I've got a refurbished NTSC/UC PS2 70012 and it has an MI 1.38 modchip which i believed is clone. It cant play some of the "ahem" dvd's which does not correspond to Region 1...for i belived that some of those are not region free.

Hmmmz.. mabbe coz yers different batch?.. since most of us using 70006 / NTSC/J.

Coz i tried all my DVDs from original to backups, no probs (fyi im using 70006 NTSC/J with M.I clone).

Btw, abt the diodfix chip, i seen that when first i bought my PStwo, first its one of earlier batch. I remember the shopdude showing me 2 type of chips.. one its the modchip and the other i think he said supposed to limit voltage, isnt that layman-terms of diodfix chip?..

I will be purchasing a 3-4 year old fat PS2 from a forumer, he says that it is playing CDs, DVD movies and DVD games fine.

Problem here is, he doesn't know what mod chip it uses and I don't wanna end up with a troublesome machine.

Does anyone have any poitners for me on what to check for the PS2?

If he sells for RM 200..by all means get it coz 4 years is lot long years for PS2 lens and if those lens dies after u bought, you've to forked out nearly RM 300 to have it replaced.

how he boots backup copy of the games? any special methods?

Backup copy? I am ssuimg you are saying all the 'ahem' games. Accordingto him, just put CD in then can play.

So any pointers or things I should keep an eye when inspecting the machine?

If for RM 200..just do a quick grab...if more asked nicely to test it out. Hook it up to the tv, test the cd tray, test the av out, the memory card and the controller port wether those still working or not. The utmost important thing is to test some game especially DVD 9 base game like GT4 or God Of War..does it hang or does the drive makes awful sound that could probably spells for a dying lens. Remember lens are the most problematic occurance happened on the PS2 and those fat PS2 lens cost RM 300 to replace.

Actually he's asking for like RM360, is it worth it? I am unfamiliar with the PS2 pricing but it seems reasonable though, however do advise if it is not.

Alright, so the most important thing is to test out the games especially the new ones. Ok got that!

scph-50x always spoil the LA chip is a common problem. if worst. it might spoil the lens as well.

ya rm300 for lens...6 years my ps2 lens still readable.. touch wood

thats the thing.

if u r playing a dvd+r media, make sure its a high quality media like verbatim.

thats why its an advantage to play using hdloader. save the lense.

Yea, but i only do that when theres a game 'worthy' enough to have great replayability... unlike some games.. juz play once... its more than enough.. lol.. so not worth to burn into a good quality dvd-disc like mitsubishi, verbatim, ricoh and etc.

my fren told me that PS2 (bulky version) can add hard disk into expansion bay + ethernet card, to make it fast loading & bigger memory.

my ps2 spoil a few weeks ago, and i took it to repaired, the shop said i need to replace the "ic browser" which cost me rm120
the chip is so tiny , so expensive as for genuine parts?

what part of it spoilt?

IC Browser? is there such a thing ? I'm kinda thing is just only the modchip and the diod fix.

RM 120 is ok for any around in PJ above.

if KL slightly higher price arleady.
