POORnoob.

Yesterday was following my friend's dugong Vios on highway, running 130-140 all the way from Kampar to Rawang. He told me he was running at 120 -130 only.

As it turns out, he changed his wheels to a larger size and never re-calibrate his speedo doh.gif

Go below your bumper. Open a screw cap, lift and pull out the metal lever, light bulb come out...
You should unscrew the cap (Black colour with rubber seals), another screw (White colour) will be adjusting your fog lamp height one...

Then put 6000K light bulb in brows.gif
then reverse the process...

I dunno la. Aren't you suppose to "recalibrate" the speedometer after changing tyres to different size?

nope, you just get the tyre of the correct size so that your speedometer is still the same.

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

if you're using 16", should get a tire with 225/40 or 215/45 etc~

That's the thing.

My friend's new tyres and rims are larger than the stock ones. He didn't know it would affect the speedometer.

it should not change much.... if his ori is 15" 195/50 upgraded to 17" 215/45 the speedo should be +5km/h only

FYI 195/50 on waja the speedo shows -10km/h

for waja with 17" 215/45 should be as accurate as GPS.... trust me coz im using military MTK 15hz real time GPS logger for my carpc.

I see.

He did admit that his wheels are larger than stock so definitely it'll give inaccurate readings, but I didn't ask how much larger though, just know that while he said he was reading 120 in his car, I was chasing him at 130. Mine is stock rims and tyres so I'm gonna assume my speedo is correct.

stock rims and tyre always incorrect... it's -5 to -10km/h diff.... you also cannot define the front car speed by chasing because by newtons laws the variation speed cannot be seen when you are behind the car due to co-drag efficiency unless you both at side by side.
