lines first to get the overall structure of the face. But I keep doing curves!! mad.gif

About the highlight, do I actually preserve that area from the beginning itself? Or also shade it all, then in the end use the eraser to lighten it up?

exactly. sumtimes i draw till half then i take a photo and i will spot a big difference..or either u can reflect in the mirror. also another way to spot ur mistake =)
hehe. its up to individual i should say..depends on ur drawing technique. some people they really confirm on the tone and completely use strokes to show it directly..but for me, that part i will shade at least 20%..then i will use putty eraser to lighten up again. lolll
