Heh, I uploaded an old tutorial about how to construct a manga/comic-style face. It's kind of old, but I'm told that it's still very useful, so I'm just sharing it here.

I used a very simple formula of lines and shapes that allows you to create proportionate faces, because when I made this tutorial it was in response to a friend asking me how to make a manga face that is stylized, but still has "good" or "semi-real" proportion smile.gif

(Image under spoiler because it's a literally "long" tutorial).

'how to draw animu faces' aren't exactly the best things for beginners.
So very true.

An actual beginner REALLY should learn about shapes like spheres and cubes first.

Not a "working" artist, LOL. I'm just a clerk. biggrin.gif The art is something of an obsessive hobby, haha

I'm tempted to join in the artbook project, but I don't know if my style would look too out of place ^^;

anyway, a bit more sharing, this is a screencap of some fanart I'd been working on (Image under spoiler for size):

It's a pretty good game. Thin on the story, although thicker than most shooter games. The gameplay is very fun, very polished, and even if you're not a hardcore shooter fan it's still nice to, because some of the abilities in the game are "auto-target" smile.gif especially classes like the Adept and Engineer classes, which play more like "mages" than "soldiers" biggrin.gif

Nice.

Proportion is off, however.

On the average human body:

1) length from highest point of shoulder to lowest point of elbow joint = length from centre of collarbone to the waistline (thinnest part of torso)

2) length from bottom part of the knee joint (i.e. right below the lower bony knob of the kneecap) to the bottom of the feet (i.e. soles) = quarter of the overall height

3) Length from the pubic bone (about a few inches above the groin) to the bottom of the knee = quarter of overall height [therefore it should be same length as (2)]

You can see from here:

Probably. The background's going to be a "deep space" background. Need to finish that before I work more on the character.

@ Adam

Getting paid, yes, for someone who'd seen my work and wanted me to paint her character for her.

@ Agito:

LOL she isn't meant to look "cute" or "sweet", or even beautiful. She's a soldier-type character who's in her late twenties (almost thirty) and who has been in a lot of wars. The client wanted a raw, unkempt kind of good looks and not polished beauty.

LOL Agito, I imagine sci-fi setting type soldiers who fight most of the time in full body armour (complete with helmet) don't REALLY need to keep their hair short.

No, no, you're right, it is indeed slightly smaller than it should be. It's already corrected by the current stage. smile.gif

More art, this is a speedpaint:

[Wacom Intuos4 user, therefore has bragging rights] tongue.gif

More seriously, though, it's worth the money if you can afford it. But you don't NEED a Wacom; brands like Apitek, Digipro and Genius also make affordable and pretty good quality tablets.

Wacom just looks more "sleek", and has some bells and whistles (i.e. extra features) that help speed up time and allow for more "delicate" work smile.gif

I'm interested to see the "in-progress" images for that. I wonder how you painted that based from this photo:

No real way around plain ol' hard work if you want to get all those details in.

Although I must ask, are you painting them in strand by strand or something? blink.gif
