Just wanna ask, I've noticed my PS2 seem to have problems loading games. I'm currently playing Star Ocean III and sometimes I need to reset 2-3 times for it to load (either shows black screen or the red screen with message- Please insert DVD game). It occurs randomly, but I'm worried if the laser's wearing off. Bought it late December 2004, but the previous owner kept watching DVD movies with the PS2 for 4 months or so..and I heard it's not advisable to watch movies with the PS2 right?
What is the price range to change a new laser? Not a heavy PS2 user, only play about 3 times a week, max 3 hours per play. Any advice would be much appreciated |

For older models 3000 to 5000 series cost ~ RM 300 and for the slim series around ~ RM 150...the lens for the older series though are refurbished/recon unit while for the slim series mostly are brand new. What is the price range to change a new laser? Whoa, for older models it'll cost RM300 and they aren't even new? Mine's 50006 I think..I bought my PS2 for RM600, and if the laser's gonna cost half I might as well get another set?

Send my PS2 50006 for repair to tot31 for around RM 300 and sold it for RM 500...and bought myself a slim PS2. |

Then again isn't the slim PS2 not as good as the fat one? That's what I heard from a few people, such as the duration you can play etc. |

it is better to reset then only eject

QUOTE(shinchan^^ @ Mar 16 2006, 08:53 AM) it is better to reset then only eject no the the best way is just to eject. this is because the motor inside has a knid of a break, same with xbox or dreamcase, heck, even ps1's method was like that.because if the disc is running (playing background music/loading stuff) and u go eject it just eject the game, no problem. how i know? cause i OPENED and REPAIRED my ps2, not running to the shop when its broken. |

i also has this problem........i think the best way is press reset then eject the disc....if want to change games just press reset, take off ur current game the put in the new game...the new game will auto play....or u can play the game from the browser..

The person of the shop told me like this (i using ps2 slim)
EJECT => INSERT NEW DISC => RESET When i eject, the laser head will automatic go to the upper side. But I have few time, that the laser doesnt go to upper side, it just stand at the center, and then my ps2 look like disabled (cannot read any dics), so I just use my finger to push it to the upper side, and its works again, I dont know this method will spoil the ps2 or not? But my ps2 still working fine... |
