QUOTE(olivur @ Oct 27 2011, 02:01 AM) lil has officially gotten bored of her wheel, she hasn't ran for about a week plus now, close to a fortnight. Psh, I'll always love Huffster Puffster, no matter how huffy he gets. I'm training him to stop huffing at me. It seems to be working. leaving the wheel out of her compound for now before letting her "re-discover" it. also, telileti you say that but you know you loves him! and have you came up with a name for dibs? ..er pinto Pinto has already been named. His name is Pinto. QUOTE(BunnyRAWR @ Oct 27 2011, 12:49 PM) I don't have a recent photo of Pinto. Heh. ![]() Photo taken about a month ago. He's very fat now. I noticed two infected quills near Pinto's butt today. I rubbed at it & the quills came out. To prevent infection, I gave him a warm water bath & applied sesame seed oil on the two holes left behind. Are there any other substances that are safe to apply on their skin to prevent infection? I'm kinda hesitant to try antiseptic cream because it may contain chemicals that aren't safe for hedgies. What's infected quills? D:
and for mealworms at PJ area, ss14's aquarium shop sells em too, there's where i got mine =D And what dog food is best for hedgies? I wanna provide more varieties to Nephthys just so she won't go bored eating the same cat food everyday D: Gonna share a picture of Nephthys' home, I keep the cage door open 24/7 so she can run the wheel and exercise anytime. Now she only poops on the wheel and in her pooping pan that i don't have to change her bedding so often anymore if you enlarge the pic you can see Nephthys sleeping near her poopee pan XD This post has been edited by Devilene: Oct 31 2011, 12:38 AM |

@ Devilene : Three (I just noticed another one) quills near his butt seems to have gotten infected. One of them is still on the process of growing & must have gotten stuck. The base of the quill, where the quill meets the skin turned red & it looked like a popped boil on its skin once the quills were removed.
If the skin condition doesn't get better by tomorrow, I'm giving him a salt water bath. |

QUOTE(gaianeo @ Nov 1 2011, 12:12 AM) hope it get well soon... The wound had a scab over it today.Added on November 1, 2011, 12:46 ami wanna ask all expert at here.. why my Flaky body got some sweet sweet and sour a bit smell?? but my peppy didnt have any smell.. does male hedgehog got smell gland that produce other smell?? Sadly, I accidentally dropped him when he curled up & the scab fell off. Grr. Gave him a salt water bath & applied more sesame seed oil on it. My female hedgie has a sickly cheap perfume smell. Huffster, my oldest male hedgie never smelled bad a month ago but he recently started smelling really bad, especially after he gets all horny. Ick. I suspect it's the smell of his musk. Pinto (the younger male) still smells okay, even after he gets horny. Maybe their musky smell is stronger as they grow older? EDIT: According to this site, hedgehog's don't have musk or scent glands. Guys - just a quick question.
If a hedge scratches does that mean guarantee got mites ? My SnP (Just got like 1 week ago) scratches occasionally. I mean not like accessive scratching - just like the normal occasional scratching - not extended scratching just normal brief ones. Is this behavior normal ? |

QUOTE(bluswhitehat @ Nov 2 2011, 10:54 AM) Guys - just a quick question. check on any fallen quills to see if the ball like follicle is still intact. that would be the first test. a second test would be to check your hog's body thoroughly. for any jumping critters. otherwise a few drops of baby / olive / almond oil should do the trick. after a shower of course if deemed fit on young hogs.If a hedge scratches does that mean guarantee got mites ?
